Fibre Broadband Offers 2026

My contract with Mercury ends on the 11th of February (no notice required) so looking to find the best offer.

Prefer 500/100 though keen to hear from those of you that are on 100/20 (I mostly do movie streaming with Real-Debrid, YouTube, several smart appliances, work laptop and mobile phone. Just the TV is connected via ethernet).

Curious to hear what offers people have been accepting in the new year.

Mercury retention offer:
500/100 $99 + $10 discount = $89/month (free modem)

Fast Connect:
2degrees: 500/100 $94/month + $100 credit + Orbi 6 modem = $85.66/month
2degrees: 100/20 $65 + $100 credit + Orbi 6 modem = $56.66/month
One NZ: 500/100 $86/month + $5/month for modem

Skinny
500/100 $90/month + 1 month off (=$82.50/month overall) + $10 modem delivery

Slingshot
500/100 $90/month + $5/month for modem

Try sky for 100, not sure if they still do it for 50 pm by calling for a"offer". They had good price for 500 too..

No issues with anything you have mentioned although I do not stream 4k. No issues with any YouTube or Disney high res.

    • I'm on sky 100( 50pm)
They are reselling vocus (2degrees, slingshot)

      Absolutely no problem at all.

  • Using retention team at Slingshot, I extended my 500/100 contract for another 12 months at $85/mth in November. I am using my own modem so don't need them. Try to talk to CS at Slingshot and see if they give you some better deal than $90/mth.

    • Just gave slingshot a call this morning and got my retention discount added back on after lapsing and missing a month and paying $100. They were kind enough to add an extra $15 credit for the missed month

    • Talked to Slingshot

The lady mistakenly gave me the cost for 2degrees first lol

      2degrees $89/month + $5/month for modem
      Slingshot $90/month + $5/month for modem

Told em I could sign up with 2degrees cheaper elsewhere and she started talking about bundles instead.

      • Isn't that the normal cost lol.

        • Normal deal cost, yeah. Going to hit up Sky next, $80/month for 12 months apparently.

  • Simply Broadband still showing 79.79 /month no contract. (500/100)
    BYO router.

I signed up late last year - no complaints, were quick to sort my connection issue.

    • I believe this has increased 1st of January.

At Simply Broadband, we know price rises are never welcome — they’re yuck for everyone. We work hard to keep things simple, fair, and great value for Kiwi households. But from 1 January 2026, wholesale fibre network charges across New Zealand are increasing, and that means the cost of us delivering broadband to your home will be affected.

As of January 1st 2026, Simply Broadband plans for new customers will be priced at:

      $63.59 - Fibre Essential - 100/20 Mbps

      $83.79 - Fibre Plus - 500/100 Mbps

      $99.99 - Fibre Pro - 950/450 Mbps

      • web team must be on holiday still, website showing the old price still.

  • +3

    Thanks everyone.

Signed up with Sky Broadband $80/month + free modem on 500/100 plan over 12 months.

They originally offered me $90/month and then $85/month in the same breath. I said it was on par with other offers, so bloke chopped off another $5.

    • +1

Just talked to Mercury. Looks like they don't want their modem back. So, I now have a free eero 6 router lol

    • How's your experience with mercury broadband? I heard some people with slow speed when they switched to mercury.

      • Speed good overall. Only issue has been when I do Teams meetings on my work laptop.

    • +1

Can you let us know whether Sky Broadband uses CG-NAT for new connections (as of 2026)?

    • Are you a sky customer already or is this a broadband-only? Am shopping around myself right now paying $85 no contract on Contact Energy.

      • +1

Just broadband and not a Sky customer

    • Has your plan started yet? How are you finding Sky Broadband?

      • Starts 11th Feb

      • Just got connected today. Seamless transition. No Wi-Fi strain at the moment as both my TV and computer are connected via ethernet (everything else is quite small, bar my phone).

Speed via ethernet (PC): 533/108, via Wi-Fi (iPhone 13 five meters away): 526/100

        • +1

Niiice, I also decided to go with them and transition was easy and seamless too. Only have the smaller fibre plan though as only me and no much streaming and zero video games. Working well so far!

I've just signed up to Sky's $55 a month plan. I don't have a subscription with them but just asked them if they could do that deal for me and they agreed to it if I signed up there and then.

