  • Pbtech also selling this with a BONUS Nothing CMF Watch Pro 2 worth $159.

    Seems cheaper also

A smartwatch like the Nothing Watch is a nice gadget on its own, but it has nothing to do with flying a DJI drone.
It doesn’t connect to your drone, doesn’t affect performance, and won’t help you stay in the air any longer.
With our Easter Bonus, you’re getting a genuine DJI accessory that’s actually made for your drone - something that directly contributes
to your flying experience and helps you get more time in the air 😉 DJI Avata 360 Drone itself not cheaper there.

  • Not related to the deal, but my general thoughts about this drone as someone who flies Avata 2 and (occasionally) Air 3.

Avata 360 is neither good at FPV, neither it is good as a camera drone.

Reasons for it to be a questionable choice for an FPV drone:
    * It is bigger, with lot more surface area that will generate drag, which makes drone feel weird when active piloting. Avata 2 is already quite terrible with being like a flying sail boat, compared to "proper" fpv drones, especially in the wind.
    * It is heavier. Makes it much less agile for FPV flights
    * It doesn't have manual mode (at least right now, they might add it later, who knows). I think they know how bad it will feel in fully manual mode, therefore not releasing this functionality.

Reasons for it to be a questionable choice as a Camera drone:
    * 360 cameras are super wide-angle. They excel at close shots, ideally in very active scene (low passes, flying close to objects at speed etc). Anything in distance is going to be extremely small in the frame. You have software dewarping but this comes at the expense of picture quality/resolution.
    * Horizontal stitch line. Because this drone has cameras pointing up-down, they stitch the two images right in the middle of your frame. Based on some videos, you can see how bad it is when flying close to objects, which defeats the whole point of such a wide angle camera drone. This stitch is also going to follow every movement of the drone, which is usually fine with normal 360 cameras, but they usually have forward-backward facing setup, so the stitch is on the periferal, not usually in the center of the frame.

I agree, this drone is a cool gimmick for those that want to add something different to their videos. But:
    * This doesn't look like a fun drone to fly
    * It is BIG, it doesn't fold, it's larger than Avata 2. Will take more space in your bag when travelling.
    * The video footage produced by it will be heavy (8k60)
    * You need to frame your shots in DJI software first, then export to your editing software of choice.
    * You still need another drone for all other shots you would want to do. So it doesn't replace anything existing. Because of that, they should have made it a separate lineup. Maybe it's the case here and they release Avata 3 for more FPV focused folk, but who knows…

Nothing like looking at spending $1400 and not knowing exactly what you'll be getting. Can't say I've ever seen the marketing tactic before of saying the item comes with a free bonus but not telling anyone what the free bonus item is unless they contact the store and ask first.

Good way to discourage the impulse buyers I guess.

It should be really easy to figure out with our hint above - or at least, that’s what we thought.

      • Sold. Ordering one soon.

      • Thanks for that. I assumed it was a battery of some kind but seeing as I know absolutely nothing about drones I couldn't be sure that it wasn't some other kind of gadget or component that could be swapped out on the unit. Not everyone shopping for drones is knowledgeable about drones, that's why it's a good idea to give too much information rather than being ambiguous with your advertising.
