  • For the TV gurus out there, how does the LG OLED compare to the Samsung's?

    • The 55" OLED from Samsung costs more $2288
      https://www.noelleeming.co.nz/p/samsung-55-s90d-oled-4k-smar…
      Is it $400 beter?

      • +1

FYI. This year's S90D series is apparently a lottery with the panels whether you get a WOLED or QD-OLED. I ended up buying last year's 77" S90C earlier this year because they were definite QD-OLED panels.

    • The next model up LG C4 is more comparable to the Samsung S90D
      https://www.rtings.com/tv/tools/compare/lg-c4-oled-vs-samsun…

      • I've got S95D and the interface is pretty rubbish I'd say.

    • get the LG C4 if you can.

      • Samsung S90D is the better OLED, plus it's cheaper.

        • How does it process dolby vision content ? does it just display it in HDR10 standard ?

          • @Encounter Ekambaram: That's the one downside, it doesn't support DV. Apart from that it's better than the C4 in almost every other way.

            From RTings

"The Samsung S90D/S90DD OLED is mostly better than the LG C4 OLED. The Samsung gets brighter in HDR, so bright highlights stand out more on it, and it maintains its HDR brightness better while in 'Game Mode.' The Samsung TV also has a wider color gamut, better color volume, and better HDR gradient handling, so colors in HDR are more vibrant, lifelike, brighter, and have less banding. The Samsung has a wider viewing angle, and the image doesn't have a green tint that worsens as you move off-center, so it's the better choice for watching TV in a group setting. However, the LG supports Dolby Vision and DTS audio formats, so it's the better option for those looking to get the most out of their physical media."

            • @Flippant: yeah, with most streaming platforms such as netflix and Prime video providing dolby vision content, it would be a bummer of Samsung displays them in SDR.

              • @Encounter Ekambaram: That's not how it works, at all. If your tv doesn't support DV then it will default to HDR10, which is a part of DV.

                • @Flippant: sweet, that's what I asked in my earlier comment.

                  • @Encounter Ekambaram: Sorry, I didn't even realize you were asking a question, glad we got to the answer in the end!

My Samsung displays DV content from the streaming services in HDR10+.

        • I feel like there would be another Black Friday TV deals on Samsung like the mobile ones this morning. Then S90D would be more appealing lol

  • Quick question - can we use the extra $200 NL gift card for wall mount?
Or does anyone know a cheap way to have it wall mounted?

  • Smiths City had some amazing deals on TV's in the early AM last night, sadly they have increased prices massively now, maybe wrong % loading applied.
