If you have a Visa card and are spending more than $NZ111 ($AU100) you can get a further $5 off, and another 5% if you have Amazon Prime.

These plugs support Matter over Wi-Fi so you can easily configure them with Home Assistant etc. There is a slightly cheaper P110 version that has power monitoring but not Matter, if that, uh, matters to you.

AI answer - Why use Matter over Wi-Fi
You should use Matter over Wi-Fi for its robust, secure, and interoperable communication on your existing network, which ensures devices work together seamlessly across different brands and platforms without relying on the internet. Unlike older proprietary protocols, Matter provides a unified standard that simplifies setup, enhances control, and offers increased reliability and responsiveness for a vast array of smart home devices.

    Reddit
    https://www.reddit.com/r/homeautomation/comments/1aej0d9/wha…
Matter is a protocol built on top of the internet protocol (IP) and thus it can be implemented wherever there is an IP network present.
Matter works over WiFi, Thread and Ethernet or any other data transmission channel that IP can be implemented on.
The advantage of Matter is to have a unified standard for how smart devices on your home network communicate. Until now each company making smart devices has implemented their own API and thus they have relied on the home automation hub manufacturers to create support for their device (or open an API).

Yes the key reason to get the Matter version if you use open systems like Home Assistant is that it doesn't rely on TP-Link's internet servers. There are some reviews on Amazon saying that energy monitoring didn't work on Matter, but this has reportedly now been fixed with a Matter 1.3 firmware update.

      • These plugs can still be connected locally to Home Assistant without matter.

  • Thank you!

  • These are great. Use it with a Tapo temperature sensor for the room heater. Climate control on the cheap.

  • I bought the exact 3 from amazon last week after seeing it on Ozbargin, they work great.

be careful what you use these for. I used one for timing my dryer and melted it in 2 days

    • Yikes! Why would that particular use melt it? Is it the trapped heat from the dryer?

      • +1

device cant handle the current. All wall plugs are 10amps so it should handle it, but it couldnt.

Replaced it with a cheap ali express 16a plug and this has held up longer and was half the price

        • Weird as the spec on the Amazon page says:

          Maximum Load: 2300W, 10A.

          • @mpc: yea its odd as the max load on the dryer i used was 2000w. I ended up returning it to Noel Leemings, they didnt try replace it or anything just gave me a refund

        • Probably the inrush current of the dryer starting. Ruins all kinds of fun when it comes to home automation 😢

          • @ABCDEFG: yea i think so. So if you want to be risky, best to get these from Noel Leemings with the current discount code lol Co-Pilot will help you compare stats to the appliance to prove a point to customer services when returning it

Run a 2kw heater off mine no issues, I have 6 of these

        • These plugs need an SDoC which cheap aliexpress ones won't have.
Could be an issue for insurance if one burns down your house

          • @fake: not too concerned about that. The relays fry on them before anything too crazy happens, the tp link one which did have the SDoC ended up the worse. I brought this to replace a Sonoff one which lasted 3 years before the relay died

        • I got a couple of the cheap 16A plugs from Aliexpress too, and when I used one with a 2kW fan heater, it sometimes tripped the electricity. Are yours working well?

          • @doubledippps: no issues with my ones. I'm using it on the same dryer that killed my tapo one

I've been using p110 and p110m for years, and works great.

  • Have been using couple of P110 for few years now. Linked with HA and works great.

2 of them did die. Apparently there is a common issue with relay being stop working. Bought from NL and got replacement within warranty without any questions. So I believe it's quite common.

Other than that they are really good

      🤣

      • Sure funny, but it really works otherwise. The new replacements have been good for more than 18months, so I believe the design might have been updated/fixed for that issue.

Looks like it is 4 for $60 at Costco right now

    • Do you know exact model? P110 or P110M?

      • Neither. At least when I bought some from Costco a month or two ago, the model was P100.

        • Ahh, so no PM and I had those failed in past. Mentioned above.

    • it's the base model i believe. not P110 or with matter.

  • These are great to reduce standby drain from my TV and appliances, have them all at the wall and automate them to turn off at midnight (or your desired time), basically a remote.

    • +1

Yep considering price of the device and standby current of the tv we will break even with power bill savings in… in 10 years?

There's a setting in tv to turn off instead of sleep. Yes cold start takes longer. But at least android tv os isn't running and that should help with standby current. For free.

      • i was thinking 5 years to break even per unit, i have all my appliances connected to as less outlets as possible.
i dont have a smart tv but i have my chromecast, consoles, stereo, chargers all from one outlet, then pc, monitors, printer on another.

the device uses like 2watts so thats another thing to factor in.
its nice only have devices on when needed.

I think the visa soend is A$100 or NZ$111.11

So you can get the A$5 off if you purcuase 4 (Limit is 5)

    • Thanks, I have updated the post.

Nice find. I saw that I had another coupon for $10 off a $70 purchase in DIY in the offers section.

Ended up with $51.80NZD (w/ Wise) for 3 delivered.

    Coupon: 10OFF70DIYNP

    Might be account specific though.

  • Is anyone else having issues with P110M Mini in Apple Home?
I’ve connected the plug via Tapo app then linked to Apple Home. I can see the plug in there, however, it’s always offline (when check in Tapo app, works absolutely fine there). Tried to reset and connect again a few times, still the issue.
As a hub I use Apple TV.

    Any suggestions?

    • You can try adding them directly to Home kit by scanning the QR code. Are you talking about remote access?

      • Yes, I did add it to Home kit via QR code.
Once I added it - I can see the plug in Home kit, but it’s always offline, so can’t control it from Home kit.
