AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D Processor $448.95 (Was $648.99, Limit 1) + Shipping @ Computer Lounge

120

Looks like the lowest price we've ever seen in NZ. Extremely popular at $300 USD when posted on r/buildapcsales. When converted from NZD to USD it's about $280ish USD

If you've already got an AM4 system this is the best upgrade you've can get if you're primarily gaming. 5900X and 5950X are better if you need a huge amount of cores.

If you're building new you might be interested in the Intel i5 13600K(F) but that one goes for around $550. Alternatively the AMD Ryzen 5 7600X is going for about $480 but is only 6 cores and has more expensive motherboards.

Here are some meta reviews that include the Intel i5 13600K(F) and AMD Ryzen 5 7600X if you want to see how they compare.

CL won't honour it (they never do), they've stuffed up and set the price to the same as the 5800x :

  • I bought a 5700x yesterday :(

  • they will 100% fix the price and do refund to buyers .

I did the unthinkable and called Computer Lounge. I spoke to a lady in sales and can confirm that this price is accurate and not a pricing error (they triple checked, including the SKU). Merry Christmas to anyone in the market for one! What a great deal.

Edit: Added they checked the SKU.

    • She gave you bad info. The price has gone back up now ($648), whilst the 5800x (not x3d) is still at $448.

If anyone did place an order and your card has been charged, should they not honour your order and you wish to pursue, you can quote that a female staff member in sales confirmed based on the SKU that the price was accurate. The call was made at 10:15 am to 09 368 4818 and lasted 2m 42s.

  • Gonna try and price match with PBTech. Hopefully they say okay.

Will be a massive upgrade from my R5 3600

It's just gone up to $648.95 while I was figuring out how to convince the mrs haha.

    • +2

Ha well that saves me $450 that I probably shouldn't be spending

  • For those getting this for a gaming PC, what sort of hardware will it be paired with? It would make the 16GB 2666Mhz, Ryzen 5 5500, RTX 2080S budget build I'm planning a lot less… budget, but I am tempted.

    • +1

That would make your build unbalance. Stick with the 5500 if you are using RTX 2080S or instead splash money on a better GPU atleast RTX 3070 and up.

2666mhz is not good. I don't know what price you are getting it for but 3200 is the sweet spot. Should be exactly $100 for 16gb.

5500 I don't think is very good from memory. I could be muddled by the rx 6500 which is awful. Go with a 5600 or 5600x instead if going amd.

      • I got it second hand advertised as 3200Mhz but saw it was 2666 when picking it up. Paid $40 in the end. Do you think the added cost would be worth it in this case?

From what I've read, the Ryzen 5 5500 (CPU) is similar to the popular but somewhat dated Ryzen 5 3600, but at $150, it's about the most affordable modern CPU I could find. It's not miles behind the 5600, and hopefully won't be a bottleneck at 1440p with the 2080S.

The RX 6500 is a low-tier GPU that's worse than a GTX 1070, and looking at its price, I couldn't recommend it when used 2060's cost the same.

        • $40 for 16gb is pretty good. For a low-end build, the difference should be relatively minor. The more concerning cases are when people buy new 2666 ram for roughly the same price as 3200. In which case, the small cost difference is worth it.

For low end cpus, the 12100/13100 are excellent performers. I can't remember if the 5500 is a good option as I may be mixing up the poor reviews with those for the rx 6500.

If you are playing at 1440p, the CPU is less of an issue. The GPU will most likely be the bottleneck depending on how many frames you are getting.
Although I know someone with a 5700x paired with a 2080ti so going up to the 5600x might be a good investment if your budget allows.

          • @Bill: 5500 is Cezanne, so effectively a 5600G with the GPU disabled.

            • @PANiCnz: Yes I saw userbenchmark call it a slightly lower binned 5600g.

Main points I came across are the L3 cache and no PCIe 4 support

          • @Bill: Managed to pick up some used 3200 for $50 today, so will use that and try to sell the 2666. I've already bought the Ryzen 5500, so will probably stick with it until the GPU gets upgraded in a few years

            • @BJ: That's good. I have actually never bought used components yet. Do you use memtest to check the ram?

I'm wanting to get a new build for myself but everything seems so expensive still. I'm looking at around a 13400 + rx7600 although I may choose another gpu.

I'm just waiting for deals like at computer lounge. The 32gb of ram at $129 makes my eyes water.

              • @Bill: I've never thought too much about RAM. Had about 5 machines now and the only issue I had was with my first one that had 2 different kits and gave a mem beep error whenever I made any changes to the system and was quite finnicky to get both kits working together.

Used CPU GPU and motherboard I've never had issues with either. Just check benchmarks and temps are normal, reapply thermal paste and pads and clean every now and then.

The parts I now avoid getting used are PSU and storage.

That RAM deal does look pretty good. I got 32gb of the same stuff used for $100 yesterday but 2 2x8 kits, so looks like my pcs RAM will also be getting a speed/latency upgrade

I took 2 seconds to think about it and bam, the price is gone.

Looks like its legit, just got a notification that my order has shipped.

Nice! At least CL have honoured the price for those who were quick enough to order before they put it back up.

Looks like my order has shipped as well

  • They honoured the Samsung 980 Pro 1TB deal as well a while ago. Not all bad.

Item was just delivered to my rural address in Hamitlon. No way did I expect this to show up that quick! Great service from posties and CL at this time of year!
