Just in time for all the iPhone 17 pre-orders.

I think the cheapie way is to look for all the early adopters offloading their current iPhones! Might be time to update my iPhone 11 lol!

To be honest I've stopped using TradeMe after discovering Facebook marketplace
It is one of the best decision I've made

Same. Zero fees and instant communication. Very easy to use too.

Trade Me still has its place for higher value items.

      Is this still available?

Would you trade for two rice crackers and a belligerent goldfish?

        • This!

      • Lmao

    • +3

      Last price?

    • Don't know why people still pay to sell or have to wait for free days. Yeah, there's a more secure payment system for Trademe but as long as you meet up and pay on the spot it shouldn't be an issue

Sale time is a big one, trademe is exposed to the whole country, FB is typically just browsed by locals. I don't set my search distance far as who wants to pay money to some fake name FB profile which many seem to be, not me. Being able to sell nationwide means sales happen faster and nearly always with less effort than FB, each to their own though.

I’ve used both TM and FB Marketplace heaps (for business and personal) and honestly there are a bunch of reasons TM is better.

Reach & selling speed: Marketplace is mostly local pickup. On TM you’ve got buyers from all over NZ, so stuff sells quicker. If it’s niche, you often get a better price too. I’ve seen items sit for weeks on FB that sell in days on TM.

Often I’ll find items that are dead on Marketplace and flip on eBay AU for 2x.

Extra exposure: If you’re in-trade, your TM listings can show on Google Shopping. I get a surprising number of “new” buyers this way - people clicking ads from a Google search.

Scam factor: Marketplace is full of timewasters and scammers. You can filter them out but it takes effort. On TM, for about 10% in fees (Ping included), you’re basically risk-free. Scams are rare, you can check feedback, and you can set auctions so only verified buyers can bid. And buyer’s very, very rarely back out of transactions, and they’re almost always easy to communicate with. There’s an incentive to maintain positive feedback.

Convenience: TM makes shipping easy. Book a Courier is cheap and they’ll pick it up, so you don’t even have to go to the PO. No strangers at your place, no meeting in carparks, no check for fake notes, counting and depositing your cash. No risk of getting jumped, or worse.

Post transaction support: Live chat support on TradeMe is pretty good. You can use them if you have any issues with the seller, if you need advice etc. In the situation that you have a difficult buyer, TM will do most of the work for you and work out a resolution (if it’s a Ping/AfterPay transaction).

So yeah, TM charges fees, but you save time, mental energy, sell faster, reach way more buyers, and it’s safer. It’s still dependent on what you’re selling and your own personal evaluation of what all of that is worth to you. But for most people, it’s worth it. It’s partly why eBay is so successful, even though they charge even higher fees (12-15%, in my experience).

I still use FB Marketplace, but 99% for buying now (arbitraging). I’m probably the 0.01% that shops on there internationally regularly..

          Why chatgpt?

          • +3

@justaddwater: I wrote like 8 paragraphs and it was a bit wordy and poorly structured so I asked ChatGPT to clean it up a bit. All of the content and key points are mine

            • @Liger Zero: Are your sales on ebay.com.au to nz or to aussies? If the latter how do you make shipping economical.

Agree book a courier is easy tonuse but thr prices have gone up a lot. Cheapest option is now $5.50

              • @n908671: So most of my stuff on eBay AU is fulfilled from WA to Australia-wide and internationally. The few items that I sell from NZ and ship internationally are very lightweight and small, so shipping is still relatively economical.

Try eShip via NZ Post, it's free and I've found the rates pretty good. Sometimes better than book a courier, except for larger parcels.

        • Is the live chat free and during certain hours? Never used it before.

          • @L3tstaxth1s: Yes it's free and available for everyone. Hours and instructions on this page.

Just click the little bubble to get started, and ask the chatbot to be transferred to a live agent ASAP.

  • Any tips how to get more than 10 views on a listing? Without paying for the extras - seems I get hardly any hits

    • Better photos, better title, lower price

sell something that people want to buy?

    • +1

I don’t know if this helps but I add a relevant keywords section at the end, to help with search SEO.

Good photos are important, ideally bright, even lighting with a plain background. Main photo should be clear and uncluttered, items appropriately framed.

  • Just want to check is this fee free till sold or until a relist?

    • +1

      Until a relist
