Looks like a very low price for a 4.5L Air fryer.
Not sure of the Brand But at $48 • 4.5L Capacity & • 1500W Cooking power doesn't seems too bad.
Kitchen Couture 4.5L Air Fryer $48 + $9.99 Delivery ($0 C&C/ In-store) @ Spotlight

one of the comment described he followed instructions to run the device at maximum heat for 20 minutes before first use. When they turned it off and tried to remove the pot, the handle detached, a window or viewing panel fell out, and they discovered that plastic components inside had melted. I'm worried about the quality of this device.

Yeah, it's a bit of a worry when some of these very cheap units become old units and potentially burn your house down.

Agree with some of the comments in the OzB link above - feels cheaply made.
I see another comment in the OzB link about the timer knob. Mine was loose right out of the box but it still functioned.
Just last month, I think the plastic broke more on the knob so it wasn't actually catching the turn key. I went to replace at Spotlight and they happily swapped it for me.
The checkout staff commented at how cheap I got it ($39).At that price I seriously cannot complain for occasional use. It does the job. If you're looking to start trying air fryers, this is a good one to start with to see if you like the results. This was us. We now use it for convenience rather than a first choice for cooking. Still prefer the good 'ol oil.
None of the components are machine washable including the internal grill tray. We use a silicone air fryer tray inside to get away with the cleaning.

Why not just get this one - https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/HOMNJA0005/Ninja-Foodi-AF10…
It's 3.8L instead of 4.5L but it's close enough and it's a much better brand. Yes it's double the price but it's still less than $100, which is nothing. You're not really saving much, especially if it breaks and you'd have to go through the hassle of getting it replaced or whatever, all because of a $50 difference.
Personally, I'd never go cheap on items like this because it's health and safety and it's related to the food you're consuming.

I agree with most of your comments (cheaping out on this model doesn't seem worth it at all, and if I was in the market for an air fryer, and only had $50 to spend, a high end used model on TradeMe is likely a far better purchase for the same money)
However I'll call you out on the statement "…$100, which is nothing" as being in your own little bubble. For many people, that $50 is a LOT of money, representing much if not all of their remaining disposable income for a purchase like this. $100 isn't nothing, otherwise you'd have no problem giving that money to someone on here who was in need of an airfryer and couldn't afford anything more than $50
But yes, cheaping out on something that poses a health risk, or a risk of fire such as this isn't a good purchase, regardless of price.

Fair point — but I would argue that the value of money is always relative. For example, $10K or even $100K might be considered "chump change" to a billionaire. We may not relate to that reality, but judging them for their perception of money would be a waste of time and energy. Context matters.
In today's economy, especially with ongoing inflation, $100 isn't a particularly large amount for most discretionary purchases. I've spent $120 easily on a single dinner the other day and my total spend last month was $8000, excluding bills and core expenses. Internet bills across most ISPs are now at $82~$90 easily.
And frankly, if someone is truly struggling with only $50 to spend for the week or month, an air fryer probably shouldn't be a priority. Essentials like food, shelter, and utilities would reasonably take precedence. Otherwise, they aren't being wise with their money and that's a bigger problem to focus on, than being political about my view on the $100 or $50.
If a person is seriously considering whether to spend $50 or $100 on an air fryer, that suggests they have at least some discretionary income available. Otherwise, it would make more sense to either purchase an even cheaper alternative (like a $20 model from Kmart) or forego the purchase altogether.
When browsing deals on a platform like Cheapies, ideally, one should already be budgeting for discretionary purchases without counting every last dollar — otherwise, the financial decision itself may be questionable and they probably shouldn't even be on Cheapies to begin with, because most deals on Cheapies aren't for the people who often worry about the leftover $50 or $100 they have to spend for the week or month. They should be focused on getting food instead of random things posted on Cheapies.
Lastly, while $100 may not be a huge amount to me personally, that doesn't mean I would hand it over to random strangers online. I would however happily pay for a meal for friends and family or spend that money (or more) on gifts for them.

I bought one of these 6 months ago and it's been good. No issues, although I haven't used it heavily.

Just got one for 38$. Thanks.
Looking at the reviews I might have to use the warranty frequently.Don’t forget to use BIRTHDAY10 promo for 10$ off.

Yeah i just purchased one this weekend, out of the box, the timer handle was broken. Got a replacement one, the handle broke when pulled upon checking. Went back and got the 12L which was $128-$10=$118. Used it 3x already, cooked whole chicken and other things, works perfectly good. Compared the rating on both, $38 one has many bad reviews where as 12L one has only 2 1 stars, 1x 3 stars and 93 five stars. Shows has over 533 ratings. Sitting at 4.8 on that many, worth extra bucks.

Got this the last time it was on special. No issues cooks pretty well and reheats the KFC stashed away in the freezer very nicely (thank you six and shout game!)
One thing is the flimsy temperature nob. After a while it came off and wouldn't catch. Fixed with super glue.

I had a Kitchen Couture Air Fryer since 2017, bought from Dick Smith Australia and is still going strong! So I can vouch for the brand as such, but mine is an older model.

Looked into this last week. OzB posts
Key concern is that the front may fall off.
