  • If you're in no hurry, I'd wait for the Ryzen 6000 series, they just released the desktop ones which will be available 5th November. so laptop ones should be availble early next year.

    This isn't a deal.
For the same money you can buy a much better spec machine like this:
    https://www.justlaptops.co.nz/asus-tuf-fa506iu-15-6-ips-144h…

    • Ryzen R7-4800H 8xCore
    • GeForce GTX 1660Ti 6GB
    • 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, 512GB NVMe
    • 144Hz IPS-Level Nano-Edge 15.6" Screen

    • MIL-STD-810H Military-Grade Toughness

    • Gaming RGB Keyboard w/ numeric keypad
    • Immersive Surround Sound
    • Self-cleaning Dual FanCooling

The Inspiron series are as barebones and basic as a laptop can get, and why Intel still have 4c/8t i7's in their lineup for an 11th gen processor is beyond me. The AMD offerings today and the upcoming 6000 series offer far better performance/value per watt.

  • Intel CPU. Nah thanks…

  • I'd be careful with purchasing anything from the Dell website. Made a purchase for 2 monitors 1 month ago with a delivery date that was supposed to be 2 weeks. Finally got in contact with someone there and was told ETA 30th December…

    • I agree. I ordered two monitors in September, one was meant to be shipped the next day, but then got email saying late November. The other one also now scheduled for mid November.

In addition the Dell NZ website wasnt taking credit cards when I ordered, so it felt like something weird was going on.

      Just be weary.

  • wait for black Friday sales

WOW!!! The original price was $3200, that's got to be a joke right?

  • Erm hey guys

I see a comment above, mentioning the 6000, if I'm correct, its a referral to the AMD 6000 GPU.
    and then
    my next thought

You do realise that the mainstream stores such as noel lemmings even, is still clogged with 4 core CPU stock.
Anything above that you're really starting to see the price ramp up.

Smaller stores dont get the bulk discounts, "most often", so generally they charge more.
These stores markup is a set amount. So their markup is already on a higher base value at purchase price and affecting the end user purchase price.

All the big chain stores pretty much owned by a couple of companies.
So in effect those big chain stores own most of them Noel Lemmings, Harvey Normans etc.. and are nearly all sister companies.
Thats why for a time theyd advertise find a same brand model at another store… they'll price match… (marketing)
Good chance as % Its owned by the same parent company your cash still going to the same player.
You think your saving and in effect you are, youre saving having to go to the other store get parking and of course petrol and the end value. But to the parent company given % and markups.. Youre only mostly saving petrol money and time.

Competition is kind of a myth if only a couple of players behind the scenes are moving most the inventory in NZ as a %.
So that said, they will both strangle the release of tech as they try to move older inventory to keep the margins up..

    The comment mentions "Soon"
Released soon and actually coming to market, Hello Nvdia 3000 ring a bell.
GPU for laptop, not on launch same for AMD no doubt.
Somewhat this current pricing makes me laugh when i see things with a gpu 2060 at near $2700 nzd prices here.

    That aside, theres another factor.
What AMD product laptop wasnt stunted, by only being allowed to have a 2060 as the best GPU in an AMD laptop.
Leaving Intel brand with the on paper higher spec gpu 2070 2080 etc, right.

So on the flipside even seeing AMD cpu with an Nvdia 3000 series beyond perchance a 3060 is questionable, but not impossible. Mainly for the reason nvdia will go where the sales are. No one can see the future of market trends, other than the business model of going for profits.

    Moreover
As far as AMD is concerned
Rather than underclocking a gpu due to power requirements and throwing it in a laptop, you're better off profit wise to put it in a stand alone card for a desktop and max the profit.

So a 6000 series gpu in a Laptop, soon?
    hmm I have a doubt.
Certainly at a respectable value price point, highly questionable $, as it will be the current bleeding edge tech and priced accordingly.

Perhaps the fatal blow to waiting for 6000 gpu core in a laptop is the power draw.

This years model in 2020 note* on a very quick google showed PBTech with this offer at over NZD $7000

which has 16gb quadro Gpu and 220W power brick, again with quick google for a replacement power brick.
    https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/NBKRAZ0333031/Razer-Blade-15-Studio-Edit-Mobile-Workstation-156?qr=GShopping&gclid=CjwKCAiAnIT9BRAmEiwANaoE1cqmHjnv1yCFae4aNuxB909BNunyqauRXf0A3AeWYUrZttrkBDYfLRoCwIUQAvD_BwE

While cpu power draw has come down as the die shrinks and efficiencies, the GPU power requirements tends to go the other way, power draw goes up as you add more. The 6000 series of GPU desktop is 250 watts just for the GPU.

So what will you actually get in a 6000 Gpu core laptop?
It will either be cut down or power throttled core for heat.
Who wants to buy a laptop brand new, with only a 2 hour battery life.
Let alone sound like a hovercraft with fans screaming to cool it.
Yes there have been some double brick laptops power supply, in the past with nearly a low 2 hour battery life, but it wasnt such a big seller to make it a reasonable machine for most users and the high price point reflected that.

Cant even find a laptop with a 3080 in it or comming so due date etc on new egg or amazon.
There'll be few months before AMD launch the 6000 series on laptops.
I dont recall the 6000 series of gpu being mentioned as in a launch date, coming to the mobile market in the official launch day. Although admittedly i was not paying full attention to the launch at that time.

So yeah, its a bit of a novel
I'm inconsistent with following up on my posts on forums with back and forths, why id say something etc…

    • I agree

  • If any one of you want to buy a very solid machine and are not gamers ( GPUs firepro and nvidia workstation ) just get any precision dell from or after 4 th Gen Intel newer new or refurbished laptop s have 3 years international warranty no other dell products offer this , and buy it from USA and get it shipped here it s about 2 /3 cheaper then NZ prices and they last many many years
