  • That is the cheapest the fast plan has been at for over a year, I think.
I am on the 50% off monthly faster plan and have 3 or 4 months left of the initial 12 months to renew or move.

    • +1

How do you find the faster plan for speeds when out and about for YouTube and streaming? Any issues with buffering?

      • +2

I have had no issues in towns/cities with streaming or YT, I do run players at default 720p.
I just tried 1080p at 2 times speed on a YT video for 1.20 and no buffering.

I have noticed buffering when traveling via rural areas, aka cell reception, or when in a location with a lot of cell traffic but day to day use in a large town/small city it is perfect for me.

Sometimes I even use it at home when moving around the house. I have 2 wifi access points as the walls tend to block the 2.5/5ghz bands.

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated! Also oof on the no short codes - Kogan finally sorted those out was hoping might ape would have been the same.

          • @Jaqqour: Don't assume. Alot of places don't actually charge for the short code reply, even though your phone will warn you about costs. Always just send it. I find very few don't work. And it's not like they can charge you if there is a cost.

And you've reminded me I have to go tomthe chemist :)

            • @LupinS: It was confirmed they don't work in the comment below this

    • Oh its only for new customers, rip.

I have to say, the no Short Codes has been the only pain in the ass with MM I have had on a semi regular basis.

      • Can't you start a new acc with new email? Unless porting your number is the main thing.

      • +4

There is a message under the product details that states:

        Already With Us?
This offer is only available to new customers – reach out to our Mighty Mobile team via Chat and we’ll see what we can do for you!

Might be worth asking to see if they will offer it to you?

      • +12

We will be looking after our current customers, if you contact us, we will organise that you will get the benefit.

      • +2

I am an existing customer with mighty mobile. I just contacted a support agent, who said they would offer this to me.

    • +1

This has been great for us. We were able to cut our home fibre, so works out similar to unlimited data everywhere we go, and slightly cheaper than fibre+mobile.

Some savings and no more thinking about how much data we use.

Also put in laws on it, because they had no concept of how much data they use, so they likely stream youtube everywhere they go for music, and end up spending all their prepay credit every few days.

  • +5

Added bonus that eSIM is available with this offer, unlike the Kogan plans.

  • +1

Hum. I was waiting for Kogan mobile's BF deal

    • Same! My Kogan plan ends mid December could be a hit and miss. I used to be with MM previously and no complaints.

    • This is a better deal right? Same price as Kogan's XL deal but Unlimited data

      • Depends on how much data you need

      • +2

I’m on the Kogan large and use about half of the 15GB, but I like the fact that with MM I don’t have to worry about the data cap in case I need it. Kinda worth it for the little extra per month. Got a little bit to decide if I take the plunge 😅

  • Does this work in a sim router?

    • Works for me

      • I am also interested in doing this as well. I am a fairly low user of internet (mostly email, web and a little YouTube). Thinking about cancelling my One NZ 4g connection and using the Mighty sim in the OneNZ modem. Do you think that would work?

    • Also works great in a cheap 5G Phone USB tethered to a cheap Fritzbox router
For gaming its about equivalent lag to VDSL, which is not to bad, but depends how far the nearest tower is for you

      • Wouldn't a spark modem 2(unsure about locked sims) or a b618 be more stable?

I do my gaming offline so don't care about ping

        • Spark Sim modems are locked to Spark I think

          • @Huntakillaz: I used a One NZ Sim in a Spark 4g modem a few years back - worked fine. But I assume they could tighten up on this?

          • @Huntakillaz: I believe the Spark SIM cards are locked to the modem, however you are free to change the simcard I have a MM working in a spark smart modem 3 I just had to change the APN value in the router ( APN = Internet for MM)

Go halvesies with a mate and replace your home broadband. Not like we ever get deals on fixed line broadband anymore.

  • I bought the Fast plan yesterday before this :( If I reached out to mightymobile do you think they could do anything?

    • Probably not but you have nothing to lose by asking.

    • +20

We will help you out, just contact us

    • I'm looking at the Fastest plan, would go half on that

        • keen to go halves on he faster plan

      • keen to go halves on he faster plan

    • +1

I'd be keen to go halves. I'll PM you

      • keen to go halves on he faster plan

  • Are there any rules around when this needs to be activated etc? Can also use ShopBack for 20% cashback.

    • +1

      In the terms:

SIM must be activated within 3 months from purchase, or the promotional offer may be forfeited.

    • (Sorry, plse check deeper into the Exclusions - T&C's etc on Cashback. I've checked that and no "Mighty Mobile plans are excluded from the higher (20%) levels, it's currently 1%", only !. :( ).

