    I remember last year Noel Leeming opened 7:30am and Harvey Norman 8:00am, which was good for me because they both had high demand things I wanted and could go to both without worrying about the other selling out.

    This year they open at the same time so may have to prioritise deals or split up!

  • Last year the boxing day sales started on Xmas day online. I recall some even may have started on Xmas eve online. Not sure if there will be any great ones this year. The last few years have been pretty disappointing. Some stores do tend to have a small number of a certain product at a good price, just to get people into the store, but most people can miss out.

  • Most of the great deals are well before xmas(ie early november at the latest) before new stock starts coming in. The best time to pickup older SKU's TV's etc at clearance prices.

  • I need to buy the following on boxing day.

    F/freezer.
    W/machine.
    Dryer.
    Microwave.

    Electric mower
    Electric weed eater
    Ladder
    Garden hose.
    Garden tools.
    Planter pots.

    Maybe also buying:

    Oven.
    LPG cooktop.
    Dishwasher

    TV bracket
    Lounge suite.
    Coffee table
    Dining table and chairs.
    Bedroom furniture.

    LED bulbs

    Garden watering system.
    Tools.

      Also should note, sometimes easier to go Noel leeming first, give them the list of products and prices you know are on sale and order the lot through them.

        • For the whiteware, hold out till boxing day.
          Got a F&p 7.5kg washer for 599 (harvey norman),
          got a basic f&p dryer (went basic as i use like a dozen times a year if that) for $299 i think (harvey norman),
          got my twin door LG stainless f/freeze for $999 (good guys)
          all had sold out country wide by 9am

      Last time i saw this hose at bunnings it was much more than $46. you could try your luck with a price match.

    • We picked up a 7kg Simpson Front Loader from Noel Leeming last year for $399. It was an online only deal and it was posted Christmas Eve. According to this comment, they're doing the same thing this year.

      So i got the first 5 items. Washing machine and dryer from smiths city. Mwave Fridge and dyson v6 from noel leeming. Mower from mitre10. I found everyone was willing to price match heathcotes who seemed to have the best white wear deals.

      Currently looking at couches target or harvey norman maybe. Still need dishwasher would like to get a single dish drawer.

    I guess it depends on what's available online, I'm guessing that all the good deals will be limited numbers instore only. What do you reckon would be less busy, Porirua or Lower Hutt? I finish work at wellington hospital at 8am (night shift) and then will quickly handover and race around town.

    • Anyone know of any manufacturers runnings cashback/ promos that end on the 24th? (like the sony tv last year came with a PS4 and the Canon cameras that came with cashbacks until the 24th)

      Just checked, Canon are doing it again. So if someone is looking at Canon cameras or lenses be sure to buy tomorrow night, do not wait till the 25th or 26th as you wont get the cashback anymore.

  • Noel Leeming are a bit disappointing this year. I remember last year they had the S6 for $650, compared to $850 for the S7 this year. Also last year they had a $2 usb drive and a $2 phone.

    • Im dissapointed as. Really love boxing day (as you can probably tell by me spamming posts all day). But no great TV, Phone or Dyson deals.
      Im just glad I listened to the cheapies and bought the PS4 and Xbox from the Warehouse on tuesday.

        The thing is, we are immersed in the industry. We see the sales day in, day out, really. Most of these marketing staff don't know that, and probably don't care. As we grow and more people become aware of the tactics used, then either the price dynamics will change or less and less people will be shopping on Boxing Day, or both.

      • Yeah i'm saving judgement untill Monday in store. Haven't seen anything great so far. Hopefully the online sales are just to try to rip people off/make money before the in store sales.

        There is one good phone deal I noticed, not high end, but the Huawei GT3 which is basically a P9 lite in disguise for $169 at Noel Leeming. Pretty good specs for that price.

          I guess it just depends if you prefer stereo vs virtual surround.

      Not much really. Black Friday was better this year, and probably every year going forward. I can see why people get excited though, they don't see the best deals all the time like we do.

    • Yes very disappointing compared to last year, even last year had very limited deals but was better. There were much less people in the shops and was almost like a ghost town in some major retailers. Goes to show many were not inspired this year.

  • It was in the news recently, that according to sales data, Boxing Day is considered the second busiest day for sales/purchases etc. The first would be 29th January. The news article went on to say there were at least 40% more deals on 29th January. I kept thinking about it but I have no idea why……the why 29th January has the most sales? Is it end of season sales? Anyone know why?

    • So it's based on price and discounts rather than sales or profits?

    • That's quite interesting, the only kind of holiday that coincides around date is Auckland Anniversary. Which considering its a regional holiday is surprising it has the largest discounted day nationally. Then again, I guess if all the heads of major retailers are based in Auckland that could be the reason.

    • End of January is the end of the holiday season, where everyone is getting ready (and purchasing stuff) to go back to work, or back to school, uni, polytech etc. etc.

  • I doubt its chinese new year…eg for CNY 2015, it falls on 19th February, for 2016 it was 8th February while 2017 would be 28th Jan. I think they tend to travel back overseas to spend it with their families. But to be safe, I bought half of what I wanted or 'needed' this boxing day, the rest would consider buying the rest on 29th January.
