No Annual Fee First Year + $150 Bonus Cashback with Cashback Visa Card, or $250 Cashback with Platinum Cashback Visa Card @ ANZ

150

Looks like there's finally a credit card deal available.

*No annual fee for first year + $150 cashback, Cashback Visa Card: https://www.anz.co.nz/personal/credit-cards/cashback-visa/
*No annual fee for first year + $250 cashback, Platinum Cashback Visa Card: https://www.anz.co.nz/personal/credit-cards/cashback-platinu…

The Platinum has a $8,000 min. limit, but doesn't offer travel insurance.

The AMEX cards are still a better deal, but better acceptance with Visa cards.

ANZ CashBack Visa Platinum offer: ANZ lending criteria, terms, conditions and fees apply. Limited time offer, one per customer, on a new ANZ CashBack card. After 12 months, standard annual fee applies (currently $80). We’ll credit a $250 bonus CashBack Reward 12 months after the first eligible purchase if you haven’t cancelled or changed card type in that time.

Nice, thanks, will apply for this once the Qcard deal is finishing up.

I would argue that better acceptance with AMEX rather than banks though. Recently was declined a $500 Mastercard from Westpac, but accepted $8000 Qcard =/

    • Sorry I meant acceptance with retailers when paying

      • Ah right, gotcha

  • Tsb still has the best Cashback visa available
70:1 cashback rate with mobile phone protection plan.

    • Agree, but only if you manage to get accepted. Recently applied to replace my ANZ Platinum but got rejected eventhough I've said that I'll replace the ANZ card with TSB. Won't budge and said expenses > income.

      • Thats down to the CCCFA. even getting credit limit upgrades has a manual DD process now

      • I got approved for 20k but yeah I agree there is a bit of process and paper work to go through. It's almost as much painful as getting a mortgage.

I don't think overall responsible lending is good to promote competition in cc sector.

    • No, they don't. It's a MasterCard.

ANZ were a pain to get a credit card with like with ASB. to be honest amex seem to do the least due diligence.

But worth a go to get a decent wedge of money for signin up.

I like dosh better than all of these cards, load up the card using your checking account and get 1% cashback paid every month. Plus its a visa card unlike Amex, accepted most places.

you would have to spend 25k to make the $250 in a year. worth doing both no? :)

        Agreed :)

    • What's the fee

    • +1

I prefer to use credit over debit card, since money used to pay off the CC is sitting on a mortgage offset account earning me the equivalent of current mortgage rates at ~7%pa and can sit against the cc for 1-2 months before needing to be paid (so 0.6 - 1.2% effective savings, plus my CC earning me cashback rewards) - results in greater savings if you have a mortgage. On top of that, you have to manage topping up the Dosh card vs automatic direct debits with a cc.

    Terms look a bit sneaky:

"ANZ CashBack Visa Platinum offer: ANZ lending criteria, terms, conditions and fees apply. Limited time offer, one per customer, on a new ANZ CashBack card. After 12 months, standard annual fee applies (currently $80). We’ll credit a $250 bonus CashBack Reward 12 months after the first eligible purchase if you haven’t cancelled or changed card type in that time."

Thanks for sharing this. IMO best to avoid and just use Dosh and Amex free tier tbh.

Cash back after 12 months? glad you picked up on that… seems a lot less enticing now.

      • This is still free money in 12 months, no? Apply, use card once, get $170 profit ($250 - $80) in 12 months.

I guess it might be an issue holding an unused card this long if applying for mortgage.

        • +1

yes, this means that you will have to pay the second year fee to get the $250 bonus so net profit (the reward from application is $170 in 12 months' time after first purchase. Otherwise the cashback return is not good.

          • @gooddeals: There’s a chance you could, on the same day you receive your $250 cash back, message ANZ requesting to close your credit card and reverse the $80 fee due to having used it only a few days.

I’ve done this before and gotten annual fees reversed (but obviously not the exact same scenario where a $250 bonus was being applied)

    • 12 months! wow thats mad.

    • I vaguely remember ANZ Cashback card always be like this by annually credit the previous year cashback. Cause their cashback is based on your annual spending. Correct me if I am wrong, use to have a cashback card few years ago.

  • How does this compare to TSB platinum in terms of benefits?

  • +3

Be careful with these cashback credit cards and credit cards where you get points for spending money. It does encourage people to spend money they don't have. In the long run it really doesn't end up being worth it after you have been sucked into these deals and are paying the yearly fees as well as interest because you are behind in payments. Be sure to read the fine print. We have all been down that rabbit hole before I am sure. I am not a financial adviser but am just warning others to be wary.

  • Perfect, as my ASB one from July 2022 has outlived its usefulness
