  • So for those uneducated(me) in a smart watch at this eye watering price why would I as a tennis player, skier, occasional bike rider and somewhat interested in the high/low heart rate of the day get this over the huwai band 6 currently strapped to my wrist.

If you're only interested in the heart rate then the Garmin Fenix range is overkill. The Fenix range can track sleep, stress, GPS with maps and routing, and dozens of sport specific activity profiles.

I don't know what the Huawei Band 6 is capable of, but here's a comparison of the Garmin Fenxi vs a more basic Garmin Venu Sq to showcase the features: https://buy.garmin.com/en-NZ/NZ/catalog/product/compareResul…

I have Huawei Band 6 and Garmin instinct Solar.
Band6 is what I wear 90% of the time. It is great as a day to day watch with some smart stuff and basic fitness tracking.
But Huawei ecosystem is a closed one. By that I mean, you cannot upload your stats to Strava or other third-party apps.
Band 6 don't have GPS, so out door activities will not have location tagging.

The Forerunner is a watch predominantly made for runners. It's a specialised watch and it depends whether you want a smartwatch for lifestyle or a fitness tracker.

Most smart watches have a tonne of features that I won't go into, features that the Garmin watches don't have, or that the Garmin watches don't do as well.

However, the Garmin watches are specially tailored to track exercise. Everything related to fitness is tracked, including GPS, but I am confident that Garmin does this better and more accurately than typical smart watches. It syncs well with all major fitness apps, which I don't use because the Garmin app that comes with the watch is the best.

However, as a casual runner the reason I prefer my Garmin 245 is the battery life. I wouldn't use or require all the features of a smart watch, but I'd have to deal with charging it every 1-2 days. The Garmin will last 1-2 weeks between charges depending on how much you use the GPS.

      Garmin is predominately sports/activity focussed.
It does that one task really well.

Likes of an iwatch etc do smart phone functions and integration better but the garmin is the go to for the actual activity part.

Select what you’re personally after situation.

Garmin is absolutely the go-to if you're a runner or into sports. The exercise tracking is second to none. 2+ week battery life is a bonus too. This is bloody cheap considering they're usually well over $1000. I paid $1500 for my Garmin Epix 2, no regrets at all. It's my most used device.
