Can be either in dollar terms or the non-monetary value you got (or still get) from the purchase.

Saw this posted over on OzBargain and it looked like a bit of fun :)

  • Sony XM4 a couple of years ago comes to mind. Bought 2 and still use them.

When we could stack voucher codes on TWH during the heyday - buying Pokémon cards and Toys.

  • I've bought some very expensive RRP Lego sets at about 70% off due to combining sales, code stacking and glitches.

    Cheap TVs and coffee machines.

I've also purchased new commercial ovens and other commercial kitchen equipment at 90% off including delivery. That wasn't through Cheapies… Just keeping an eye on particular websites. It's epic when businesses combine stackable sales, stock taking and clearance deals all at the same time.

    • Curious which website you use, a commercial oven would be nice to have at home, although even at 90% off my partner might still kill me for buying a $60,000 oven

      • Possibly Nisbets

        • Yes, this was Nisbets. I cleared a ton of stuff out which went a long way in helping my small business.

          • @wowbigdeal: Nisbets still owes me that pan from last time. went out of stock and never delivered.

          • @wowbigdeal: Do they still do any of this or is it a missed opportunity now? Just wondering if it's worth tracking

            • @KevlarCoated: This was in March 23. None of their sales have come close since. I was sure it was all going to be cancelled, but they even called me to confirm that there would be enough space for the truck to make delivery.

        • Their sales stink now, I miss the stupid prices they offered

    • What lego sets out of interest? Some of the big ones have been on my wishlist for ages but can't justify $1000+

      • Interested in Lego too

        • +1

The very best Lego deal I got was at least a couple of years ago. Going through emails it doesn't have all of the discount details… But from memory:
          Lego Assembly Square 10255 $450.
          Price promise with Kmart (10%).
          Vouchers $5 off $50, $10 off $100.
          (Something something..)
          BOGOF glitch.
          Two for $275 delivered.

Was absolutely stoked with this and was completely surprised when it came through. Also felt a little bad as the BOGOF glitch was not a very nice way to go about it, but it is what it is. It was when TWH site/app was very broken.

These were great gifts for the family, I bought a couple but when I went to pick it up someone had ordered 10

I got one of those in that deal last year, my niece loved it as a Xmas present.
Heard later that she lost Alexa privileges for a few weeks though because she was asking it all the rude words.

  • It has to be free food with Doordash few months ago!

  • +1

That's a hard one, in terms of pure one off money saving the TCL C835 deal saved me over $1000 and the TVs great and used every day.

But long term the digital tourism for subscriptions deals is really racking up, saving on gamepass, Netflix, Spotify and youtube probably adds up to about $50 a month.

Also love the good hack deals on bills, jumping internet providers, credit cards or recently stuffing a $1 mighty mobile in to sim slot 2 means getting great plans for little money.

    • +1

      What's your Spotify saving?

I use Spotify NZ family for $25 then sell subscriptions for $4-5 each meaning I pay $3 per month.

For YouTube premium I use Indian family account.

      • I'm in Turkey for it so costs about $3 a month for the duo plan for the two of us which means no messing about with selling accounts. The family plan isnt much extra but you need to deal with whoever you sell on to updating their locations and address with a vpn that wolluldnt be that practical for on selling. Would be profitable as one user at $4-5 would cover the whole plan.

  • I would say the early days of the Waitomo Spin to Win promo.
Back when if you didn’t like the amount you spun you could just keep spinning until you got $20 or even $50 worth of fuel.
Even better when some smart Cheapies worked out the links to give you a guaranteed win

  • Probably this https://www.cheapies.nz/node/36907 but on par with when torpedo 7 messed up their promo system a few years back, about to go camping again with my almost free setup

    • T7 here as well, got double ups of heaps of things at bargain prices

    • I forgot about the torpedo 7 promo, half price site wide and adding more than one item just didn't charge you for the items. I didn't end up getting anything but a guy at work stood firm on the issue that they took payment so a contract was entered and got thousands of dollars of stuff for a fraction of what it was worth.

    1-day $5 off $5.01 happening 3 or 4 times was crazy.

    • And at The Warehouse

    • Yeah, so much M&Ms and Whittaker's were had

  • +2

Stacking 7 coupons to get a S23 Ultra down for $1.1k down from $2.3k

    • Similarly, got the Flip5 for $1.1k from $2.1k including free Buds2 Pro

  • +1

Technically the $50 free I got from new world surveys that were linked here once. (havent won any since).

