I had similar one a few years back. Started leaking inside within a year, got repaired twice each only last a few weeks. Then got a replacement which was another model as old one discontinued. About 15 months later all same issue came back.. I also had a chat with the technician from authorised repairer, apparently it’s fairly common issue with Samsung fridge. So maybe think twice before buying :)

    • Had same issue within a year of purchase, a technician came fixed it and removed a piece from back of fridge saying that piece could very slightly save my power bill but he reckon that was the cause for the leak/ice building up issue. Ever since then(touch wood), it hasn’t happen again for about two years.

  • We have a Samsung top and bottom f/freezer and it's been excellent and it's 7 years old.

    Avoid avoid avoid.

Samsung fridges are horrible and it’s my worst ever purchase.

All the plastic trims inside have cracked and they won’t have anything to do it, even if I mention CGA.

It’s totally put me off their product.

    • Agreed. Both my mum and myself using Samsung fridge and both had container broken easily. However, we had not used other brand. I am thinking to try Haier/Fisher & Paykel for my next fridge.

      • don't buy haier. just get the f&p, which will either be made by f&p in thailand or by haier in china (but at least to f&p specs and not haier's own).
f&p are pretty good all things told when going something goes wrong - whereas samsung are absolute trash. lg is far superior performance wise for whiteware over samsung.

        • Haier is quite a reputable branch in china, my parent has a whole kitchen custom made by them. Is there any reason why you would consider f&p over them? (Actual hands on)

          • +1

@Zyo: Haier owns f&p, so there is a relationship between the two. Know enough r&d engineers at f&p to understand how haier operates. They design and make to required spec (e..g eu regulations say it must be xyx so they design to xyz and nothing more). F&p engineers spend quite a bit of time at qingdao providing know-how to haier, and not the other way (I.e. haier use f&p as a quasi design centre of sorts and the new f&p location at penrose supports that)
Not to say f&p is perfect, ive had issues with our heatpump dryer but they run a smooth repairs operation (had them come 4 times). Trying to deal with samsung with samsung care or issues was a complete nightmare - over a dozen phone calls and 40 emails. Never again with samsung.

But if you want to know how well a French door fridge is made go into a shop and run your finger down between the french doors and see how consistent the gap is. That will tell you manufacturing tolerance levels

            • @Poppymocky: I currently own a Samsung double door and used to own a f&p french door(top of the line iridium model)

Both are okay models. The plastic trays are definitely more durable in F&P though.

I would also suggest avoiding Samsung appliances. Had a fridge die after six months but the worst part was dealing with Samsung after it died. Repair agent came around quick and said manufacturing issue and took fridge away and left a small loan fridge for the family. Despite local store having fridge in stock they wanted me to wait an unknown amount of time for fridge to be repaired. After 3 months begged for refund which I got and spent on a cheap trade depot fridge which we prefer. Lost a fridge and freezer worth of food worth $300 plus but in the end was just happy to get rid of the Samsung and move on.

  • Also recommend against Samsung. I had one from Farmers which cracked after 1 month, contacted Samsung directly and after weeks back and forth with them to no avail, they insisted the fault is only cosmetic, and then lied about not having replacement stock. Eventually Farmers took the fridge back and dealt with Samsung on my behalf.

    Go for Panasonic or Mitsubishi!
Fisher Paykel is alright but the quality starting to go downhill. Parts is cheaper though but labour is just the same with all

Next fridge I buy will be Japanese, ideally made in Japan.

Can't wait till the Samsung fridge finally dies as the interiod plastics have all fallen apart.

      • Unfortunately I think most of them are manufactured in like vietnam and thai, which it's a consequence of our own making, wanting cheaper products.. But knowing Japanese brands they will do everything to keep the customer's loyalty by having strong quality controls in place.

        • That's true, I think even majority of Japanese brands are not made in Japan but I believe some Mitsubishi are made in Japan… I went down a rabbit hole to look for one in case I need to replace the Samsung!

For example, I think this is actually made in Japan. https://garyanderson.co.nz/product/mitsubishi-four-drawer-wx…

          • @turtleattacks: I have a lot of Made in Japan products at home which are more than 30 years old. Even with brands which no longer exist like National which is now Panasonic. They were built to last! There are so many products that used to use metal gear and swapped to plastic gears in household items but often it overheats then gears break and more things break :(

I have one of these, I looked at so many different other fridges, and this one has some decent reviews, waited till Black Friday/Boxing day

@Saturdaysr4thedealz: I think that Mitsubishi will definitely be our next fridge! Love it!

My dad was actually an engineer for Sanyo Electronics in Japan during the 80's so grew up with a love for Japanese made products. (Plus I'm Taiwanese! So most of us love Japanese made goods)

  • Samsung fridge going strong after 1 year use. no complaints. individual batches will be the source of issues, no manufacturer specific.

lol just after one year ?

I have a large Westinghouse house still going strong 19 years

  • Have had this model (but with water dispenser) for a few years now. Still working well, and in any cases of warranty or CGA related to samsung products in the past i’ve had an easy and quick experience.

Guess i’m in the minority of this comment section recommending samsung products :)

  • Have a Samsung showcase fridge (ice n water) the plastic containers are trash and fragilebut overall pretty good fridges

  • Any thoughts on this dryer and washer combo? Really need something for a compact space

    https://www.samsung.com/nz/washers-and-dryers/washer-dryer-c…

And can someone help me calculate what it would cost with all the stacked codes 😊 TYIA!

      Yes, do not buy Samsung.

Look at all the comments here. It's not a coincidence.

If you are really set on buying Korean, buy LG.

      • Completely agree.

        Would also recommend Panasonic.
We've been using our Panasonic fridge for 3 years already now — no issues at all! 👍🏻 (Still in condition of a brand new one, frankly.)
Bought it at HN, delivered from Japan…

        Cheers!

    • I have this and like it fine, haven’t had any issues, owned over two years at this point. But I guess time will tell, this thread has put me off Samsung appliances generally now.

  • We also experienced issues with our Samsung, french door, fridge freezer leaking. A shame this offer is fora Samsung because we need to buy a new one an this would have been a good buy.

  • Same as others - we went through 3 samsung freezers in a year - everything lost each time. Eventually replaced with an LG which has hummed.

  • Seems to maybe be an issue with newer models? Personally only had good experiences with Samsung appliances. Was planning to purchase for the new home once built.

I own a 700mm wide Samsung fridge that we've had 5 years with no issues and parents have a 10 year old French door model with water/ice maker and no issues.

Had a Samsung dishwasher 4 years no issues sold with the house.

Front loader washer seal needed regular cleaning, no other issues.

Heatpump dryer stopped working and had a random tech out while waiting to hear back from Samsung (took them 3 days to send someone out). Random tech took an hour, said it was defective, bagged all over Samsung, said it was a write off and charged me for the pleasure. Samsung tech called the following day and had it fixed in 10 minutes. No charge even though outside warranty and has been working for another 2 years with no issues since.

Had issues with a new TV once and they sent techs out to replace the lcd in home at no charge.

  • Westinghouse still going strong 19 years now. Gifted it
