Or code Mc10 to the market for extra 10%

  • Like @Wakrak pointed out, the other retailers have an objectively better deal (especially Harvey Norman if you use the gem visa deal). With those other retailers (and NL) you can also probably go in store and negotiate a discount on the delivery and/or a wall mount if you’re after one too. That would edge out the market 10% discount by a good margin if you’re not interested in a switch but also have a use for vouchers going forward.

I would recommend getting the s95b at this price point if your budget can stretch the $3500 without delivery (after vouchers) It’s by no doubt a better TV even without Dolby Vision support.

And the way TV prices are going this year, Black Friday should be a good one - for comparison I think this price is already well below what the C1 was at this time last year. I got my one for $3800 after vouchers from NL (with the mount discounted $80 and half price delivery) this time last year.

    • with the introduction of QD OLED, LG isn't considered the top performer anymore hence they are pricing the C2 accordingly.

      competition is good.

The EVO panels are still good, but I think we’re getting lucky Samsung screwed their strategy. Sony is still charging a hefty premium for their a95k range vs their LG sourced OLED ranges which makes sense given it is a new technology with proven benefits but also all the additional features and benefits (notably a heatsink) but they are also lacking on the HDMI 2.1 front and gaming features (no 4K 120hz with DV) which is something LG excels on.
We’re lucky in the sense that Samsung are still in essence contacted to buy and sell QLEDs for another 2 years at least, so they don’t want to come out and say their new s95b is the real flagship - this is why the pricing is in line with the qn90b but below the qn95b, but also why you see piss all marketing about the s95b. Shit half the stores I visit have it sitting in the corner while the main Samsung stand is showing off the useless 8k or frame TVs.

Problem also is that the G2 is meant to compete with the a95k and s95b but the G2 is exclusively sold through Harvey Norman and you’re paying a premium for the flush mounting system.

        • How is s95b better but it doesn't have DV?

          • +1

@brownie1: It still has HDR (also HDR 10+ but its not as widely adopted) - anything that has DV will just scale back to HDR.
You're honestly not going to know the difference between standard HDR and Dolby Vision unless you're doing a frame by frame comparison. The difference is even less if you're watching on a streaming app vs a blu ray.

The S95B outperforms the C2 in terms of color volume (it has a wider gamut so displays more colour) as well as being brighter. Higher brightness makes more of an impact for HDR/DV content - why is why the G2 is a lot better than the C2, it's simply just brighter so highlights pop more.

            • @Vish: To me it also seems like the LG just slapped a beefier heatsink in the tv and ramped up the brightness over the C1. An overclocked C1?
Might be a bit of a simplistic/ignorant view though.

              • @Foodie: That's basically it - the C2 doesn't have a heatsink whereas the G2 does and they designed the G2 to be flush mounted whereas the C2 is quite an ugly thing on a wall mount.
With the heatsink it lets them crank up the brightness and not have to worry about image retention / burn in.

It sounds like it's such a simple difference and that it wouldn't make that much of a difference when using it, but the G2 is a lot better due to this. The only downside is the price premium which isn't worth it to most people considering how much cheaper the C2 is. This is why the S95b is such good value even without DV support.

            • @Vish: Fair enough but I will definitely miss that "Dolby Vision" pop up at the start lol I somehow psychologically feel better about having that DV popping up and telling me I'm getting a superior viewing experience lol

              • @brownie1: @brownie1 oath, nothing is more satisfying than having the dolby vision and dolby atmos signs pop up. I don't get the atmos popup anymore even though I'm using an atmos sound system through my AVR and boy do I miss that =[

                • @Vish: Haha yea, my audio system still shows Atmos luckily.. Such a shame HDR10+ isn't used much at all

                  • @brownie1: @brownie1 damn lucky! I have to find the AVR remote and press like 5 buttons just to see the Atmos sign on the small screen just to satisfy myself that its all working as intended.

Honestly it's kind of a good thing that HDR10+ is going to die, DV is superior anyways, but the labelling of HDR10+ standards is just yikes. Samsung have gone to town on all the marketing terms and it makes it so hard to get a proper comparison (HDR x24, HDRx32, HDR400, HRDINSERTRANDOM#HERE)

    • Same, I got my 65" C1 last year for close to 3800 from HN with free delivery.

  • If only the the 77" and 83" models had significant price drops aswell…

    • Less competition in those size ranges so you’re unlikely to see the prices fall that far from last year compared to the 65”. I’m pretty sure $6.9k was lower than the 77 c1 this time last year so I’m hopefully the 77 c2 could go for $6.3k or so during Black Friday (then add a cheeky market club discount and you’re golden)

I also heard from the guy I chat with at Noel Leeming that stock on the bigger models has been low all year but they’re expecting a lot more by Black Friday so could see a good deal there to shift inventory.

      • Hopefully with the arrival of larger QD-OLEDs next year will mean the prices of the 77 and 83 OLEDs will drop. 🙏
