12% off Sitewide (20% off via Referral) @ Chipolo (Bluetooth Trackers)

GET12

Apple Airtag competitor.

New Product pre order compatible with android "Find my device".

I own the Chipolo One and it is an excellent "in range" tracker, helps a lot when my kids play with my things.. or more likely I leave them lying around. I may soon be upgrading to the point products…

The card product is very small and thin, but non replaceable battery (deal breaker for me).

Also worth noting that their is likely to be a google owned 'nest' product launch at some point in the near future.

  • Chipolo ONE Point $55 - 12% off by code - 20% off by referral
  • Chipolo Card Point $59 - 12% off by code - 20% off by referal
  • Chipolo Point Bundle (4xOne Point) $145 - 12% off by code - 20% off by referral

I recommend the Point bundle at $132 discounted, the trackers have replaceable battery and are relatively small so can fit in a coin pouch of a wallet.

Free shipping with $50 spend.

edited: changed code from 10% to 12% thanks Wakrak

    12% off GET12

  • I have the card one, pulled it out of my wallet the other day to find the corner snapped off! Still works though

    • I have one also, yeah first thing I thought was that it seems breakable. The round product seems much sturdier. Alot less obvious for thief than an airtag too, just looks like an rfid tag.

    Just ordered one thanks 👍

  • should be "Referrer gets free Chipolo after referring 3 customers who make a purchase"

    • That makes a bit more sense.

Worth clarifying the Find My tags do not have the precision tracking you see in the Apple AirTag.

    • +1

And AirTags cost about the same as the Chipolo ONE

    • I believe the nest model will have ultra wide band support but currently the products and feature set on android is not known.

  • Do these require the Find My Device app to be running in order to update the location of the tags? I have a Tile tag and I have to run the Tile app with Bluetooth and location enabled in order to update the location of the tag, which is annoying. The Tile app drains battery quickly as well.

    • No, Find My operates in the background, and all Apple devices contribute to the Find My network.

      • I was referring to the Find My Device app on Android. It is an app that you download from the Play Store.

    • I believe the process will be implemented as a part of androids constant surveillance and reporting of nearby devices/locations/mac addresses to google. could be wrong though.

But what does that mean in terms of implementation?

Typically, the way these tags work is something like this:

        1. Pair tag to phone via bluetooth
        2. Keep the phone's bluetooth and location enabled at all times (drains battery). This is required in order for the phone to know where the tag is (via bluetooth connection) and to also update the location of the tag (hence why location needs to be enabled). The tag itself doesn't have a location/GPS tracker, hence why these things always tether to a phone.
        3. In order for the phone to update the location of the tag, it needs to use some sort of app. With Tile, they have their own app that you can download on iOS or Android. Even the classic version of the Chipolo tag has its own dedicated Chipolo app for this.

The Chipolo One Point tag is designed to work specifically with Android's "Find My Device" app and it utilizes Android's backbone Find My Device network. The question here is, does the Find My Device app need to be running at all times, in order to update the location of the tag? On their website, it says you just need Google Play Services installed, which comes by default on Android devices. This isn't an app, it's more of a OS level package. So if it really only needs Google Play Services and nothing else for the tag to work, then that's great. However, I doubt that's the case and I see references to the Find My Device app as well. If the app is somehow closed or terminated in the background, then it would fail to update the tag's location.

At the moment, I have a couple of Tiles and I can replace the batteries on them easily. I'm having to use the Tile app to update the location of the tags and that's fine. But the app sucks and it drains battery, so I've got an automation that will automatically turn on/off the bluetooth and location AND the Tile app depending on conditions (e.g. if I'm out or not). Depending on how well the Chipolo One Point works, I might replace my Tiles with this.

Anyway, I've sent an email to the Chipolo team to get some answers.

  • Are they better than Tiles that don't let you know you've left them behind 10 minutes later?

    • never used these so i cant compare but this product can…
it can notify you by the app if its disconnected, being a bluetooth device you have like 10-60m.
it has a speaker you can call 120db if reachable, and a changeable battery.

    • I seem to get then notifications regularly, but cannot compare, I never brought tiles because of the old subscription business model.
