This is freaking fantastic. Thanks Mate!

Sounds like you can't immediately cancel, but you can disable PayPal auto payments here: https://www.paypal.com/myaccount/autopay/.

    • +3

Mine cancelled immediately leaving me with a trial period till 03/09/26.

      • +1

        I also cancelled successfully

        • +1

Me too. Cancelled through the browser, don't know if you can cancel on the app.

    • +2

Wow! I found 3 businesses set up for autopay that I had no idea about. Never charging but still active. Wouldn't have found this without the link. Thanks!

      • Same, Temu being one, which I can't understand.

  • Also cancelled successfully while leaving the free trial period in place.

  • Signed up. How does using perplexity compare to chatgpt?

    • +3

It's optimised for search, so it's best used for finding stuff online and usually tracks down more info than ChatGPT does.
I use it for questions like 'show me in a table the five most-recommended Android phones released since 2023 that are sold in NZ for under $500'.
That sort of thing would normally take a lot of time to figure out.

  • Last time after signing up with the similar deal, Perplexity canceled my subscription after a while saying there was a breach and they figured out :-(
But if it doesn't cost anything then no harm to try out again.

    • Last time after signing up with the similar deal, Perplexity canceled my subscription after a while saying there was a breach and they figured out :-(

      What did they 'figure out'?

Is this something we can avoid doing / not doing?

      • I'd guess they figured the account didn't belong to someone from the US, and the promotion was intended for US residents. This promo doesn't have that same restriction (no VPN required to sign up) - so shouldn’t have the same issues

      • Hello,
As part of a thorough investigation into suspected abuse of a promotional offer, we’ve determined that your Perplexity Pro account does not match our records for having obtained the promotion through the intended flow. We're writing to inform you that your Perplexity Pro subscription has been suspended effective immediately.
A recent audit determined that the promo code applied to your account for a complimentary period of Perplexity Pro was intended solely for customers who activated it through a specific redemption process as part of a limited partner promotion.

While we hope you've enjoyed using Perplexity's Pro features during your subscription period, our usage terms require it to be disabled. Therefore, Pro access has been turned off for your account as of today, no further charges will be made.
Under Section 10.3 (“Termination of License and Your Account”) of Perplexity’s Terms of Service, we may suspend or disable accounts that breach promotional or usage terms .
        What happens next?

Your account has automatically reverted to our free plan, available to all users.
You can upgrade to Perplexity Pro at the standard rate anytime from your Settings page.
If you believe you obtained the promo code through an authorized Samsung Galaxy Store channel, please contact [email protected] with supporting evidence such as screenshots proving eligibility and valid account information.

Thank you for your understanding and supporting our commitment to eliminate misuse. We value your interest in Perplexity and hope to continue providing you with our services.

        • Was that through the Verizon promotion?

          • @spicymeatball: That's thru the Samsung promotion, involved connecting via US VPN address to trick the Samsung App Store app into allowing you to download the Perplexity app (which is geolocked on their store) and give you 1 free year of Pro.

  • that was awesome fine OP. got it and canelled immediately and working fine. thank you

  • Perplexity is bugged for me blank screen replies

    • +1

Me too, I'm not getting any replies at all on the Android app. Anyone else having issues? EDIT: It is working on the web, Android is generating blank responses.

      • Yeah same for me works on windows pc.

I can still get the android app to read out a reply funny enough

  • It looks like not expired until 31 Dec. Should I take the risk to register later as I still got the free Gemini from the previous post?

    • +1

      Have both

I use various AI models daily. No need to have a ‘1 or the other’

Unless you’ve got a specific use case where you’re leveraging one of these pro accounts and want to maximise time, such as for your job, I can’t see why you’d not sign up for both

      • Thanks. Took your adivce. Also concern it may suddendly stop this deal.

  • Incredible deal. Thanks for sharing

I imagine within 12 months, Pro will have access to Comet which will be sick to play with

  • I previously signed up for this but my subscription was cancelled.
Now I’m trying to sign up using a different email address, but I get this message:
"You've previously subscribed to Perplexity Pro. This promotion is only valid for first-time subscribers."

Does anyone know why this is happening and if there’s a way to still get the promotion?

    • Might have something to do with browser cookies from the other email address

      • Is there anything I can do from here? I use another email address and tried it on Chrome (previously on Firefox) and still get the same message.

        • Private browser window not working?

          • @MyFriendAutism: Any idea if I’ll also need a new PayPal account? (That would be a hassle.) I’ve already tried signing up with one email linked to two PayPal accounts on Firefox, and another email with one PayPal account on Chrome.

        • +1

Went through all combinations of different browser, private browser window, new email address, and new Paypal etc. None of these worked, until

Cleared all browser caches etc. Then clear the active autopayments accounts screen in Paypal. ( https://www.paypal.com/myaccount/autopay/.)

Even a failed attempt from Perplexity to Paypal (via a previously used email etc) left an 'open' account in Paypal. So a combination of cleared browser cache (Perplexity site), and cleared Paypal autopayments, worked eventually.

  • Thanks. Worked for me and cancelled no problem

  • Wonderful thanks for sharing got it working no problem. This is what it says about choice cheapies…

ChoiceCheapies is generally considered a good platform for saving money in New Zealand, acting as a community-driven bargain hunting site where users share deals, coupons, vouchers, and special promotions daily. It is inspired by the successful Australian site OzBargain and aims to provide New Zealanders a way to collectively find and share discounts and savings opportunities. The platform is legitimate, has a secure HTTPS website, and is positively recognized for helping users save money through community engagement and aggregated deals across many product categories.

Some users report the platform effectively saved them money during tough times, although individual experiences like cashback tracking on some linked offers can vary. The site is still growing but has a solid backend and active user base, making it a practical tool for bargain hunters in New Zealand looking to save on diverse purchases.

In summary, ChoiceCheapies is a reputable, community-focused platform that is considered good for saving money, especially as it promotes collective bargain hunting tailored to New Zealanders' needs and retail environment.

What kind of summary doesn't mention @wowbigdeal, @bigcheese or, dare I even mention in a hushed voice, with reverence, @Wakrak ???

      • Thank you for the mention. Very kind of you. The site is full of a wonderful group of people that have created a fantastic network.

      • +1

Might need the Enterprise plan for that.

  • Nice, worked for me!

  • Signed up and cancelled auto-renew immediately. Thanks

  • fantastic thanks mate

  • How do people find this compared to ChatGPT? I have only been using ChatGPT so far. Thanks!

  • This seems to work ok, but it seems really slow to generate results compared to chat gpt. especially when using the chatgpt 5 results Also gives some much text info in the results. I feel like it is TLRD

    • Interesting. It's probably not the right platform for your use-cases

GPT-5 has an auto-router. Most of your general conversations would get routed to Mini or Nano

I find Perplexity Pro really good for researching and reasoning. Can have Spaces which is a nice collaborative feature. It's definitely better at sources and references

  • Perplexity is by far the worst LLM I've ever used (and that's saying something)
