Fisher & Paykel Double DishDrawer Dishwasher (Stainless Steel) $1,679 (RRP $3,099) @ Harvey Norman, NL, Smiths City + Elsewhere

130

Some people hate these but we love the Dish Drawers.

We’re planning to replace our piece of profanity AEG that came with the house and jumped on this boxing day deal.

Was $2,099 at Noel Leeming just a couple of days ago, so glad that we didn't go for it.

F&P site suggests RRP of $3,099 which seems a bit steep. But I do remember seeing them (not 100% sure if same model though - FP numbering is confusing) at $2,6xx at normal, not discounted price.

Anyway, to cut to the chase, $1,679 is not far from what i paid for our first Dish Drawer more than 15 years ago.

This prices seems to be available at several retailers; HN, NL, Smiths City. Maybe others.

We have these. Bought about 18 months ago for 2150 ish with a 200 dollar voucher from Harvey Norman (relecutant price match on their behalf). Took a couple hours for me to install, there are some fiddly bits but reasonably straightforward replacement for the old unit that came with the house.

We are happy with them and they look the part

You got a sweet deal! Churrrrrrr.

  • Can anyone comment on how these compare to Miele dishwashers in terms of washing performance?
The draws seem like a nice idea but I really care about how well it cleans stuff

Personally, I would just stay away from F&P as they've been getting some pretty bad rep after the acquistion by Haier.

I did look at the reviews on productreview.com.au. They are pretty abysmal. But then no dishwasher is getting good reviews. I think people in general overestimate what the dishwasher is capable of doing. Wee have a relative who takes the ads at face value, chucks pans straight off the stove and containers with stuck on bits of food in. And then complains they come out dirty.

We moved a lot in the past 10 years and the houses had all sorts of dishwashers. DishDrawer was the best performance wise. It may not take as much as the conventional dishwasher but you run smaller loads twice as often.

In terms of reliability, this is not a waste disposal unit. Wash off excess food, don't expect miracles when you burn that slice of bacon to the pan, keep filters clean and it'll serve you well. I did have to replace an open\close sensor on our first one (pre- Haier days). Bought a dozen from a chap on TradeMe for $10 and 30 minutes to fit.

        • Dishwashers should work fine with pans and containers that have food stuck on, the problem is most people skip the pre-wash step by either not using the pre-wash compartment, using the quick setting that skips the prewash step altogether or use capsules that also skip the pre-wash step.

        • For good reviews and good price, Beko seems hard to beat. 5 year warranty too.

          • @elbrownos: Beko (or the unfortunately named Arcelik) used to make the F&P traditional dishwashers.
Although i believe those are now rebadged Haiers (the F&Ps, as they went all in on only focusing on dishdraws).

The whiteware stuff gets quite complicated on what you are buying as it is very incestuous with oem/odms.

        • There is definitely a difference. But maybe the good brands quality is dropping. I have never found F&P good at drying, but the best ever dishwasher I have had is an Asko. Used to hold a lot of dishes, and it cleaned and dried very well. However I think it used to be connected to both hot and old water supplies. The new ones only need a cold water supply.

Think Haier is a red herring. They still operate laregely independently and Haier injected a fair amount of funds into them for R&D. The dishdraws are still made by F&P by the plant they set up in Thailand (some other stuff is made at Haier in China to F&P spec). Haiers interest and payback is using F&P design and resources to improve their stuff.

In saying all that - German made Bosch dishwashers are the gold standard.
The dishdraws themselves had 3-4 generations until they sorted out most of the issues but have been okay for the last 10 years or so.

Sources: used to know some highly experienced engineers at F&P appliances.

    • Do you have a Miele? We have the integrated F&P dish drawers for about 1 year now. So far so good. Cleans pretty well and dries them quite well too. Does the miele ones dry the dishes well?

      • +1

Yes, rise aid helps with the drying too. Glassware comes out pristine.

    • Once you go Miele you cant go back, appreciate price is always a consideration but they are certainly better even 10 years later its better than a brand new F&P with little to no maintenance