  • Hi, I’m with Ash Net, I think this was/is the cheapest high speed connection I could find, just a little leg work but no more than normal when trying to get a deal.

    Speed: 920/500
    Price: $85
    Contract: 12 Months
    Modem: BYO or +$5/m

This deal is not advertised on there website. It shows $85 for 1st 3 months on a 12M contract. However they also offer a $50 referral credit.

When I was searching for a new ISP I was never referred but I gave them a call and said I would like to sigh up for 12M but for $85 for the full 12 Months.

Initially they said no, but when I said I wouldn’t put a referral down they agreed. I’ve also done this deal for several family members happily waiving the referral credit.

If you want my referral send me a PM I’ll be happy to help if the request a referral etc.

They run on the same settings as, One, Slingshot, Mercury etc.

    • Hey Bud. Sent you a pm while ago. Thinking of signing up for Ashnet

  • Thanks for reminding me, my plan is coming up for renewal soon. Have emailed them and here is their retention offer:

    Unlimited fiber starter plan (100/20Mbps) - $65/month

    Less $5 Loyalty Monthly discount

Your Monthly bill will be $60

Please note this is a 12-month contract and an early cancellation fee of up to $199 + any credit clawback will apply if you cancel within 12 months.

    • 2degrees btw*

    • Try sky over the phone, might be able to get it for 50pm

      • 2degrees are not budging. Final offer is $60. Sky Broadband is $55 for 12 months for the same speed.

        Anyone recommends Sky?

        • +1

No Issues works for me. I use my own router though

  • +1

I was lucky enough to sign up with vetta for $30/month for 500/100 at my mum's place.

I see Edos are doing $6 or $14.50 a week, not sure what speeds are like

  • I’ve signed up to simply broadband on the 500/100 plan no fixed contract, BYOM for $83.79 a month. No issues at all. Good speeds and reliable service.

  • Discounted Zeronet broadband for student card holders

    https://www.zeronet.co.nz/student-card-broadband/?gad_source…

  • I just went with Slingshot again for $85 per month on a 12 month contract. I considered Simply Broadband, but prices are only going up, so figure a fixed term reduces the risk of it. When Slingshot raised their prices last year, they "credited" me the difference for the rest of the term.

Would love to hear from others on if there are better options out there. I did consider switching to Skinny for one month free, but I'm not sure $85 credit is worth the hassle of switching and potential downtime and billing issues.

    • For the 500/100 plan?

I am looking at moving from Slingshot to Skinny but want a seamless transition

  • Can folks advise on how seamless changing fibre isp has been (byo modem)?

Im on Slingshot (unlimited not fixed anymore) looking to move to Skinny on a 12 month byo modem plan.

I wfh so keen to minimise disruption.

Is the old isp automatically removed when you sign up to the new isp?

    Appreciate feedback.

    • In theory, sign up, say you are moving and it should be seamlessly managed by your local fibre company to cut you over. You may need to tweak settings on a BYO router for things like vlans to work but I don't think I have ever had to do that.

In reality I've never had it go well, either they try and cut me over early so I have to pay twice, they don't tell the fibre company its a transfer so have to then go through the hassle of cancelling my existing plan or they kiven a second port.

      • Thanks for your thoughts! My concern as well which is why ive stayed with Slingshot but theyve upped their pricing by $4 a month from March 2026. Who have you moved from and to?

    • I wfh so keen to minimise disruption.

This is what I do, and I've personally never had a problem, but maybe I've just been lucky:

Always get your new ISP to manage the transfer, and ask them to explicitly confirm that they have given notice to your old ISP. You might need to do some donkey work to get this confirmed, but it is worth chasing them for that.

Usually you have to give something like 30 days notice to your old ISP. Once your new ISP says that has been done (and not before in my experience) and you have a date that the new ISP are taking over (say, 29 days out), then I would go to your old ISP and explicitly confirm that with them. This means that you create a back-stop with your old ISP by giving them notice of what has (hopefully) already been notified to them.

If you are working from home and really really don't want to be without a connection, I would ensure I had a working mobile data connection that I could hotspot onto if the old connection gets cut off, and the new one doesn't come up immediately. That way, you are covered, albeit with a crappy 4G / 5G connection.

