    10000mAh showing as $19.97 online

  • +1

How come the website doesn't show those prices, is clearance only on in-store items?

  • Which store was it? I had a look at Royal Oak and they're at normal price.

    • +1

My store is the Nelson city branch

      • Man thats ratch

    • Did you scan at the price check kiosk? Showed $6 so grabbed the last two for my work mate and myself. Still lots of those 2600mah, should I wait till they are marked down to 1c? hmmm lol

  • +1

Shows up as 19.97 online unfortunately

  • +1

Surely they will do the same price in store as online…. The whole reasoning behind the Warehouse stores shutting down is because more and more people shop online hence I guess they would have the sharpest prices online in theory

    • It goes well with their strategy to close stores. If the company offer incentives on themarket and mobile app but keep prices high for in store is the motivation to change customer behavior and gives an excuse to kill the physical store

    • +1

The warehouse is closing down stores because there are too many other retailers selling the same junk and some selling better junk.Going online for the warehouse could be flawed as a lot people who shop online are looking for bargains rather than impulse buys at there brick and mortar stores.People who buy online are more likely to buy only discounted items and price check or buy overseas which could mean even more competition for the warehouse.

      • +1

I guess 15% GST on overseas stuff isn't doing as much as they had hoped?

        • For the warehouse to survive online it has to be next day delivery and a dedicated warehouse and not hunt around for five days trying to find a product from there other retail stores.

          • @pdevonporf: Fairly sure most normal size Warehouse online orders do come from one or more dedicated fulfillment centres. Same with the click and collect orders (hence why they are packed etc more or less exactly the same).

Not sure about oversize items, those may be different,

            • @Nil Einne: my warehouse orders always come from like 5 stores in separate packs, usually ends up with me getting 2x something tho

              • @quote: Yes the same here ,my orders come from multiple stores and rather large packaging for example an SD card coming in a box

                • @pdevonporf: Apologies guess I'm wrong. I assumed they were since my orders (both WH and WHS) generally seem to have come from fulfillment centres even those click and collect orders which were in stock in the local store, but I've only made a few orders and they've generally either been very common stuff (e.g. Necessities cleaning products or flexible tubs) or clearance.

        • +5

The 15% GST on online goods was a result of the false narrative pushed by retailers like Rod Duke of Briscoes - a total (profanity) of a human, someone who was complaining about how much Briscoes was suffering due to overseas competition (they mainly took too long to adapt to the new age) and saying it wasn't fair. To further the irony, they proceeded to put out the news that Briscoes posted record profits that quarter.

NZ Government claiming they were losing "tax revenue" because of it should look at starting to tax organisations claiming to be "non profit" while clearly operating like a business. Sanitarium Weetbix - i'm looking at you.

          • -1

@denverthedinosaur: The lack of GST on small international orders was clearly a key hole in the VAT/consumption tax regime, whether you agree the solution. While lose revenues and unfairness to local suppliers were true ultimately they were secondary

          • +1

@denverthedinosaur: Totally agree with you denver, when will the government start taxing Sanitarium. The tax from their profits alone would be a massive influx of money into the economy.

            • @RJbeetiger: Came across this when checking to see what happened with the power banks. (Was reminded of them by the PB Tech deal/)

I don't want to get too much onto this debate. Although I don't really agree with the way the charity laws work at the moment, I think you're seriously overestimating how much Sanitarium exemption actually is worth. Their revenue appears to be about $200-300 million a year. Their profits I think we don't know, but if they were earning $20-30 million on their profits on that revenue, which I'm pretty sure is a very generous assumption, that would be about $8.4 million. While that's way more tax that Google pays in NZ, it's tiny compared to the $87 billion the government collected in tax in the 2018/2019 year. It's likely to be small compared to the amount collected from the low value GST regime, which was never expected to bring it great amounts of money, just close a major loophole.

Definitely not a massive influx of money. I mean heck, even if all that $300 million was profit, which is very unrealistic, we're still only talking about $84 million which is a reasonable amount, but I wouldn't call a massive influx. And the value is almost definitely an over estimate. This suggest the profit is likely under $10 million https://www.rnz.co.nz/national/programmes/checkpoint/audio/2… So maybe $2.8 million in company tax that is exempt.

Just like with the GST issue, this doesn't mean it shouldn't be addressed. As I said, I think there are major questions over our current system, including whether religious purposes should be a valid charitable cause. Ending that would likely bring in a fair amount more although we shouldn't forget that a lot of religious groups also operate in other charitable endeavours so if the system does change, it's likely to mean a greater separation between those purposes and the religious ones with organisations dedicated to the charitable causes so those other purposes can remain registered charities. (I.E. You can't just look at e.g. all the income the Seventh Day Adventist Church made and assume it would all be taxed. E.g. the money going to the Adventist Development and Relief Agency is likely to remain untaxed.) Which also means more accounting work and expenses. (Which again doesn't mean we shouldn't do that.)

