Air NZ AmEx Platinum: 800 Airpoints after $2k Spend, Free Domestic Flight, $395 Annual Fee

70

Similar to the deal that was previously posted, except with 800 Airpoints and no waiver of the annual fee:

  • 800 Airpoints after spending $2000 within the first 3 months
  • One complimentary annual domestic return flight
  • One Status Point for every $250 spent
  • One Air New Zealand Airpoints Dollar for every $75 you spend
  • Koru annual fee discount (save $145 p.a.)
  • Complimentary Domestic and International Travel Insurance

Requirements:

  • I am aged over 18
  • I have no history of bad debt or payment default
  • I have a personal gross (pre-tax) annual income of $65,000 or more
  • I am a permanent resident or citizen of New Zealand, and
  • If self employed, I have been trading for at least 18 months
  • I do not currently hold or have held an American Express card within the previous 12 months

Unfortunately, there is no fee waiver for the $395 annual fee. With Airpoints valued at 1 AP = 1 NZD that makes this deal $205 more valuable than the one previously posted. Lastly, if you have held or hold any American Express card within the 12 months, you are not eligible for this promotion. BIg blow to all of us who applied earlier.

Hopefully there are still some of you out there who can enjoy this!

  • So positive is you get 600 more airpoints than previous offer however you have to pay annual $395 fee.

    • You're essentially paying $395 for $800APD - doubling your money but can now only use it with AirNZ, and a domestic return flight. Assuming you're going to spend $2000 anyway (which will net a further $26 earn at the $75 rate on this card).

  • It's a nice offer, even with the upfront fee. Any idea if it's split into two payments? Maybe you can get the card, spend the $2k, and then cancel it after you get the Airpoints, thus incurring just half the annual fee.

    • Annual Card Fee - $395 - Charged annually on the anniversary of your Account and charged in advance.

      Good thinking though.

      • Ahh that's a pain, ohwell.

  • I am interested in this deal but last time I had a Amex it was a pain having to sign every time and limited merchants accepted it. When I renewed my Rego the other day I see NZTA don't accept amex anymore so it appears to have gotten worst not better.

    Questions

    1) Does amex now have a pin? and a paywave/paypass equivalent

    2) What major retailers don't accept Amex

    3) Can you use it a Z pay at pump

    Cheers