      • Thanks Alan. This is exactly why ive just stayed with Slingshot for so long. And just pay the extra $4 per month increase. Their retention team have not made a very good deal to keep me on.

        • This is exactly why ive just stayed with Slingshot for so long. And just pay the extra $4 per month increase.

I know what you mean - $4 pm is not too much more, and the potential hassle of changing supplier is always there.

The danger is that we are like the proverbial frog in a pot of slowly boiling water. $4 now, $3 next year, $4 the year after….

Look out for 5G mobile plan deals. The one that was posted a few months back for Mighty Mobile (BYGOF) was really good. I shared the cost with another cheapies member and that basically means I pay only around $33/month. I got the Fastest plan, which gives me their fastest speed and unlimited downloads.

After a few months of waiting, I've activated the plan just now. Had to wait until my Fiber contract expires. I set it up on my new ZTE 5G router and everything works straight out of the box. All I had to do is re-configure the router to have my own preferred Wifi SSID and network settings, but other than that, it works mint.

Download speed is faster than my fiber. I was on 300/100 with Slingshot. I never had issues, got consistent speeds and to be fair, I never had issues with almost all major ISPs.

With this new 5G SIM, I'm getting 356~363Mbps download and 34~39 Mbps upload. Not bad at all. I don't upload stuff, so I don't care much about the slow upload.

I'm situated in central Auckland, not rural. Don't really have any signal interference.

For $33/month that's really good. I think from now on, I'm just going to switch to this method instead of signing contracts with ISPs for 1 year and pay like $59 or whatever (which is still almost doubled what I'm paying now).

And the cool thing is, I can even send a SMS from the router's built-in dashboard.

    • How many months do you get to activate the Mighty Mobile SIM after purchase?
Fibre was boosted to 500/100 last year.
Can you provide a link to buy the ZTE 5G router?

  • +4

Oh you're right, I thought I was still on 300/100 with Slingshot. Didn't realize they boosted the speed again. To be honest, most households don't even need anything past 100, so I'd much prefer to just pay less and stick to 100 or 300. Either way, I'm happy with $33/month for 360+Mbps.

I think you have to activate the plan within 3 months. Better check the terms the next time the deal comes up. I've had a pretty good time dealing with their support team. They got back to me quick and addressed all my questions, hence I took the gamble and paid for the yearly plan and now it's paying off. I bought it back in November and made a note to activate the plan by around this time, so that's around 3 months.

The ZTE 5G router I bought is this one, for $436 (total, including tax and shipping):
    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005009469983394.html

I wanted a router that has decent specs and at the very least is a brand that I've heard of, while also being relatively "cheap". This is the best one I found, but if you manage to find something else that's better, I'd be keen to know. I think there were some other 5G routers I found but they didn't have any brands, so I didn't trust those.

This router is alright, performs well enough, haven't noticed any issues so far. As far as the configurations go, it's quite basic. It's missing a few things like DNS configurations for DHCP, but that's alright since I can configure this on the client-side anyway with scripts.

    • +1

If anyone's interested, here's my router config. There were actually a few things I adjusted to make it run well. I'll only list the important ones:

      • Under Network -> Mobile Network, set network mode to 5G NSA. Don't use 5G SA, it'll most likely fail for you. 5G NSA is based off of 4G's infrastructure and should be more widely used and have higher compatibility. If your region supports 5G SA though, that's great and use that instead, but that didn't work for me as the router couldn't pickup a signal. You can also switch to 5G/4G and that should fallback to 4G speeds if 5G is terrible. And of course, 5G/4G/3G works too, but 3G speeds is terrible (I got about 13Mbps).

With this mode, I'm able to now get around 383Mbps download:
      https://imgur.com/a/zVdMhZO

Note that Mighty Mobile is piggybacking on One NZ's network.

      • Under Network -> Mobile Network -> APN, create a Manual profile and change the APN field to "vodafone" and PDF Type to "IPv4". Leave everything else as is. I'm not sure why I had to do this, because the Automatic radio button was able to pickup the profile as "Vodafone NZ", but when I inspected the profile, it shows the APN value as "www.vodafone.net.nz" and that didn't seem to work. Changing it to "vodafone" in the Manual profile worked. This is important, as my router wasn't picking up signals at all for any of the 5G settings, until I did this.