But in addressing those issues, we should be clear about what we're hoping to achieve, what positive and negative results are expected, and how much realistically we expect to collect from the changes.

      • There's also the fact that many Warehouse stores just aren't nice places to be in. Walk into a Kmart and it's bright, modern and clean. Warehouse is so often dark, run down and dirty.

  • Thanks just got one online. You have to be quick once added to cart to checkout as goes in and out of stock.

    • +1

BEWARE they may not be able to fill your order if this happens.

  • Seems to be plenty of the 8000 available - free shipping worked - grabbed a couple - they are handy for recharging the kids drones etc when travelling about.

    • You'll be charging for a long time! 2.1A max output iirc

      • True… although they are pretty cheap drones as well with shit small batteries as well.

  • +1

Can shuck these and you have a high capacity 18650 cell

    • what brand?

      • +1

Same. Tech Inc. Gonna try shucking them tonite. Won't be as good as those laptop battery ones, but for 2 bucks, eh.

  • sweet 8000mh for 9c for me!

  • -1

Actually those 5000mAh to 10000mAh are sh**y lipo cells (I can tell because they're flat). Absolutely the worst type of battery. Prone to punctures and lose more of their capacity compared to their 18650 counterparts after one year.

    • +6

That's why I will only pay 6 bucks for them lol

    • website says they're Li-ion cells, so if theyre really lipo theyre misadvertising, and you can get thin Li-ion cells, thats whats rocking around in a lot of cellphones these days

and like hound said, can you really complain for 6 bucks

      • +1

Lithium polymer is a type of lithium ion (more correctly called lithium-ion polymer) so it's quite correct. Also pretty much every single mobile phone nowadays use lithium polymer as do tablets. Even some laptops do. It's currently the only cost and capacity effective way to make a small battery you can shape as needed.

Frankly I'd trust a decent lithium polymer cell much more than some of the crappier cylindrical cell in some of the crappier power banks. To be fair, this probably isn't the best, but I'd actually still trust it more than many power banks with cylindrical cells. For better or worse, cylindrical cells in high end and even medium end power banks are dying out except maybe in the 20000mA or even higher capacity ones. So you're most likely to encounter them in cheap crap ones. (Maybe you can get some of those single cell ones which are decent quality, not sure on that score. But those things tend to be cheap and used for gifts etc so I'd be careful.)

        • +1

I should perhaps also mention that when people say lithium polymer, what they generally mean is a lithium ion battery with a gelled electrolyte of some sort. Some may use it to only mean dry or solid polymers or other mostly theoretical constructs that aren't very common. The terms aren't very precise and people use them in weird ways hence why you get stuff like 'li pol vs lithium ion' which likely means a lithium ion with a gelled electrolyte vs one with a non-gel liquid electrolyte.

Even the term lithium ion isn't very precise. If your positive electrode is lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO₄) you still have a lithium in battery or cell, yet you likely have one with some key differences from the lithium cobalt oxide (LiCoO₂) than you will encounter in most personal electronics. In fact, for most purposes, the differences between the two are far more significant than whether it has a gel electrolyte or a non-gel liquid one. And we haven't touched on the negative electrode. 18650 and other cylindrical cells can come in with various chemistries all of which are still technical lithium ion but you probably want to know the details when using one loose. (If you're actually designing products with them, there's far more about the design and characteristics of the cell or battery you need to know than I've even heard of.)

Of course for phones and stuff where it's not supposed to matter to you, the terms tend to be thrown about haphazardly. As I mentioned unless you have something very weird that used NiMH or something, it's almost definitely lithium-ion so that doesn't mean much. In many cases it's probably lithium polymer. But whether this is mentioned or it's just called lithium-ion is a bit random. This tends to cause a lot of confusion about what is actually in devices.

          • @Nil Einne: Consider myself more informed, I knew they were not too disimilar, but as the saying would go: " Not all Lithium Ion are LiPo's, but all LiPo's are Lithium Ion"? I just have vague memories of some older battery packs that indicated lithium polymer on it as opposed to Lithium ion.
But like you pointed out, there are bad and good batteries of probably all batteries, except NiCads, never liked them. or the NiMH that exploded on me haha.

  • Unfortunately we've not been able to locate the following items just yet.

We’ve got our best people looking through our stores around the country for you. This can sometimes add a few additional days to the delivery and we apologise for the delay. We'll get back to you with an update within 5 days.

Has anyone received this email as well or is it just me?

    • I haven't received the email yet but whenever I received this email in the past they've never ended up sending the items.
I always got the email apologising that they couldn't find the product and gave me a free shipping code few days later.
      Hopefully it's different this time

      • That is kind of odd that they can oversell products like that. I would have thought their inventory systems would be accurate.

        • +1

i think the issue is they listed all inventory online, but also sells at stores at the same time, when people purchase online items wont be despatched until the next day usually- but items could be sold in stores before they get around to despatch items, hence causing issues

    • What items? Some WHS stores also stock the same power banks. Also 75% off.

