does anyone have some feedback on this headphone? Sonos must be struggling to drop this kind of bargain.

The most recent software update supposedly brings them on par with the Airpods Max and Sony XM6's

      • +1

thanks, tbh their software is my biggest worry. They are just not too good in that department lately lol.

I can attest that these are phenomenal headphones! And I do have a much beloved Sony WH-1000XM3 - these beat them. If musicality and sound clarity is what you are after, these rock.

    • I mean, XM3 came out more than 6 years ago, it's not that hard to beat old tech.

Can the Sonos website pricematch? Or most likely have sale on BF?

    • Sonos now have their BF sale up, but not as good a discount; $449. :(

  • Excellent price! I paid this for a secondhand set not long ago.

How do these compare to xm6?

    Seems like its "old" tech?

    • +4

I'll let you know tomorrow when I pick these up. My wife has the XM6's so I can do a direct side by side comparison.

      • +1

        very curious, and thank you!

  • These headphones are phenomenal and an absolute steal. The build quality is superb compared to Bose and Sony XMs which are mostly made of plastic. If you are already in a Sonos ecosystem these provide an exceptional value as you can seamlessly switch between headphones and a speaker system (if you have Arc + surrounds). I already have one, but I am buying another pair for a back-up.

    • How do these compare to the Sony xm5 or 6?

    • +1

There is a reason Bose and Sony are made out of plastic -weight. They are designed to be carried around and worn for long flights etc.

      • The sonos are 72g heavier than Sony?

But then you've got to buy from Harvey Norman

      • True but easier to price match. Also Magnum looks like they've sold out.

    My 2cents:

    • XM6 has stronger ANC, is foldable (which makes them portable, something I thought I wouldn't care about with my XM5 but boy was I wrong).
    • XM6 has better mic so it's good for work meetings over Teams or whatever.
    • Sonos seems a bit more comfortable and works well with Sonos soundbar as it ties into their ecosystem

Personally, I'd go for the XM6 just because it's more versatile and useable for most situations. I care a lot about ANC, so Sony wins this one easily. However, I also have the Technics AZ100 and WF-1000XM5 and those are good enough for ANC for when I'm travelling. If you don't really need to take the headphones anywhere and mostly use them at home, then go for the Sonos and switch to an earbud for travel if that works for you.

    • Fantastic feedback, exactly the kind I am looking for. I have a Sonos soundbar but a crappy mic is a deal breaker if I can't use these for meetings.

      • Not sure what your budget is, but you could just get a dedicated microphone to solve this issue.

I've tried various setups, from using wireless mics (Boya Boyalink - https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/MICBYA2010/Boya-BOYALINK-Wi…) to using popular desktop microphones like Blue Yeti, Rode, etc. I've spent probably over $2000+ on these things.

Currently, I've got a boom arm with my microphone attached to it. The boom arm is secured to my standing desk and it can rotate in multiple different configurations. I can compact the boom arm if I want to, which takes up very little space. The microphone is configured as supercardioid, so it only picks up sound from one direction. I don't even need to move it close to my mouth for it to pickup sound, which is great. During summer, I don't like to wear my headphones (as it gets hot around my ears) and so I use my desktop microphone + bluetooth speakers (sitting on my standing desk) for meetings. The microphone generally ignores the sound from the speakers, so it only hears my voice.

If however I'm in a meeting and I want to cook or do something else (maybe take a #2 lol), then I can just take my Boya Boyalink with me and clip it to my shirt. I can wirelessly mute/unmute and keep talking in the meeting via Teams on my desktop PC. It's great because it means I don't have to switch to Teams on my phone and hold it or use another bluetooth earbud to talk. The sound coming from others would just be blasted via my bluetooth speakers around the house.

Right now, I've yet to test this JBL desktop microphone that I bought recently, worth about $50. It's a supercardioid microphone with a physical mute/unmute button, with lighting to show the current mute status. It's similar to my Razer Seiren V3 Chroma microphone. I need to test that and see how well it performs compared to my high-end microphones.

To be honest, I don't really care for the microphone that much. I prefer focusing on music quality and ANC when it comes to earbuds or headsets.

        • I love the idea of not having to even use my airpods. Everything was perfect until work decided to give me a PC instead of a mac. Airpods integrate so perfectly across all my personal and work mac devices and I was very happy with it.

If you have a Razer microphone and a Boyalink, don't you have to switch mic inputs from your device before walking away?

I can imagine myself investing into a good desktop microphone. I already have a edifier speaker. I like the ability to just listen to music and then answer adhoc calls from people without having to fiddle around with connecting any device. My current workaround is a permanently connected platronics headset. If I have scheduled meetings, it's always the airpod for comfort.

Originally I was thinking about airpods 4 ANC, or possibly a bluetooth headset.. Sounds like the ideal set up now is speaker/microphone for scheduled calls, and then switch to airpods if i have to walk around the house.

LOL I love the idea of having bluetooth speakers around the house. You must be living alone otherwise how would your partner tolerate that?!