Oh! Also the free $50 voucher I got for going to noel leeming in the morning near black friday. Got my voucher and left.

Over the years the free pizza https://www.cheapies.nz/node/32711 although I've been doing this since at least 2016 when it was a free side with the same code.

nothing touches the eol clearance stuff i got through my retail employer, but it also makes me very hesitant knowing more-or-less the cost & margin in specials from harveys/jb/pb/nl etc so I dont like to buy things unless they're clearly on a promo on the importer/ supplier end of things

    • Got that voucher too and it was great. Got a Russell Hobbs steamer for less than $30 after using codes (from here too).

And the free Michael Hill necklace - absolutely love it. Waiting for member sale to grab the matching earrings.

  • Best one which is still actively used are the Turkey/India subscriptions.

2nd is probably not that common. Skinny mobile referal bonus with new sim. Used to get $20 back when I activate new sim($1) on $16 plan = net profit of $3/month plus bonus data every month. Had free $16 plan after 6months od referring myself. Kept on going for more than 2 years without paying. Best monetary value.

3rd would be between echo show 5 @$29 and Ferrero rochers from twh last year.

Lastly, some quite discounted eufy stuff, tools from bunnings, Samsung q800c sound bar, $200 4k monitor, hdds and lots more.

    • That skinny referral gig is legendary - never thought about that! Sad they changed it to a $10 refferal bonus now.

One week last year countdown had $20 skinny top ups for $12 - i brought $400 worth of them and added them all to my account. That was the good days!!

      • +1

Yes. I bought few topups as well.

  • Free leg of lamb x 2 from giftcard / purchases.
Cheap avocados 80% off avotree with an extra $10 credited back.

Best deal was probably ue boom 3 for $98.

  • 2 deals for phones.
Samsung galaxy S10+ buy one get one free from Noel leeming a few years ago. I sold the other on TradeMe.
Samsung Galaxy S23+ for $900 in August.

  • +1

Probably the Amazon AU Seagate Ironwolf Pro's

    • +1

Oh yup, that one as well. Missed out on the pro though.

  • Best ever was probiably the free fuel from waitomo in the eairly days, when ypu could keep spinning untill you got a $20 or $50 voucher….

I was one of the lucky few to get the $5 (+shipping in my case) polisher. Actually had been shopping for a polisher then too.

    https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=8997844…

Stacking lot of discount codea to get my wife a s23+ (with screen protector, case & 45w charger) for under $1000 was amazing. Kicking myself for not getting one for myself also…

Years back there was a deal at one of the big online retailers with both free shipping and a big discount off small purchases was amazing. Stack of 10+ courier bags on my doorstep from buying dishwashing tablets etc.

Samsung student website + $30 off code was great too (free shipping). Tracking fobs & 25w chargers for $5 delivered…

    Youtube pro va turkey.

Kogan mobile half pirce or 2 for 1 deals.

    • +1

Kogan Mobile black Friday $1 for 3 months. Yeah I'll buy that for dollar 👍

  • +1

Also there was a glitch on TheMarket with "Barkers" , pretty much 50% of the stock was all priced at $40 each. Then you could get free delievery and $20 off TheMarket with the referral promo.
Got a ton if business shirts (Retail $170 each), Pants (Retail $150 each), and a few Winter Coats (Retail $500+ each).

  • +2

Oh i forgot my terramaster https://www.cheapies.nz/node/39399

    • Yep! I finally put a drive in mine last week :D

      • +1

Ive got jellyfin running in a docker container, (learnt how to do that) and it's been my little home 'netflix' server

        • Nice! I already had Plex running on my home server so plan is to use it for storage only, but I did see it can run apps which is cool.

  • Buy 1 get 1 free S10 phone from PBtech in April 2019.

