    studio-quality shots

Someone needs to take them to task over that statement. Blatant misrepresentation.

    • Also likes of altitude hold which is typically crap without gps.

Sensors otherwise only really work close to the ground, assuming it has them.

      • I'm not expecting miracles for $65, but still seems like a decent special.

GPS isn't used during altitude hold, only the barometer which is insanely accurate even in cheap devices.

What it probably has is an inertial sensor that it uses to try to hold its lateral position, but can slowly drift over ten seconds or more. Inertial sensors are often crap and easily interfered with due to vibration or very slow movement. We built a motion-controlled bluetooth handset and only camera based tracking was going to be able to detect slow movements. That far up in the air inside-out tracking is useless.

GPS can be insanely accurate as well, but not in things that are moving. So you still need inertial tracking to filter out big GPS jumps as GPS occlusion occurs. Also, GPS chipsets are silly cheap to implement now as well.

Drones with a combination of barometric, GPS, inertial and camera tracking will be the only reliable devices. This is called sensor fusion and lots of chipsets come with it built in now making it easy to use, so this thing MIGHT be okay.

Oh yeah, it has flightpath mapping. It'll have GPS.

          Nice write up, thanks

    • Wow. "Studio quality" "4k" huh? That camera is terrible.

Skip to 2.35+ to actually get to the part anyone is interested in. (I wish youtubers would just get to the point!)

Cheers for the vid. But dam that 'image stabilisation' makes me nauseous

Studio quality as in you can nearly make out a number plate from 2 metres

      lmao that looks horrible

  • Completely different ballpark, but I was lucky enough to have a fly of a Mavic 3 today. I could see much of Nelson city with its range.
