Go on to the one.nz website, look at Pay Monthly plans, and put in your contact details - but don't hit submit or make an order. You will receive a few phone calls but eventually later that day you will get an email with below-the-line offers. I was offered significant discounts for 12-months over and above what they normally offer on their website:

    There are already plenty of Cheapies deals for mobile plans that are worth checking out. Some of them are not even limited-time promotions — they are ongoing offers that provide better value.

    Take the Endless Starter Plan – $40/month as an example. You get 11GB of full-speed data, which is going to run out pretty quickly for many people these days. Once that allowance is used, you drop down to unlimited data at a reduced speed. Looking at the fine print, the reduced speed is only around 1.2Mbps ("Maximum speed reduced to 1.2Mbps after full speed data allowance is exceeded"). That is an extremely poor experience for modern usage.

    For comparison, Mighty Mobile offers a $40/month unlimited data plan:

    You get unlimited data at up to 10Mbps for the entire duration of the plan, which is roughly 8.3x faster than One NZ's throttled speed. Everything else is essentially the same.

    Want to make it even cheaper? The 365-day plan (which is comparable to One NZ's 12-month plan) through Primate (free signup and you can cancel the trial) works out to $279.30/year, which comes to only $23.28/month.

    As for the One Wallet credit, that is not particularly useful. This is also one of the reasons many people stopped using Dosh — they replaced the cashback rewards with One NZ credit instead.

    If the argument is that you can use the credit towards purchasing devices or other products, then that is not necessarily good value. In most cases, you can get modern phones and other devices at significantly better prices through other deals rather than redeeming One NZ credit.

    For example, just the other day I bought a Galaxy S26 Ultra brand new for $1,250 and flipped it. You would not be able to get that kind of value if you were relying on One NZ credit to purchase the same device.

    So unless I'm missing some major advantage of the One NZ plan, there are much better-value options available.

      I think this is a solid deal compared to the traditional ones the big companies offer. Cheaper and more value.

      Mighty/Kogan-type options aren't great overall outside of incredible data deals. You can't reply to certain SMS/texts, right? If it takes away functionality, it's also got drawbacks.

      Skinny's deal (which isn't at its best now) is one of very few good alternatives that's in between these two extremes. Cheaper, higher data, full functionality and a good network it uses.
