Over the past few months we built a web and Android kitchen utility called Cookimg (Web App / Google Play Beta), and we are opening up our beta.
The core feature of the app is recipe discovery via images and text searches, but the hook is that it finds the most authentic, original language version and then converts the ingredients and process back to English, and according to your personal taste preferences and/or dietary requirements. There's quite a bit more to it, but the goal is to make authentic recipes more accessible, adapted to local ingredients, and catered to each user's appetite (for both cooking effort and taste).
What Cookimg Actually Does:
- Plain-English & NZ Metric Conversion (3 Modes per Dish): Look up any dish (or snap a meal at a restaurant) and Cookimg converts it into plain, no-jargon English. Every dish gives you three side-by-side tabs: Authentic (traditional method), One-Pot (cut-corner weeknight version using standard Pak'nSave/Woolworths/New World supermarket shortcuts and minimal pans), and Meal-Prep (bulk batch cooking with fridge/freezer storage timelines).
- One-Tap Dietary & Palate Conversion: Need to convert a recipe to Gluten-Free, Nut-Free, Keto, Vegetarian, or Vegan? Or dial back the salt/sugar and crank the spice? You can convert any recipe in your book or the community feed so the ingredient substitutions and cooking timings actually work together.
- Deterministic Serving Math & Pantry Shopping List: Log your fridge and pantry by taking a picture (updating as needed). Scale any recipe from 1 to 12+ servings and both the ingredient list and the inline step instructions update automatically. Hit Add Missing to Shopping List and it subtracts what is already in your cupboard and sorts what you need to buy (roughly) by supermarket aisle.
How the Deal & Pricing Work (One-Off Lifetime Pass + $0 Free Tier):
- Free Starter Tier ($0, no credit card required): Gives you a weekly allowance of dish/cupboard scans, recipe conversions, and Roll the Dice (random) dinner ideas, with full access to the Aisle Shopping List and Community Feed.
- Staged Early-Bird Lifetime Founders Pass (One-Off Payment, Zero Recurring Sub): Unlocks permanent unlimited recipe lookups, unlimited dietary/flavour conversions, and direct text search across Web and Android forever. We set up a transparent 5-stage Lifetime counter on cookimg.kitchen:
- Stage 1 (Passes 1 to 2,000): ~NZ$8.20 (US$4.99)
- Stage 2 (Passes 2,001 to 10,000): ~NZ$14.80 (US$8.99)
- Stage 3 (Passes 10,001 to 15,000): ~NZ$24.70 (US$14.99)
- Stage 4 (Passes 15,001 to 20,000): ~NZ$36.20 (US$21.99)
- Stage 5 (Passes 20,001+): ~NZ$47.70 (US$28.99)
(There is also a low monthly option if anyone prefers that, but Stage 1 Lifetime is a single one-off payment for the price of a large coffee and never renews).