On another note, I could see there were still lots of good clearance stuff on Monday at some stores , then when 70% hit… Bam! They were all gone. Anyways, I hope TWH staff will enjoy their purchases hehehe.

      • Only in store? When I look online it only has the original clearance price, the 70% or 75% isn't shown at least for the 8000mAh and 10000mAh even after adding to cart

        • Well okay I was only able to add the 8000mAh to cart as 10000mAh is also out of stock. Looking at the main page, it does say tech accessory clearance items are supposed to be 70% but only one iPhone case shows up when I click the list so for some reason on the online store they aren't connsidered tech accessory clearance. Guess I'll go in store and have a look.

    • Just received the same email. 3 of my local stores are still showing products in stock so hopefully I'll be able to receive it.

      • Fingers crossed, but I would take the app stock levels with a grain of salt. I have been caught out with no stock in store 2 or 3 times when the stock level was green.

I bought one of these power banks online today, however I'm not certain if they will find one. Also I went into my local Warehouse store today and even though the stock level was green all the powerbanks were gone. So unless they have product out the back it's not looking great for me.

        • went into my local Warehouse store today and even though the stock level was green all the powerbanks were gone

Hoarded out back in the staff room :D

    • Yep my order was canceled

      • Was it the 8000mAh?

  • +1

Just an fyi if you are planning to buy these note they are not 18650 batteries.

But still a great deal especially with Christmas just around the corner could make great stocking stuffers.

    • err yeah, we were referring to the 2500mah power banks. The slim flat ones will not fit those cylindrical batteries.

  • gone. these items have been removed from the website. put the final two in my cart, before I checked out, there were gone

  • Fyi…
Takanini has heaps of them on their display shelves, you need to ask for it. They have 8000s, 5000s and 2500s
I went there yesterday at 9:30pm and they had decent stock of it.

    • Some warehouse stationery stores also stock them as well. Since WHS wasn't mentioned in the Cheapies deal, it wasn't cleaned out like TWH.

      • They aren’t on special at warehouse stationery

        • Did you ask the checkout to check the prices? I have a feeling that the products are on special across both TWH and WHS strores. Some stores just don't update their price tags.

        • Heya you could be right. I bought all my 2500mah from WHS, but couldn't see any flat power bank ones. Either all sold out or excluded from clearance.

          • @The Hound: At Warehouse Stationery The 8000mAh and 10000mAh were on clearance online yesterday but didn't seem to have the 70% off, and didn't show up when you clicked on the tech accessories thing. I didn't check the 2500mAh since wasn't interested in them, and I found them at Warehouse anyway, and it was too late to check in store at Warehouse Stationery.

Now online the 8000mAh including one I added to cart and 10000mAh and 2500mAh just show up as normal price not even on clearance. Since they're supposed to have 70% off for tech accessories you may be able to convince them if you find them in store with yellow stickers I guess.

  • Got to give it to Warehouse. Ordered couple of 5Ah ones yesterday afternoon, used the free shipping coupon. Got it delivered today morning in a "semi" rural address in Canterbury. Thumbs up to WH and Courier post. And thanks OP.

  • +1

Got my 8000 in the mail today… not my 10000 thou. I think its not coming.

  • +1

Just got email that my 10000mah shipped, I was not expecting it tbh.

  • +1

The prices have gone back to normal.
    10000mAh $30.00
    8000mAh $24.00
    5000mAh $17.00

They better not say they couldn't find any stock as they're now selling the 8000mAh for normal prices

    • Yeah I just notice 8000mAh back to $24, I wonder is that how warehouse clear out the previous batch stock by putting them on clearance, and then selling new batch with normal price. I have bought a pool with clearance price before and thought they will be gone until next summer, but now it's back online with normal price.

      • I had a look at one of the stores, they're clearly clearing out all their powerbanks with the yellow stickers.

      • This looks more like a pricing error, they seldom run clearance sales just for a couple of days then revert back to the normal prices.

        • I think you might be right. Those $200 clearance mobile phones going for only $60 have gone up in price. Managed to snagged one last week.

  • Just got an email…they are giving me a refund

"We’re sorry to be sending this email instead of your item(s), but we are unable to fulfil the following."

  • My brother contacted the Warehouse and they have told him the order was cancelled because there was no stock remaining even though their website has been taking orders for the 8000mAh all week.
Does that mean they have been selling products they don't even have?

    • Not necessarily. When your brother placed an order last week, it is sent to a particular store that is showing stock. Staff goes and retrieves the stock on the shelf. It is not there. Activates the email "There is a delay in your order", which simply means 'I can't be bothered locating the item. Send apology email. Send free shipping code for next order. Process refund'.

After one week have past, new stock is located at other stores after the overnight stock-takes. Activate item back online, and back to full price, lol.
