User-Submitted Referral Code Updates (Request Referral System Additions/Changes)

This is a slightly edited cross post from the same OzBargain thread, the dates and time frames will be wrong, but the purpose is still the same.

This morning we pushed out a new user-submitted referral changes. This is an update to the previous attempt a year and half ago. Problem with the previous one is that it's difficult to add new stores that support referral benefits, and the feature ended up only supporting GreenManGaming and not being used much by our users here. What happened afterwards were wiki pages created for each online shop. Yes it's an interesting use of the wiki pages, but

Not a good idea to let any member to be able to edit everyone's code.
Free-form might not be the most ideal format, and hard to police everyone to edit in the same format.

The list is ordered rather than randomised.

What we have done now is having a single place for you to put in all your referral codes. Go to your Settings page and click on the referrals tab. You should be presented with a list of "stores" that we currently have referral support.

See full updated list.

New ones should be easily added as well if the method of referral is via a referral link (i.e. unique URL per referrer). Feel free to submit new ones in the comments. I need

  • The URL format for the referral link
  • Instructions to get the referral link
  • Benefit for the referrers and referees.
  • Another reminder that Affiliate Links and Referral Links are different and we do not allow affiliate links here on OzBargain.

Once a referral system has been set up for that domain, for every deal posted to that domain, a grey box will appear below the content and above the Share buttons containing a randomised referral link AND OP's referral link (if OP has submitted one for that domain and the deal has hit the front page vote minimum - updated 9/5/16). The benefits for the referrers and referees are also shown so people know what they (and you) are getting. In this case including your own referral link and link to wiki becomes redundant.

Yes this is still in beta and needs improvement. Some potential issues / possible improvements:

Since you do not really need to put referral link in your content, you can submit deals with your link in the referral box without the deal being marked as "referral post". This might lead to abuse of people posting excessive deals from the stores offering referral. I shall look at ways to prevent it. I don't want to mark them as referral post at the moment because previously submitter can pick and choose whether to include his/her referral link. Now it's always included. Your deal must hit the front page vote minimum to show.

A good idea to let people pick and choose? For example some people might not want to use OP's referral link, not a random one either but from a list of friends.

So here it is. Give it a try guys! I will start removing some of the wiki pages later today. Meanwhile, please leave feedback in the comments.

As of today, the system will no longer show OP's referral link in the referral block when the deal reaches the front page, but the OP's link will have a higher chance of being picked from the random pool. See updated help page.

Update

Request a store to add to the referral system. Let us know if it's a code/link etc. We also need to know what the referrer and referee gets. Thanks.

If your comment is automatically unpublished due to the referral link, do not worry, moderators can still see it and will republish it before replying.

  • Merged from Refferal Codes Not Working

Unsure if Quic has changed the format used for the referral codes, but the URLs given by the Cheapies system don't seem to work. However entering a refferral code I found on a different forum at the shopping cart page seems to work.

    • Changed referral type from URL to Coupon code type.

      https://www.cheapies.nz/deals/quic.nz

      • Now that I've signed up to Quic I am unsure if the URL was incorrect.

On my account page there are two referral codes:

-The URL which gives $50 credit to me for anyone signing up with it
-The coupon code (which has a different code to the url) which states if I share it to my referrals they will get $29 setup fee waived)

So the question then is: does using the coupon code give the referee $50 credit? If not, and the URL has to be used, does the coupon code need to match the URL used (i.e. be from the same person)

And to top it all off I wonder if the URL referral links even work. When used there is no acknowledgement of them and since they don't waive the setup fee it's kinda hard to tell…

        • I've tested the referral links both on cheapies and from a different forum Geekzone. Clicking on the referral links e.g https://account.quic.nz/refer/12345 simply redirects me to the quic homepage without any acknowledgement that I used a referral link.

I wasn't able to find any information whether Quic is still running the $50 referral campaign or not

Since I don't live in New Zealand it's not possible for me to sign up for real, but what I'll do is enable both types of referrals in case it is still running.

