Isn't Sonos the company that had a cloud based app you had to use, then they dumped it and released a new one missing all of the features that people used and took a "Let them eat cake" approach?

This part would make me concerned:
    "Works with Apple and Android"

The fact that they say that, despite it being Bluetooth, indicates the app is mandatory. Bluetooth is neither an Android, nor an Apple thing, but apps are.

  • At roughly the same price point, would these be comparable to the Sony XM5's or more towards the XM4's? Obviously the XM6's are newer, but also higher priced.

Im waiting on a Black Friday deal for the XM6!

A few things to take into consideration, if you have big ears your ears will be touching the foam as they have shallow ear cups and also the padding on the top is non existent compared to the XM4, XM5.

        • Yep ive had 2 xm4s and currently using xm5 (which i hate the folding mechanism).

I think these are on par with the XM5s, saw online that the new firmware update has significantly improved ANC and mic quality maybe slightly below the Bose QCU and XM6

I found these to be way more comfortable than the XM5, XM6, and Bose when I tried them on instore and feel a bit more premium for the same price of the other brands.

Had the XM6, great headphones but I found them to be quite uncomfortable for long periods of time (fly alot for work) kept on having to adjust to find a good fit but could only wear for an hour two at a time. Also Sony has the worst customer service, when they had physical stores they were great to deal with.

My first XM6 was faulty, and it took over 40 days to be able to return it to them. Also got transferred to different departments every time I called and had to explain to a new person everytime. So decided to ditch them and try something else… will give the Sonos ago, and see if I like them or now.

Yeah I'd rate these. I had the xm4s which ended up getting a broken hinge. I saw its been a problem for a bunch of the xm line over the years (including the xm5) so I don't have much hope for the xm6.

These on the other hand are built very well and yeah the newer updates have improved the ANC a bunch - its not as good as the bose and its probably on par with my xm4s, but yeah it makes up for it in build quality. The mic is really really good on these, I use it exclusively for work and it supports wide voice band on samsung phones.

The sound is a bit lacking in the treble out of the box but you can eq that up. No issues otherwise. These are a great deal at $500

  • Anyone know if it can be folded? Cannot find any info on it on the product website.
Also, wonder what the mic quality is like compared to xm5

    • I think these are on par with the XM5s, saw online that the new firmware update has significantly improved ANC and mic quality maybe slightly below the Bose QCU and XM6.

      Cannot be folded.

  • So basically we’re saying here:
XM6 have shallow muffs so your skin will touch the squishy bits if you’re big.

And they can be fragile and snap at the joints.

  • Thoughts re Sennheiser M4s?

    • Good sound, but horrible ANC…compared to sony, bose.

    • Used my pair for three years now - some issues with durability (fabric on headband coming loose). Sound is great but as Lieutenantdave pointed out ANC is lacking. If you've use any of the later generation Sony or Bose offerings you'll probably be underwhelmed, but without comparing side-by-side the ANC performance is fine for me commuting and in the office. Battery life is great, only charge them every ~14 days.

Additional context from an earlier comment of mine:

I've had the Momentum 4's for almost 2 years now. It's a bit hard for me to compare to the XMs or the QCs as I've never used those extensively, but objectively: very, very solid pair of headphones. Battery life is amazing (can go way more than a week without charging), I have no complaints at all with the sound quality, and noise cancelling is perfectly satisfactory. Never really get tired of them from a comfort perspective, except maybe after a few hours after use while wearing glasses.

The app… works fine, not the most amazing thing in the world, but then again, I don't have much use for the app features - more of a set and forget thing. Having a USB DAC built into the headphones is convenient, as it allows you to plug a USB-C cable into a computer/phone and use them wired, for better sound quality or while charging. I've had no issues with Bluetooth connectivity, and multipoint works well.

Only real downsides for me would probably be the cosmetic issue that develops with the fabric headband over time (see Reddit), but PB were nice enough to cover that even outside of warranty. Also, keep in mind that they don't fold, and the included carrying case is relatively large.

Given the price that you can pick them up for (~$300), I'm real happy with mine and I've no interest in upgrading for as long as these last. Might be worth looking at the Accentum/Plus models too. I believe they are largely similar to the M4s, although I've no experience with them.

Ah yes, forgot about the battery life, probably has the best battery life out of all ANC headphones.

  • Own Sonos Beam and Sub 3. Can confirm their apps suck. I'd rather get a Sony.

    • Sony has their own problem, durability and sucky customer service.

      • Don't need to use Sony's customer service if you buy from a retailer though?

        • Only good thing is their 30 day trial, if you dont like it send it back. Cant do that with retailers..

Just received my pair, took just under two weeks to get delivered (Sonos ships products from their warehouse in Australia twice a week to NZ however they ship to DHL, for DHL to sort and send to customers, retailers. Just as an FYI).

    From first impressions:

APP: the app is easy to navigate, very basic compared to Sony, Bose. Has all the essentials, EQ is very basic.

Build/Quality: The headphones itself, feel a lot more premium than its competitors, Sony XM5, 6, Bose QCU etc. Sturdy, not creaky, ear cups are magnetic so can be easily replaced, cleaned. The case it quite slim, offers decent protection, however the zipper for the case, I can see it getting broken pretty quick, they used the smallest zipper. Doesn't come close to the magnetic clasp on the XM6 which probably is the best case in the headphones market, and hopefully more companies adopt a similar design.

Comfort: I personally have found these the most comfortable headphones I've tried so far, very plush, not much clamp force.

ANC/Transparency: I mainly use headsets for travel, so looking forward to trying these on long haul flights. ANC so far seems nearly as good as the XM6, better than the QCU, QC, XM5.
Transparency mode is not as good as the XM6, but better than the others i mentioned above.

Call quality: yet to try, however supposedly has been improved since the last update