Do you find that you tend to speak louder to the mic? I do that a lot if I am just talking to the computer or do calls in a meeting room in the office. Headsets feels closer so I will speak a little softer

          • @nate70s:

If you have a Razer microphone and a Boyalink, don't you have to switch mic inputs from your device before walking away?

Yes, but I have a script to do that automatically. I automate a lot of my routines. But even without it, it's just a quick easy manual switch, there are apps that you can use (on Windows) to right click the tray icon and select the microphone to use easily. Also, with Teams, you can easily go in the meeting window and select as well, it's not a big deal for me.

Do you find that you tend to speak louder to the mic?

Nope, because the mic pickup is really good and you can adjust the gain level too. I used to have a very good Audio Technica mic that I would use with a pop filter and I would place it relatively close to my mouth. People told me it sounds like a studio recording mic, it's that good. But I got annoyed having to move the boom arm close to my mouth. The mics I use now can be placed far away and they pick up really really well, which was surprising to me at first but now I'm used to it. Try the Roid mics, they can be placed on a desk or on a boom arm and they do a good job at picking up your voice. Note that you should try to get mics that's directional or supercardoid so that they don't pick up noises from other directions.

@NovaAlpha: On this note if you're using teams you can now give it a 30s sample of your voice and via AI it will filter out sounds that aren't you, both background and other people speaking.

              • @Jaxson: oh nice, it sounds like they're using something similar to Krisp or RTX Voice. Is that a free feature or part of a M365 Teams plan/addon? I'm guessing it's an additional license, as using AI to do that would cost them token usage.

            • @NovaAlpha: My company gives me a very locked down laptop so there isn't much I can do unless they are portable apps. I am happy to stick with switching mic input from Teams.

Let me know how you find the JBL mic. For $50 I'd be keen to see to invest to make a difference since I am in meetings all the time!

Now I am curious if you look into lighting and webcam as well :)

              • @nate70s: Yeah, the solutions I mentioned are portable. I wrote them myself, but that's only for Windows though.

I need to find them to test the JBL mic. I've got a lot of unopened packages recently, bought a new expensive KVM switch that allows me to switch separate monitors for separate devices (or use all monitors for one device) and still haven't got that setup yet.

For webcam, I don't really have a dedicated one. I just use my laptop's built-in one, which is good enough. Never really found a use-case for having a better webcam. In terms of lighting, what are you after? What's the specifics

                • @NovaAlpha: I was just thinking if anyone is using ring lights if it's truly better.

I did all my meetings today blasting the sound on my speaker while using airpod as mic. Seemed to work quite well, at least people didn't say they couldn't hear me or could hear echos lol.

    • ANC becomes less of an issue when listening to music, so kinda depends on your use case. If want to put on at work and drown out the noise alright you then ANC is very important and a good mic capability too, but if listening to music then sound quality becomes the top priority as even average noise cancelling is generally fine.

      • It’s all pretty subjective in the end. Everyone has different preferences when it comes to sound. Some people prefer Bose’s sound signature, others prefer Sony, and so on. Even ANC performance can feel subjective. After watching a bunch of reviews, it’s obvious that some reviewers will prefer the ANC on headphone A, while another thinks headphone B is better.

I used to own the WH-1000XM5 (which I disliked and eventually sold). Its ANC was noticeably worse than my XM4. Sony introduced adaptive ANC in the XM5, which constantly adjusts based on your environment. I personally want ANC fixed at the maximum level, not fluctuating or weakening. As far as I know, there’s no way to override this on the XM5, whereas on the XM3 and XM4 you could force maximum ANC. That’s what pushed me away from Sony and back to Bose.

With the XM5, I could hear office chatter and ambient noise far too easily and I’m sensitive to that kind of thing. It breaks my focus. And judging by Reddit and other forums, I’m not alone, a lot of people preferred the XM4 because of this. This was all before the XM6 released too. At the time, the XM5 was still considered a top ANC option, so having ANC that is “average” is not good enough to me.

Sure, I could just crank up the music to drown everything out, but I don’t want to wreck my ears. I keep my volume around 40% max. To me, strong ANC + 20–30% volume is a much healthier and better listening experience.

I also travel a bit, and good ANC makes a massive difference on flights. It cuts out engine noise very effectively.

And if I want actual sound quality, I use my ATH-AD2000X. For me, the purpose of ANC headphones is general use — especially in office environments or out and about. In those situations, solid ANC matters more because you can’t enjoy your music if unfiltered noise keeps bleeding through.

        • Totally agree. I'm a Sennheiser fan myself and run the M4s. I do wish the ANC was better for sure but when doing something on a plan, listening or watching a movie I find the ANC is actually good enough.

Waiting for an M5, or may try the new HDB 630 in 72 years when they go on sale.

I really wanted to like Bose but they just do not work for me at all sadly. Can I have their ANC with Sennheiser sound capabilities please?

Just got JBHF to price match as well.
