Impossible Plant Based Burger Patties $3.45 (Was $12) in-Store @ Countdown

180

Found this deal while cruising the aisles at Queensgate Countdown so not sure if it's store specific. Not everyone's cup of tea but a bargain in any case.

Sell by date is March 23rd but use by date is Nov 2022

    these are really good

    • Depends on what you meant by good. They are highly processed so probably not as healthy as you might think.

Taste I would imagine. They will surely be more flavoursome than a slab of tofu

        • A lot of vegetarian food tastes better than tofu without genetically modified ingredients

@Zyo: I love tofu, but will sometimes go for products like these and treat them as junk food.

Deep fried tofu with satay sauce is great.

  • Quick sale generally meant expiring soon. Whether it'll be in other stores depends if they received the same stock and had the same trouble selling it including if they manage to sell it after reducing. (Generally they try multiple reductions before they reduce it so much. Although there is only one sticker here, you can see there's a sign showing they tried $6.90 first and that may not have been the first reduction.) The precise reduction also tends to vary from store to store

    • yes it's noted on the post that the sell by date is the 23rd of March however I looked at the actual expiration date and it's Nov 2022 so there's still plenty of time…..

      Vegeterian option?

Meat and dairy farming create greenhouses gas (methane emissions).
Eating less red meat is linked to increased lifespan.

I'd buy more plant based alternatives, but I'm a cheapie and find them too expensive.
Even at the reduced price these cost over $15 per kg ($3.45/0.227kg)

  • Were on reduced at my local countdown and bought a pack for my dinner as I highly doubt the rest of the family would want to eat. Tasted a lot better than other meat alternatives I had tried, but wouldn't go out of my way to purchase again (just wanted to taste them out of curiosity).

    • I've never tried them! What do they taste like?

      • well.. I may have to give them another try because I recall being hungover / dehydrated at the time which could’ve ( probably did ) mess with my taste perception .. hmm

  • Where do you find this in the supermarket? Are they with the vege products or the meat?

    • Found mine in the meat section

      • I see. Good to know.

    • Generally in the meat/butchery section, possibly near the mince meat and very likely with other meatless burgers etc (and maybe some meat based burgers). Note they may have ran out of these and have no new stock so there may be nothing even if they normally sell them. You can probably look at the priceless stickers to see where they should be

      • Thank you for the reply!

  • No more dated stock @ St Lukes or Mt Eden. They got new stock with a March 31st expiry date.