      • Under System -> Developer Options, change the country/region code to NZ.

Here's what the router's speed is like while I was running SpeedTest (download). It's not quite 383Mbps, but this was taken before I made changes to a few other things:
      https://imgur.com/pLqUyG3

Oh and one last thing I want to point out. With Slingshot, I'm getting around 350Mbps on SpedTest, against the same server. I think I'm not hitting a high number because my router is a bit old now (Xiaomi AX3600). It's a good router, but it just isn't going to hit a certain speed on Wifi 6. I might upgrade to a Wifi 7 router, although I doubt I'd see any benefits off it because I'm not going to hit speeds above 500 Mbps since I'm hoping to pay less and be OK with slower speeds. Some ISPs still offer 100 Mbps I believe.

Anyway, this ZTE router is pretty decent, it's able to deliver speeds at a high level, at least for the download. If Mighty Mobile can deliver higher upload speeds for their plans, that's be even better.

      • Oh and one thing to consider is getting one of those portable SIM routers (like a battery bank) for travelling. You can use it at home but also you get to use it when you travel, which is great. The only problem is that they're more pricey, but maybe worth the investment if you travel a lot.

        • Or just hotspotting if you live alone anyway. Then you also only need one phone plan.

I've recently realised that my local free (if you have the password) wifi from the community centre nextdoor just covers half my house - and luckily the wall the TV is on. It varies - but is usually good for TV and web surfing. Though the max speed I have seen is 30mbs (and I'm getting less the further away it is).

After some faffing around looking at ways to improve that signal, or a WISP router (or similar), I've actually realised that bar some now very slow large downloads I am probably ok with the current speeds.

I am going to do the above though and get a (prob 50mbs) unlimited plan for my phone and use that for downloading. And likely faf about a bit and build (or buy) a bonding server so I can tether my phone by USB when home and combine the data.

Other cheaper options that might work for orhers is also just tethering a 5g phone to a PC and using the WIFi sharing on that, or share it to a router via ethernet.

Or a router that will let you tether directly of course.

Broken screen phone will do the job.

Also makes me realise a 100mbs plan is prob plenty for most people.

          • @LupinS: Yeah, but not really worth the effort for me. When it comes to certain things, I'm happy to spend the money to get something decent. I just bought a Deco X80 router today for $190 (bargain), and about to buy 2x 5G portable routers at around $500 total, which I consider to be cheap.

If I'm getting around 500 Mbps using this Deco X80 router, why would I use hotspot on my phone? It's just $200 and I can use it for years. Anyways, I'm not living alone and I need good coverage, so having a good router that is actually designed to do routing is a no brainer to me.

      • one note: the AX3600 should easily hit upwards of 800Mbps in ideal conditions. My Wifi 7 setup pushes close to 2Gbps with Wifi-6-only devices.

    • +1

If anyone is looking to get a 5G router for cheap, they're now much more affordable as of current writing (March 2026).

Here are some good ones, most of them less than $300:

      Nokia Fastmile 5G:
      https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/marketplace/computers/other/list…

      https://www.mightyape.co.nz/mn/buy/mobile-world-inseego-wave…

      https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005010487387517.html

      https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005008220240136.html

      https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005008263935258.html

      Portable travel 5G router:

      https://www.mightyape.co.nz/mn/buy/mobile-world-inseego-mifi…
OR you can get it cheaper from Aliexpress:
      https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005010470713455.html

      https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006199769015.html

For travel routers that's slightly over $300 but still affordable, these 2 are probably one of the best value for buck, as the modem is pretty high-end:

      https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005883756620.html
      https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005009259564417.html

They both provide reverse 18W charging with 10,000mah capacity, so they serve as a battery bank in addition to the travel router function.

Also, check Trademe and FB Marketplace. I just bought a TPLink Deco X80 for $190, which at the moment is still being sold at PBTech for like $800+ and elsewhere it's at least $350+. I just did a speedtest and I'm getting like 480MBps down and 90Mbps up on my 5G SIM.

