Panasonic F-YWP33N Dehumidifier $796 delivered at The Market

30
11ELEVEN

This is the top Consumer magazine rated Dehumidifier (94/100). I've been keeping an eye on it for the last six months and hadn't seen it go below $998. It's on special at Noel Leeming for $888 and you can get it at The Market for an additional 11% off.

Previous historic low according to pricespy was $839 in 2019. I realise it's coming into summer so won't be as necessary for the next few months, but a great deal for the next winter ahead!

This is part of Singles' Day Sales for 2021.

Aren't Mitsubishi ones better? Those last at least a decade.

    • The highest rated Mitsubishi one on Consumer (I'm sure they haven't tested every model) is the Oasis MJ-E22VX-A1-W, with 71/100. But I've never owned one so can't speak from experience!

Never had a Panasonic (so can't speak to their reliability), but our Mitsubishi one has been going for 15+ years with no issues at all so far :D

Mitsubishi are ,made in Japan, whereas Panasonic are made in Taiwan.

We have had the Mitsubishi one and it's been going very strong for 3 years so far.

The Panasonic being made in Taiwan, I'm sure the quality is just as good as the Japanese Mitsubishi.

Mitsubishi has always been air conditioning and refrigeration experts, so getting one over the Panasonic is a no-brainer. Still $800 is a bit too much to pay for a dehumidifer, IMO get a used one on Trademe instead.

    One quick word of advice:
These dehumidifiers are condenser type. Depending on where you are it may be a good fit for you. If you are in SI where winter temperatures are low, may be a desiccant dehumidifier will be the better choice. A simple rule of thumb is that if you want to remove moisture in warm and humid weather, the condenser based ones are the best. They are more efficient when the ingress air is much warmer. They also cools down the egress air. This is not very nice if you are running it in cold winter days.
Most of the heat pumps do contain a condenser based dehumidifiers mode. Make sure they are properly plumbed to expel the collected water.
How do I know these? I used to have a condenser based dehumidifier for my house in Chch and realised it was not doing a great job. Then I replaced it a desiccant dehumidifier(Dimplex one), and it performed significantly better.

    • This was a very interesting read - thanks! Which dessicant one do you have, and would you reccommend?

What is the energy efficiency like between condenser/desiccant?

    • Yep otherwise you have to pair with a heater, so you raise the room air temp (such that it can hold more water), before running over the dehumidifier cooling coils.

  • I have a 2nd hand delongji for 15 years that cost $40. What the hell is this one doing for $1000? Fools and their money…

The goldair gd330 works pretty good for SI. Comes on sale at briscoes quite often. Do price match for a cheaper deal

I have a lightly used Panasonic FCL-Y27N and it is a beast at removing moisture - though some of its logic makes no sense. You can't manually select a humidity threshold and instead have to rely on its high/low/auto/mild settings. If on mild it stays below threshold (60% I think) for too long the unit completely turns off rather than waiting.

I also have a Mitsubishi 16L and both The Warehouse Living and Co dehumidifiers across two households. They are all running well and the Living and Co units are surprisingly good for their price. Also summer time keep an eye on FB/Trademe for cheap deals since there's no demand for dehumidifiers right now :)

People are saying way pay 1000 bucks for this one . I have few dehumidifier as well .
This one is one of the most efficient ones ie power to amount of moisture it can pull .
Cheaper ones take in more power and don't pull as much of moisture with a exception of very few .
This one is also silent or similar to mitsubishi.
Nanoe is a very functional air purifier .you can get this function on many Toyota cars
