Unless you need to be on the spark network, IMO the mightymoblie deal is better if you have someone to split it with.

Pretty high prices compared to Kogan or MM.
    No incentive to jump ship.

  • Endless data speed (after using the capped amount) is 1.2 Mbps according to the skinny FAQ:
    https://www.skinny.co.nz/help/mobile-help/general/general/en…

    • Yeah, that's really slow. I've been caught out, it just doesn't cut it nowadays. I'd rather have say 10mbps unlimited all the time. I'm surprised Skinny folk can't see that would be something people want.

Good to see competition offering something that's longer than 4 weeks - I left Spark (pay monthly - $45/month, 3gb) last year and took the 2Degrees offer (prepaid monthly - $26/month, 10gb rollover, unlimited calls and texts) and haven't looked back since.

Nothing would convince me much to change now.

    • Kogan would be better/cheaper compared to your 2D Plan.
Rather than 10GB you get 15 GB data with Kogan Large plan both have unlimited calls/texts, Kogan is $198 meaning $16.50 a month.
Other than the rollover data Kogan is a clear winner.

Fair enough. The thing stopping me from moving is that their support tends to be atrocious according to experiences I heard, plus I'm not particularly good with annual plans. Of course, I end up paying a bit more, but I'm quite happy with my almost 60gb sitting on my plan at the moment. 😅

Someone on Geekzone posted that these plans are eligible for the $10/mo discount on Skinny broadband plans, which should make this better than the Kogan/MM deals if you can take advantage of it.

    • That’s true!!

It's nowhere near as good as the Kogan or MightyMobile - but I'm totally onboard for the increased availability of the yearly plans for a discount. Hopefully in the next 12-24 months will see a bit more competitive price movements in this regard!

FYI if you already have a skinny plan with rollover's accumulated, and you switch to another plan, you'll lose that roll over data/minutes - just in case anyone is considering changing to one of these plans expecting to keep it

Incorrect, confirmed via Skinny staff that existing rollover is kept when moving to a yearly plan, and also kept when moving back to monthly in a years time.
I was on the $17 plan, had a few GB of rollover data, just got the yearly plan for $207, and kept all my data/mins.

      • Incorrect. It literally happened to me and that is what they told me when I complained - if you downgrade cost price plans, you lose it. If you go up a plan you can keep it, but not down.

        • Not sure what plans you're referring to, but losing rollover balance has never happened to me, I've downgraded/upgraded multiple times in the past with Skinny, switching between their $17 and $27 plans, always keeping rollover balances, and also in the past when they had higher plans with rollover data too.

    • Does joining the yearly plan immediately terminate / cut short your existing plan cycle - Say if you were only 5 days into your new 4-weekly plan cycle when buying the yearly package?

      • +1

Yes, the yearly plan started immediately, and my $17 plan stopped, although as mentioned above I kept the rollover data/mins from my $17 plan.
Skinny app for me now shows at the top: (I get a new pack of data/mins every 28 days)
        - Inclusion renews in 25 days
        - Current pack inclusion: 1 of 13

Thanks for the speedy reply 👍🏻
All while I'm still waiting for Skinny support on Messenger for an answer… Lol.
Do you know if the unused data from each cycle gets carried over to the next renewal - Like a 4week plan normally does? (For 4GB plan say)

          • +1

@kenshiro: Yes for the 4GB yearly plan, its rollover data.
Not sure about the larger 10GB yearly plan, as that is max speed data then endless data at slower speed.