50% off Skytv for a year, via Grabone (Black Friday sale in 2019)

Code stacking S23 Ultra for $1100 in July 2023

    Netflix Turkey

  • Best deals have to be free (or near free) food or fuel for me. The Countdown trolley dash game; won Onecard vouchers and free fuel. That $1 for 5 huge lunch meals from Mealpal was pretty epic too. Last but not least was the first ever Waitomo spin for moolah in 2020 with upto $100 wins and unlimited tries. Strangely it never made it to Cheapies, maybe because Waitomo was relatively unknown and people thought it might be a scam? lol

    • Forgot about Trolleydash. I might have got $500 worth of petrol then, and a similar amount from the Flybuys promotion in Sep 2021 https://www.cheapies.nz/node/29226

      • I forgot there was a 2 or 3 month expiry on fuel in that AAsmartfuel? card back then, so wasted a bit of precious fuel arghh

  • S23+ deal with multiple codes recently (I didn't use this deal - I wish I used this, ended up getting a s22 ultra from pbtech block Friday sale).

$1 or less printers or printers that cost less than the rebate.

$1 or less label printers or label printers that cost less than the rebate.

    $0 nespresso capsule machines

Recently got free Lego and coffees from the Riccarton mall code.

Some very cheap Seagate iron wolf pro 20TB HDDs x4 I got this year

Heidi Klum boxers for $5 ea

Cheap Huggies diapers from the warehouse using price match discount then adding on some extra discount codes, bought 400.

    • Ahh yes the Heidi Klum and Bendon undies, my favourites.

    • Yeah, I got a Brother printer for around half price for $149.50 and then got a $150 cash back from Brother. So technically Brother paid me 50c tho buy the printer.
The printer was awesome and I never used OEM cartridges.

  • +2

The free car washes and hot drinks from Z because people kept finding test codes, that was a great time

also when TWH messed up their deals and the ferrero b1g1 came out pretty cheap

also miss TWH free shipping dayss

    • ahh yes that Z one, but most of the vouchers dissappeared from the app the next day, sad face 😔 haha

      • My local Z cancelled all wash vouchers issued that day that weren't used.

Which majorly pissed me off cause I'm already used all the "mistake" codes elsewhere and the one I got from my local was an actually earnt one.

  • I got some great warehouse deals. My best about 6 years ago, it was some combination of deals where, after I'd sold multiple copies of the same game, ended up leaving me with a $190 or so Xbox One S.

  • There's definitely some good ones above that I'm reminded of and also missed and had no idea. Speaking of glitches, I remember there was a glitch for Krispy Kreme online during a promotion where you could get like 3 dozens for $20 etc instead of the usual $12 per dozen.

  • +1

Some of the best deals i recall:

When TWH live chat was ran by a Philippines staff, you could abuse the price matching system. I recall getting some unreal deals.

Waitomo spin to win of course, filled up friends + family members cars.

1day $5 coupons, with minimum $5.01 spend + free shipping

Skinny $20 top up voucher for $12 @countdown - stacked up $400 worth onto my account!

The classic countdown $20 & $30 off an $100 spend code - we would do our orders whilst walking around the store, find items that were out of stock, add to our order and would end up getting half of the order refunded + the $30 off the total.

BOGO 50% off on lego at TWH - returned the full price sets. However i think this has since been patched.

Repco $5 polisher clearance deal, managed to click and collect my one!

RM Williams boots for $169 from hype dc nz, sold on trademe for $350+

    • +2

Oh yeah forgot about the "1day $5 coupons, with minimum $5.01 spend + free shipping" , would have placed 20+ orders for this.

      • +1

I placed 12 orders then was unable to place any more. Limited I guess. But they canceled them all and fed me "all out of stock" .
But eventually got an apology and explanation that it wasn't supposed to be repeatable.12 items for 12 cents was pretty incredible. Was just annoyed at the time it took to place 12 individual orders and no reward

  • I remember the Star Wars Simon games which stacked with another promo at the Warehouse with the Star Wars Trivial Pursuit game.

You could get 1 x Star Wars Trivial Pursuit + 2 x Star Wars Simon games for $25

  • Hmm this is a tough one. Purely $ wise, probably Dominos coupons back when they were scraped or the BOGO Burgerfuel on demand.

  • +7

$5 off $5.01 spend at The Warehouse

      Good times

  • +1

Just remembered the delivereasy $15 TAB Superbowl codes. Those were mental - we ordered so much free food. Eventually delivereasy caught on and started cancelling our orders manually.

    • Yeah, i remember those free sides on order from hells and being able add those mixed platters for free. Was great

  • KFC 6 and shout was pretty generous early on. You could also duplicate every code by ordering in person and then via online order.
