Steam Deck 64GB US$359.10, 256GB US$449.65, 512GB US$519.20 + Shipping @ Steam (VPN + USA Steam & YouShop Accounts Required)

140

Note: It says out of stock if you're not using a VPN or are signed into a NZ Steam account.

The official Steam website has Steam Decks on sale. 10% off of the cheapest (64gb) model, up to 20% off of the high end (512gb) model.

This means the cheapest model is $359.10 USD, which after bank fees cost me $605 NZD.

You can't purchase directly in NZ, so I used an American VPN and created a USA Steam Account. I am having it sent to YouShop, who estimate it will cost $190 NZD to deliver from the states to my door here in NZ. All up this will have a total cost of $795 for the base model, cheaper than any other deal I've seen. (MightyApe have it listed for $1200)

My plan is to manually upgrade the SSD, but if you want to take advantage of that larger discount on the high-end model, the 512gb version will set you back $519.20 USD so Approx. $860 Kiwi + $190 shipping = Approx. $1050 NZD - still significantly cheaper than a local reseller
EDIT: For the high end model shipping will be slightly higher due to more tax so total cost closer to $1085 ish

Price may vary depending on the true YouShop cost. I will update this post once it arrives there (though the sale may be over then, as Steam has said 1-2 weeks to ship). So that is a risk you are taking on. I entered dimensions and weight found online into their cost estimator to come to this price, however shipping could potentially end up being higher (or lower) if the info I found was wrong.

Does the YouShop estimate include GST?

I did this last sale and it ended up being $760 total. Definitely cheaper than buying locally.

      How much was your postage?

      • +3

With YouShop it was about $180 including gst

FYI if you use a 3rd party freight forwader you can most likely avoid paying GST. I used NYBox.com to order mine and there was no GST payable - just a $45USD shipping cost. Steam cancelled my order to that address - so I ended up buying it from a 3rd party website no issues.

Shame they cancelled it that's way cheaper. Maybe I should have looked around before defaulting to YouShop

      • a lot of the freight forwarders charge gst these days. I actually couldn't find a decent freight forwarder when I was looking at buying a huge RC car a while back.

Base model is currently $999 at DickSmith, Not as cheap but atleast this way the warranty would be valid.

Good one..! Just got my SteamDeck 64GB from Aussie via a Kiwi friend who was visiting me last week. Very happy! Costed me NZD 648 all up for the 64GB. Waiting for the 2TB SSD to arrive before I sell my 1TB SSD
If anyone is keen I can post my way of getting it from across the ditch

    • I'm keen to know please

      • Allg.. Sorry I miss calculated $649 as NZD which is incorrect - rather NZD $700
        1. Find listing during Ebay sales for 15-22% discount so for me my friend had ebayplus and few listings had 22% off listing price discounts so

He bought the SteamDeck for AU $940 and got 22% discount on listed price (Make sure he carries the card which he paid with)
        2. Once received and he is flying ask him to get GST return at airport
        3. Once there he needs to show the card he paid with and the invoice and the product(I assume) - for me he got AU$85 off as the invoice was of AU$940 not AU$733 he paid
that way got my landing cost down to AU$649 or NZ$700

Keep an eye on OZBargain - I bought the costly steamdeck from ebay but there was one like this which would have reduced the cost further -Steam Deck 64GB AU$692 (AU$674.70 eBay Plus) Delivered @ three.sons eBay Store

  • WARNING: DO NOT USE the same card as on your NZ steam account they WILL block the account and make the transaction as fraudulent learnt the hard way when trying to fight with them. Ended up making another account and buying with a different credit card.

Done it twice thru youshop with no issues apart from the issue above

  • Anybody who got this to work - Steam won’t accept my payments without a US billing address. How did you get around this?

    • Did you try a US address generator?

      • Yep, tried a generator and using the Youshop address. But it’s pretty strict about matching the payment address and the card address.

I wander if steam gift cards would work?