  • Getting an invalid format error when trying to save my Starlink referral code. Any ideas of what I need to change in the cut and paste from my account?

    https://www.starlink.com/residential?referral=RC-xxxxxx-xxxx…

    • The regex rule has been updated so please try entering again.

  • Orbit Remit could be added

The URL format for the referral link: https://orbitremit.com/r/[code]
Instructions to get the referral link: Referral code available by clicking on My Referrals on https://transfers.orbitremit.com/rewards
Benefit for the referrers and referees: For every friend you refer, who completes a successful transfer, both you and your friend will receive a $15 coupon to use on your next transfer. As an extra incentive, your friend will also get their first transfer fee-free.

  • Please update the referral for tiger brokers. It is now $50 for both the referee and the referrer and with a new link in the format:

    https://www.tigerbrokers.nz/activity/forapp/welcome/invited-…

    • Tiger Brokers updated

    • Regex rules for Starlink updated, now it accepts either the old referral format & new one.

      • Works now. Thank you

  • Hi, can we please get Yoto Australia added. I have made a post with a welcome sale and they have a good referral system in place also.

Referee gets 10% off 1st purchase (min. $99 spend). Referrer gets 1500 tokens (worth $15) per order.

    Format https://prz.io/{referralcode}

  • Not sure it's just for my account.
Doordash referral used to be something like $45 each way.
Now it says: "Give $5, Get $5
Get $5 in credits when someone signs up using your referral link and places their first order over $15. Your friend also gets $5 off ($5 off each of their first 1 orders)."

    • There appears to be 2 offers after checking a few links in the referral system

Referee gets $10 off first 2 orders over $20 or $5 off 1st order over $15.

      Have updated.

  • Hi, it looks like the MyProtein format isn't working at the moment. It looks the same, but I'm getting an invalid code when I try to enter it
    https://nz.myprotein.com/referrals.list?applyCode=xxxx-xxxx

    • Fixed.

  • Shopback.com.au referral format changed.

    https://app.shopback.com/{code}

    • See instructions:

Open the Referral Page on Shopback's site and copy the https://app.shopback.com/… link. Paste the link into a new tab which will unshorten to https://www.shopback.com.au/signup-referred?showsignup=true&raf=[CODE]&_branch_match_id=xxx. Copy the CODE in the final URL.
Do not use the code on the app.shopback.com URL as that code changes and is not your actual referral code.

  • Zenni Optical referral format no longer works:
    http://rwrd.io/{CODE}?c

    • Updated.

  • can you please add https://myhost.nz referral? format https://secure.myhost.nz/refer/{number}

    • Hi atoms,

I've been looking at local options recently - I found MyHost.NZ to be pretty expensive compared to some other players in the local market (ZappieHost for example).

To get at least 2GB RAM, was around NZ$60 / month when I looked, whereas ZappieHost was around NZ$22 but maybe I missed something?

Does a referral make a significant ongoing difference to their pricing?

      Thanks,

      Alan.

NB: I realise you can get cheaper options overseas, but I was looking for someone with a VPS based in NZ, and preferably Auckland, min 2vCPUs / 2GB RAM / 30 GB disk space.

      • not sure but they are the cheapest for co.nz domains but please correct me if I'm wrong.

        • Even for domains, they are not the cheapest at $25.95 pa.

I haven't done any kind of comprehensive search, but DomainsDirect are $24.75 pa - there could well be others less than that, but I don't really do many domain registrations, so I am not up to speed on who is the cheapest in the NZ market.

I believe both of those are inclusive of GST, but maybe I am wrong.

Interesting that DomainsDirect and MyHost appear to have some relationship - purely going on the fact that DD appear to refer hosting to MyHost.

Also, looks like you can get 6 months free hosting on MyHost via DD. I'm guessing you'd have to sign up for at least a year to get that, which still makes them quite expensive overall ($60 x 12 / 2 = $360 pa) vs ($22 x 12 = $264) with ZappieHost.

    • What are the benefits?

      • $20 account credits

        • For the referrer and referee?
