  • Damn that 42" C2 is mighty tempting for the PS5 in my office. It's currently hooked up to a 27" 1080p 60hz monitor that I bought with my PS4 almost ten years ago, there just hasn't been a worthwhile upgrade for the cost until now. NL best option considering the flybuys?

    • +2

Just brought one as I was typing up the post. ;-)

    • +2

PS5 in the office, does your company still hire people?

  • +1

That 65" C2 is a steal at that price

  • Thanks OP. Great price.

  • That 42" C2 is mighty bloody tempting. Staff price was a lot more than that earlier on

  • What about Veon? My existing one got a dent in it. $750 (Veon) vs $1300 (LG) roughly for 65" TV.

    • +1

Going from a Veon LED tv to a LG OLED is a huge jump tech wise, they are pretty much completely different categories of 'TV'.

There are drawbacks of jumping up to OLED's luxury contrast levels, like burn-in risk so do research on what screen tech is best for your usage.

  • We play the odd ps5 and switch games, that's all.

Long as there are not persistent elements on the screen for long periods of time the general consensus is that you shouldn't see burn-in for some time. However it is a risk of the technology that will always be there, some people seem to not have issues after many years and others indicate getting it within a few months (or worse just after a year when the warranty is over)

If you want some good reading/examples RTNGS are doing a torture test of 100+ different OLED screens and reporting on the observed issues (this is a torture test so not reflective of 'causal usage' as the wear will be accelerated, and they are using something that has static elements whereas your use case will probably be much less harsh) https://www.rtings.com/tv/learn/longevity-investigations-upd…

Great response times, and unmatched picture/contrast comes with a risk, its a tough decision, good luck!

      • Awesome, thanks.

Bought a 42" as PC monitor last november for $1899, this price is crazy

    • How are you finding it as a PC monitor ?

      • It's great, and the perfect size, i used to have a 34" IPS ultrawide but always fell it's too small, this is so nice.

    • Hi. Bought the 42 inch for my productivity monitor. My problem is I bought a stand to put it in but it doesn't move up and down as I can't find a monitor arm that can handle the tv. I have an electric desk so I want the tv to be able to go up and down too. What's your setup like?

  • -1

Highly recommend getting the product protection if you go 65" and above

    • +1

Does the extended protection include burn-in? if so 5yrs for $334.99 is actually pretty good added to the current 42" price if it was for PC use.

      • +3

        Burn in not covered

        • Thanks for confirming that, it was tempting but with just the 12 month warranty that's an easy pass. I am multiuse PC with about 14 hours+ per day screen-on time with lots of static elements in all usages, so that's just way to high risk for the price.

Hopefully some better mini-LED screens with high dimming zone counts are released in the next few years, Coolermaster seem to be starting to make them in 27" but not yet in ultrawide aspects. And micro-LED still so far away from consumer products :(

Who would have thought after CRT was phased out that burn-in would be something present in the mainstream again.

      • Id you get 'Damage' it might have fallen over…

    • +4

      Honestly.

I worked for noel leeming until November and for TV's I strongly recommend not bothering

Burn in is not covered. It's not even covered in damage protection.

Price protection isn't worth anything here.

CGA outlasts the 3 or 5 year product protection and the actual process for getting a tv assessed or repaired by lg is the same under Assurant, manufacturer's warranty and cga claim… With the odd exception. And maybe at worst the 'cga escalations team' dragging their feet for a week or two.

Call out fees are covered by extended warranty if you do get an in home assessment, but if you've literally never been in the service menu, which is not accessible to normal users, it's going to be exceptionally difficult for LG to argue against cga. Afaik there's no analogue out on these TV's at all so I'd struggle to see how you'd begin to misuse it.

The Assurant warranties are money printing machines for NL, there's the odd category where it can be worthwhile (like turning around kids laptops in a day or two) but for anything with a large price tag id pretty happily argue that 9/10 times it's just not worth it.

They introduced the 5 year cover last year and dropped the price 10% after only about 2 weeks when heaps of salespeople came back saying 25% of the product was a joke.

      • I worked for Noel Leeming as well. I probably should have mentioned that you dhould compare the pricing between the stores. Some stores it is worth the money.

Didnt realize that the price had skyrocketed that much on their plans… thats sad… Not worth it if it is that much.

        • +1

True. The absolute best way to get a cheaper price than online is talking to a salesperson anyway. If I'm getting paid an amount for the tv then I'll happily tank the price right down , even into the negatives. Without identifying myself too much I won one of the brands preorder the most things incentives because I was just cheaper than spark or hn or NL normally.

Same thing with the warranties, although much less likely to be discounted.

Ohh also I don't know the Harvey norman cover very well, afaik Noel's repair 3x then replace but Harveys replace and end the cover.

You can always pull the warranty discount trick too! Salesman will bundle the warranty with the tv by discounting the tv… You just go to another store or come back the next day to return the warranty under the cooling off period… And you've saved however much the warranty was discounted.

It hurts their individual kpi for the day but if its a B+ tv they'll still make something

    • No, that is why we have the CGA.

Granted the whole damage thing, but not for shit breaking/burn in etc.

  • Bought one (C2 55 inch Evo) via Noel Leeming. Looks like lowest price. Wish there was other discounts via The Market (e.g. 10%) but those days seem long gone.

    • +1

It’s been over two months since a 10% off coupon at The Market.
Certainly few and far between now.

  • Thanks OP. Bought a 55 inch c2.

FYI, jb is doing a further deal if you buy their TV (only for 55 inch & above) you get 50% off an LG soundbar. Have to be in the same transaction.

  • Cheers for the heads up!!! Picked up the C2 65" yesterday at 100% Appliances which seem to matching the same price as the other stores.

  • Hmm only Q is who to buy this from as they all seem to be roughly the same price.

    • JbHifi
    • Noel
    • Harvey
    • SmithCity

Who do people think is the best of those if something goes wrong? (Have had good XP with JB in the past so maybe them :D)

    • Much of a muchness really, and can depend on the local stores/staff/managers as to how they handle issues.

It is worth nothing, JB does offer "extra warranty" by default. They call it "Minimum Voluntary Warranty". (You may be able to argue CGA for longer through any of the retailers though)

I went with Noel Leeming, they had Fly Buys which converted to 45 cents/litre of petrol. YMMV unsure if I already had a few points but it’s a good ballpark.

  • Grabbed a 65 inch C2, just been told its ready for pickup
