  • Been waiting for a good price on 2tb drives…thanks.

  • Bought 1,thanks.

  • thanks op, bought 1

  • Will NL price match Mighty Ape?

    • Just tried, nope they can't

      • whats their excuse this time?

        • +1

Not in stock in their store, only in stock with supplier.

          • @bilberry: Looks like most stores have at least a handful of stock. Unless you were unlucky and your local didn't have any. Was this in-store or online?

            • @Hamster: I think he means mighty ape didn't have in stock

          • @bilberry: I have had them do this, apparently it has to be in stock in the store, even though stores often hold minimal stock of some things, and don't stock some things at all. Also they have often honoured the price match, even if they had to get it in, so there is no consistency.

  • Would pay to check the Amazon reviews, 15% failure rate on these drives. Seagate used to offer a 5 year warranty once upon a time, they don't anymore. WD give 3 years.

    • As attached storage in a non-critical situation i.e a Freeview PVR these would be fine.

    • The only drive that has ever died on me was a Seagate (2TB 3.5"). I won't go anywhere near them.

Amazon reviews can put you in doubt as people are more likely to post a bad experience than a good one.
I have a few of these and they are good as they still have a sata interface unlike WD passports if you plan to shuck them for laptops, consoles.

  • So apparently this was a pricing error. They contacted me to say because I had order more than 1 (I also ordered one for a friend so we could go halves on the shipping) they would only supply one. Yet if they had purchased it separately themselves they would have got it. Not all that happy because it didn't appear to be a pricing error, and certainly not obvious. Another retailer was selling them at the same time for about $30 more on sale, so the pricing wasn't that different. Now I can't even buy that one, because that other sale has ended too. Anyone else affected by this?

    • I figured it was an error from the start, cheapest ever $88 on pricespy or $50USD on Amazon($78 + shipping). Unless it was end of line you don't see that high of a discount on electronics.

      • I guess it depends on how much someone looks around at prices and researches the price history. But you average consumer wouldn't be doing that. These things do drop in price over time though, and other retailers have been discounting harddrives a lot including JBHifi which had a 1.5TB one up to yesterday for $69 with a coupon. It certainly wasn't an 'obvious' error IMO. If a company is trying to clear old stock quickly, they can reduce the price to sell large quantities, and it is common for electrics to be reduced in price significantly from time to time to clear old models or old packaging, as newer models come out, especilly as these older spinning harddrives are becoming less popular.

    • $63 does not seem like a price error (compared to say 30 or 10 bucks) so I don't think the law can protect them much here. I suppose that is why they are still offering you 1 out of 2 units to keep you happy.

      • I agree, and it is good that they did offer 1. But it isn't much good if a couple of people pooled together to buy them so there was only one shipping fee. But one issue I have is that it took them until Wednesday to pick up the error (I ordered it in the Weekend) and contact customers, whereas there were still some other good deals up until yesterday, and could have got the extra one for $69 from JB HiFi on special with their coupon.

        • Looks like the the JB deal is still going(states valid until the 16th), ask in the comments for a code and someone will probably send you one(theres a few people here that made tens of accounts to get codes)

What law? Also their obligations are likely different as no goods or money had changed hands(they charge CC's when picking/shipping orders).

They are doing it out of goodwill and probably losing a few grand

        • Well said Teckiwi. People citing and quoting law should first understand the laws. MA had no obligations here and have gone above and beyond in an act of goodwill.

  • Damn, popped in to ask if anyone had received theirs yet. Guess mine won't be delivered ~~now :(

NM. Just checked the order details & says it should ship tomorrow.
