Part of CSC Buying Group which is a non-for-profit that helps businesses reduce cost.

Fellow member NZSkiBum showed us how to get CSC discounts on NL without being a member.

There are two account types: Main & Premium, which aren't equal. Main tends to come out on top (for products I focus on) but not always.

Picked up a 2021 Sony OLED TV in the weekend using a similar Friends & Family (Cost+X%) deal through the local school. Discount was about 20% off current retail.

Both CSC Main and Premium were showing as being about $25-30 more.

Pro-tip: Ask how much it'll be if you pay by EFTPOS. The original price they quoted was for paying by credit card (with those included credit card fees), by paying with EFTPOS we got another $70 or so off.

      That's a nice tip…👌

    • Which tv did you buy? Looking at Sony myself atm

      • We went for the 55" A80J.

Crack up, was seriously looking for an MX Master 3 mouse, which is on sale elsewhere around the $150 mark, and here it is at $165 on super family deal status…

😄 happens heaps with Noel Leeming. Think you find a mean deal with the secret discounts then see it's the same price or cheaper at JB Hi-Fi, Briscoes etc.

      $139 at jbhifi

      • Damn, got one less than a week ago from PB Tech for $150.

Looking at the MX Keys keyboard now to go with it. Got one on order from Amazon for $185, tax / shipping inc.

      • Thanks man.

Makes a mockery of the special family deal concept, at cost + 5% etc.

That's dodgy level max advertising right there.

        • $165 isn't the special family deal price. It could be cheaper than $165 or not but you'll have to go in store to get that price.

The $165 price is the CSC pricing which is different.

          • @Stoic: It has the MX Master 3 price in the brochure at $162.

            • @venomin: Oh right.

              • @Stoic: Yep it’s fully advertised.

Tried online price match to jb hifi but they said it wasn’t in stock so wouldn’t.

Purchased from JB instead then, and got email shortly afterwards saying it had been sent already.

                JB had $1.50 postage too.

    • wow, this get a lot more expensive this year, i am quite sure i got this at around 70 dollars last year

      • Yes, I got one for $65 last year

        • Wow where did you guys get it for so cheap? I've been tracking it on Pricespy for over a year and it's never gone that low?

  • Anyone know why you can't use purplevisa with CSC group purchases?

    • Purple costs them an integer percentage of the total. It's quiet a bit

  • Does anyone know what cost + x% means? Is it just x% off the retail price?

    • +1

It means their cost price (price they bought from the suppliers) plus an x% of margin added on top.

      • So in this case lower % would be better (cheaper) right?

        • Yes

    • From the T&C's…

Average cost reflects the average price of the product including any administration and handling costs, and does include any volume
related adjustments which may apply and GST. ^Price is based on average cost as at 22/05/2021 and may vary slightly due to average cost fluctuations

Plenty of wriggle room in there on what cost really is.

      • its not pure cost. as it includes some overheads so it probably results in pricing similar to promo pricing just in an indirect way.

  • Does anyone have any insight on what markups on whiteware are?
Looking at a Samsung front load washing machine. I don't expect it'd be a great discount vs Harvey Norman etc but interested in insights.

    • Not sure on the markups, but HN will do better matching on the price and they have better warranty if you plan on getting extended warranty.

  • I recall that 20%off a lot of whitewear was often a sale they ran. Not sure how often they run these promos these days

  • Would that apply to razer mouse and keyboard?

    Thanks

  • What is cost+5% of a Samsung TV? If it's on the website for $4k what is a reasonable estimate as to discount?

    • 65q70 is around 3800 full rrp and roughly 2889 at cost + 5 with them. For 2021 I think TVs are more expensive overall, maybe thirty percent markup for rrp for a lot of expensive stuff. (Based on the odd sales and folks ive talked to)

  • Be careful with the cost + x% deals.
For a start "cost" is not defined, it is NOT just the price they buy at, it adds on costs for floor space, lighting, rates, wages, etc. This means "cost" is what it has cost the company on average to sell a product over the last month.

I get cost + 10%, but I regularly get better deals buying "retail" at other stores.

As always, shop around and ask if they will price match, someone else "cost+10%" could be much cheaper because of lower overheads.