      • I've just bought the Inseego Mifi X Pro 5G M3200 and a ZTE MU5120 (Telstra branded), both refurbished and both from MobileCiti in Australia. Spent about $460 total I think. Pretty cheap considering how much these things go for brand new and how much portable 5G routers are being sold locally in NZ.

MobileCiti has their own website and also their own account on Trademe, although they seem to have poor reviews on Trademe. I was a bit concerned at first, but took the gamble and bought it from their website (found a 5% discount code somewhere and decided to use it). They provide free shipping within Australia, but about $25 NZD shipping to ship to NZ. Shipping price varies depending on your order. Since I bought 2 of these in the same order, my shipping cost was a bit higher.

They both came in very good condition, I don't see any dents or scratches at all.

On the Inseego, which on paper has worse specs than the ZTE MU5120, I was able to get 570Mbps download on a Kogan SIM card, not sure what my SIM mobile plan is to be honest, but it's not one of those data-only plans with max speed and unlimited download, at least from memory. The speed is pretty damn good already.

On the ZTE MU5120, I had to change the APN and luckily it worked and wasn't locked to Telstra's network. I got about 380Mbps download. To change the APN, you have to go to the admin web interface IP. You can't change it directly on the device itself in its touchscreen settings.

The ZTE MU5120 allows you to change the ssid name and password, whereas the Inseego doesn't. They both have their pros and cons.

ZTE has a much bigger battery size (10,000mah) and has reverse charging at 18W. The Inseego has half the battery size.

Anyway, both of these are cheap as, so I don't see how I'd ever go back to a fiber connection, considering how much performance and value I can get out of 5G routers (portable or not).

  • fwiw I am resigning with 2Degrees. Offer on the table is Unlimited Fibre 500/100 plan - $74/month (including a resigning bonus and mobile bundle discount of $25/month).

    • Had to reread that a few times. Thought you were saying that you were leaving 2degrees despite the good offer 😅

      • Had to reread that a few times. Thought you were saying that you were leaving 2degrees despite the good offer

        Me too.

I think they might be re-signing rather than resigning :-)

      • haha English is hard…probably should have put re-signing :P But yeah am staying with them just for clarity sake :D

        • +1

I do like the idea of a resigning bonus though.
Everyone will be wanting to leave! 😊

          • @bigcheese:

I do like the idea of a resigning bonus though.

Everyone will be wanting to leave!

            It's called a 'Golden Handshake'?

I was happy to accept a very significant one as a redundancy payout once many years ago :-)

            • @Alan6984: They are great if you already have another job offer 🤣

Never forget working in a pub when at uni and the offer while they refitted the place was 12 weeks unpaid and a job in the refitted pub or a redundancy payout. Took the payout, walked across the road and started at that pub the next day, the landlord already had the heads up we were all out of jobs and was expecting us.

  • 1/2 price broadband when you sign up for power/internet for 1 year at Mercury
    https://www.mercury.co.nz/-/media/project/mercury/mercury/te…

    • 1/2 price broadband when you sign up for power/internet for 1 year at Mercury

Anyone know anything about, or have any experience with, the Eero6+ router that they offer for $120?

Is it worth that? Noel Leeming have it (or something very similar) for $150, so the price looks to be okay (if it is actually the same device or thereabouts).

I need to replace our current router anyway, so I am not averse to going with one supplied by an ISP, as long as it is 'okay' for the price.

      • @Alan6984

From my quick research, I think the lineup is Eero 6, 6+ and 7.
So would say the 6+ is slightly better than the one you linked at NL.

I have also signed up for this deal, big positive is no ETC, 5 day notice period and if you choose to leave you surrender the rest of your discount. So worst case if the router or ISP isn't right for you, you've only "lost" the P&H fees. Haven't started my service yet and currently have Orbi's installed so might not even both with installing the Eero, can't comment on how good it is.

It also doesn't affect the main term of your power, so both of mine are out of contract/open term - wasn't really losing anything by giving this a go.

Bonus: you can also ask them to turn off CGNAT

        • Thanks for that.

If / when you get the Eero6+ Router, could I persuade you to plug it in (even if behind your Orbi Router - maybe just set it to get a WAN-side IP from the Orbi and create its own subnet on its LAN-side) and see what you think :-)

  • I called Slingshot and they didn't even offer me a retention. Will be moving to Skinny since it's currently the cheapest
