  • How are people's OLEDs holding up now that it's been a few years of mainstream adoption?

I see lots of burn-in on the used ones on TradeMe, is that still a problem? How many years does it take?

I have a Panasonic GZ1000 from 2020 and a LG C1 from 2022. I have used both for a lot of gaming (console and the C1 via a PC) and tv streaming. Neither have any burn in. Most of them have protection against burn in via software. I'm sure it is still possible to get burn in from watching channels with static information all day, but it's nothing like it was from the early OLED days.

    • 19996 hours on my LG CX that I mainly use as a PC monitor, and the only burn in is a couple of little spots along the top of the screen from Youtube icons on tabs that're open in Microsoft Edge as I usually have Youtube playing in the background as I'm working. I didn't realize there was burn in until out of curiosity I ran a burn in test on the tv last year, and even now that I know where the spots are I still don't notice them with normal use unless there's a solid blue background then I'll see them because I know where to look.

I think for most use cases burn in is a non issue nowadays.

    • I got a cx without burn in.

    • LG C1 with 18559hrs no burn in, always using vivid setting.

    • Around 4000 hours on my Aorus FO48U and no sign of burn in, it has been amazing for gaming etc.

I worked at noel leeming for a few years in there, left around C3 times. Quite rare to see burn in issues coming back into store.

The old c9s didn't hold up well but the newer stuff seemed fine

  • C2 with over 4000hrs of use. No obvious burn in. Not much gaming use, but probably about half of that use is watching HDR TV shows.

Are soundbars good, like this jbl? Will bluey sound immense?

  • LG OLED B8 bought April 2019 17203 hrs still flawless used for a lot of mindless TV and a lot of ps4/ps5.

Would rank it the best use of money in my lifetime. Or the house, the rebuild version :)

LG C2, no issues with use, but had burn in from afternoon sun hitting corner of screen.
As soon as i noticed i ran the screen care software and it fixed it up.
Now im more careful and pull the curtain earlier to block the pesky sun at certain times of year.

  • I have a 2019 Panasonic 65" OLED that I bought in 2020. Loved it. No burn in.

HOWEVER….it has very recently developed a single white line down the left hand side of the screen (about mid way between the center and the left edge). It's very annoying. It'll stick around for a few days - but then disappear all on its own for a few days - and then come back. I'm quite sad as I really liked this TV (especially the multitude of customisation settings in the menu). But no more Panasonic in NZ :(

  • LG C2 5000hours no issues at all

Anyone here can comment on Talk Is Cheap as a retailer? First time I've seen them, are they legit?

    • +4

totally legit - essentially its Spark - bought things off them before with no issues.

    • +1

Yes, I purchased a couple of OLED TVs from them around a year ago. Delivery was quick and items were exactly as described.

Don't let the ai slop fool you! They're legit