  • Maybe a noob question, so how would this work? It reads 2 x sims being sent so how would (for example) $20p/month for Faster work for 1 person? I've been watching these types of plans (Kogan etc) and part ready to make a move (especially with the eSim option!)

    • +2

You can't buy one plan on your own to get the deal - it's a buy one get one free.
So, in order to get the $20.79 per person per month on the Faster plan you referenced, two plans for a total of $499 need to be purchased.

You can either do this yourself and then sell the other plan (for $249.50) or go halves with someone else selling their half.

      • Ah understood! Thanks a lot for the explanation - appreciate it!

  • Wonder if this is better than some of the wireless internet plans? I'm on fiber but may consider switching to mobile plan or wireless internet plan to save a bit on costs. Thinking of using this:

Pretty sure some routers you can install a 5g USB stick in to use them as redundancy. I'd check if your router can do that as that might be far cheaper solution and more trustable than taking the risk on zte.

      • +1

What's wrong with ZTE? I did a bit of research and that's the recommendation on Reddit.

      • If you believe that sham of ZTE and Huawei being riskier than any other tech company, then I have a bridge to sell you. Haha

    • i use a android phone with usb tethering, connected to a usb-c Ethernet hub to charge it, then to a access point.

      • yeah but you're limited to the hardware of the phone, which isn't made for proper routing etc. If you're in a home full of concrete walls and you're getting a bad signal on your phone, that's no good. I'd much rather just get a decent SIM router that has proper terminal high gain antennas with better throughput etc.

        • i see what you mean, i got a Deco X80-5G with kogan at another site and the network speed is significantly less due to the brick walls.

  • +2

Which one (Fast, Faster, Fastest) would be equivalent to Kogan in terms of speed?

    • +1

Fastest. I just ran a Kogan speed test with 2 bar signal and got 150Mbps

    • Great question. Currently on Kogan until end Jan 2026 so wondering if I should jump on this or stick with Kogan. But also uncertain whether Kogan will have a nice deal coming up as their deals haven't been consistent recently.

      • Yeah - i agree, thinking the same thing. Unfortunately, 'if' Kogan do decide to do another BF deal it may not be until late Nov (after this deal expires)?

    • i get 331Mbps on 5g Kogan

  • +1

after buying how long do I have to activate them ?? have my kogna sim thats valid till jan

    • Within 3 months of purchase.

  • +1

sorry can someone clarify what no short codes mean? does this mean you can't get 2FA text messages to verify things like afterpay etc?

    • I think it means you can't reply to short codes, but you will still receive them.

      • thanks! ive never had a short code where i've had to reply so will probably be fine for my use!

  • Does anybody have any recommendations for a sim card router to use with this? Most of the ones wgich support 5g are upwards of $600 from what I can see, so I guess that means the data speeds would be limited to 4g speeds? Or would a cheap 5g phone connected to a router/repeater provide better speeds/bandwidth?

    • +1

depends how close you are to a tower and if there is not interference if you are going to usb ethernet to a router.
i use a tp-link deco with 5g for sim. there has been a few second hand ones from mobile providers online, i picked up a few 5g routers for $100 on facebook, they sell them cheap because it was given to them on a 12month plan.

here is an example of one i use
      https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/marketplace/computers/networking…

  • Anyone keen on going halves on the faster plan?

    • Have you found someone? I am interested

  • Are there any downsides to these providers (Kogan, MM etc)? Presumably they piggy back on one of the big boy's networks. Anything to consider other than saving megabucks compared to Spark?

    • +1

The big thing is the savings.
The downsides are customer service if you ever need it - everything is online so you can't talk to a real person.
You are also locked in for 365 days with these plans and you won't get a refund if you terminate early.
It comes down to what is important to you.

Kogan own Mighty Mobile so they are all part of the same parent company and use the One NZ network.
If you need/want eSIM then you can't use Kogan in NZ as they are physical SIM only. Mighty has both options though.
Roaming charges can be high, although a local SIM is usually a better option anyway if you are travelling.

  • Is anyone keen to share Faster Plans? Half and half? Thank you.

    • I am interested in the Faster Plan if you are still keen

  • has anyone done speed tests to check the actual speeds vs advertised? have kogan currently, tossing up renewing that or the "faster" plan but reading varied comments about speeds.

  • Looking to split a Mighty Mobile - Fastest plan!

    LMK if interested!

  • I've just moved from Kogin and my iMessages is not showing my number and I can see under my account that my number has fully been ported and I've restarted my phone multiple times with no luck. Anyone else is having the same issue?
