  • I have one from AliExpress and it is pretty good. A friend got one too and he loves it. It can be integrated into Home Assistant so you can delete the app once setup.

    • Which one did you get?

      • I got the non-apple one and hooked it up to Home Assistant with Meross local, then exposed to Google Assistant/Home. My friend got the AppleKit one and it is just native.

  • Broadlink IR blasters work well

problem with those is you don't have the status of its being open or close. This one comes with a contact sensor so will tell you if the garage is open or not.

With Broadlink, if you open it with a switch/remote, you won't know if garage is open or close.

I wired up a cheap esp8266 with contact sensor using mqtt on Home assistant.

I got a broadlink door sensor and attached it to my garage. Also have security cameras.

    • Which model is suitable for garage fdoors (merlin specifically)? I have the chamberlain kit but havent bothered installing the sensors so it wont go down. Something cheap and cheeeful will suit me (have security camera so can see if the door is up or down)

Bought one of these a few months ago, and reasonably impressed with the results. Works with homekit and Siri reasonably well.
One gotcha is the use of the app. I found that the timing was a little off in terms of "door open / door closed", but theres a bunch of forums online to help with that.

    • It works well for our Apple HomeKit home as well and I think it’s the cheapest option out there.

Regarding the timing, have you set the opening time in the Meross app? You need to count your door opening time and enter it in the app.

Yeah that’s exactly what I did. It was the fact you had to tap on the “white space” in the meross app to get to the settings which threw me. Once I’d done that and redefined the count, it’s been great

  • This looks good. Anyone has any ideas, or tried any solutions how to "smarten" the wired alarm?
