Huawei P30 or P30 Pro $400 off with $40 Plan @ 2 Degrees (In Store)

350

The plan is open term so you can cancel at any time and still keep the $400 discount. You will need to sign up in store: 2D, JB, Noel Leeming, Harvey Norman, PBTech all have this deal.

If you pre-order (11 April is the last day) you get a bonus Huawei GT Smart Watch (via redemption).

If you pre-order from Noel Leeming you get bonus JBL Everest 710 Headphones as well.
https://view.my.noelleeming.co.nz/?qs=8c20f55f3a816ef23f23fc…

If you pre-order from PBTech you get a bonus UE Boom 3 speaker + power bank as well.
https://www.pbtech.co.nz/huawei-p30-pro-vip/devices

This has been discussed in various forums and sounded too good to be true but I just got written confirmation from 2 Degrees today:

"In regards to Huawei P30, there is $400 off the RRP, which means that the remaining amount on the RRP gets spread over the term you choose.

If you wish to cancel the plan , you just pay the remaining on the phone. So, RRP is $1099 with $400 that comes out to $699 which will get spread over the term."

  • Thanks for posting the deal, where can you see the detail of getting bonus JBL Headphones if order from Noel Leeming?

    • +2

It was in a NL email but you should be able to just walk in store and they will give it to you.
      https://view.my.noelleeming.co.nz/?qs=8c20f55f3a816ef23f23fc…

      • thanks, just using noel leeming online chat, they said i need to code which was included in the email Noel leeming sent, is this true? i cant see the code.

  • Are you sure the PB Tech speaker offer is still available?

  • Hi, I'm not fully understanding this deal. Does it mean if I pre-order the P30 and bundle up with the 2 degrees plan. If i cancelled the plan within the first month, I would only have to pay $699 for the phone?

    • and you get a free watch and ue boom and powerbank https://www.pbtech.co.nz/huawei-p30-pro-vip/devices

      • OH NICE! I just confirmed it with a call to 2 degrees.

        • please elaborate how this work? i need to buy the pphone from noel leeming then call 2 degree to join?

          • @Mark2018: Go in noel leemings, buy the phone and say u wanna sign up with the 2 degrees bundle which gives u $400 off. Sign contract etc then cancel it whenever you want to. Then you should get a bill from 2 degrees or soemthing which would tell you to pay off the remainder of the phone which is $699 if you buy the p30.

            • @Tomo: are you sure when you cancel they won't bill additional $400? sounds too good to be true.

              • @cocopops: Well YES it sounded too good to be true but when I phoned the sales team, I asked them IF i cancelled the plan do I still get the $400 off and I was told yes. which imo is the only reason why I would buy this phone.

            • @Tomo: right, guess this wont work for me then as i am currently overseas. thanks

              • @Mark2018: You could order it online or through a call to 2 degrees. They asked me if i wanted to order through the call and i said no since noel leemings gave me extra headphones. But you could still get this deal overseas if you call them or order through the online store.

        • What do you think is better deal, PB tech or Noel Leeming?

          • @Hamster: UE boom is a lot easier to sell off on trademe than the headphones imo.
So it really depends on what you need if you prefer on keeping either one.
Also I think to get the 2 degrees, you need to be in store to sign a contract or something. So depending on if you can get to a pb tech or noel leemings easier.

            • @Tomo: Yeah thought that might be the case, the last couple of days Ive seen this deal through 2 degrees (already have a $30 plan) and vodafone but without extras such as ue boom, headphones etc, as assumed we had to buy through them direct instead of Noel Leeming etc. Shame PB tech isn't where I live.

          • @Hamster: noels has flybuys if that helps, and pbtech also charges cc card surcharge 2.5%… i usually prefer credit card due to amex free screen protection/insurance.

  • I've been following this on the gpforums tech deal thread, most have had it easy to cancel the 2d plan. Lately some have not, was going to go into NL last weekend to do this but now can't be arsed with getting hot with a rep that won't let you cancel. Even though they clearly wrong.
Headphones selling round the $180-$200 mark.
No idea of the watch guessing $150.

All up a good saving if you sell the extras $1100 phone for $400 is a superb deal if everything pans out.

    • ive seen the watch has been selling easy at 200, i think the headphones are a harder sell

      • I suspect for all of these offers a glut in the market is going to mean prices will go down for the next few weeks. You may need to wait to get a good price. Seems the Boom was offered for S10 but got to figure the number of people doing this and wanting to sell is much higher.

P.S. fairly sure the discount should be $360 not $400 as even if you cancel the day you sign up you need to pay one month don't you?

        • Look at the discussion below, I was wrong on the plan thing.

  • Out of interest what is everyone considering or buying between the p30 and p30 pro?

    • i chose P30 pro and wont be getting myself a birthday gift in August… The zoom was far too superior to settle for less..

      • Yeah that zoom is insane,5x optical and up to 50x digital.

    • P30, holding out for oneplus 7 if that's better will sell p30 off

      • Deciding whether the extra $400 is worth it for the pro version, as with the value of extras the p30 is an amazing deal.

        • Like i said, no birthday gifts for the next birthday haha. My heart does cringe a little thinking about the $400 difference

        • Got a bunch of video's here for the Camera and extra feature differences.
          https://www.gpforums.co.nz/threads/528303-Huawei-P30-P30-Pro

For me i'm not a huge photo taker/selfies so the p30 was enough. I couldn't justify the extra $400 for the Pro. Especially since the software is locked and so if like all my other phones 5yrs down the line i can't flash a new Rom for continued security/support so it's kinda meh.

  • Thanks for this. Do you know how to access the $400 saving through PBTech? Their UE, watch and powerbank bundle for the P30Pro is available to order but listed at $1499.

    • You have to sign up to the 2Degrees plan in store in order to get the $400 discount.

      • Ok thanks - can you sign up to 2Degrees in store in PBTech to get the PTBTech bundle, or can it only be done in a 2Degrees store meaning we can get the free watch and $400 discount through 2Degrees OR the watch/UE/powerbank bundle without the $400 discount through PBTech?

  • What's the headphone model?

  • OK guys so I've made my order already with 2 degrees via Pb tech just now in store. PB tech sales rep had no idea about when you can cancel the contract. From what she remembered it is a 3 months requirement previously. She told me to contact 2 degrees to confirm about cancellation as they are only selling on behalf for 2 degrees so it has nothing to do with them.

Called 2 degrees to confirm it is an "Open term contract" and was told I could "Cancel Any Time"

  • For those of you crap at TradeMe, these links may help give an idea of the selling price for the bundled items. Red flag means item was sold. Not all of these are the same product, sometimes you may need to check listing details to see. As I said above, I expect prices will fall over next few weeks as there is a glut of them from this deal. The watch is the big uncertainty because they're not out there yet.

    • UE Boom 3 (didn't search for 3 because Trademe's expired listing search has always been crap)

As also mentioned above, fairly sure you'll only be saving $360 not $400. No matter if you cancel within 10 minutes of the contract, you still have to pay for 1 month. Although you could use the contract for that month and reduce or eliminate whatever you pay for your standard mobile plan. (But remember most carryovers expire if you don't keep a plan constant.)

    • Not too sure about having to be billed the first month as I've already signed up for them and they activate your sim card instantly. It says my bill cycle starts on the 17th. That means I have around 6 days to cancel before I even get the $40 plan billed.

      • Hmm in that case I think you're partially right. It won't be $40 but you'll still be charged a pro-rated fee for 6 days i.e. ~$8 https://www.2degreesmobile.co.nz/termsofuse/mobile/pay-month… (See 16 d and 14 b)

Anyway I now understand why people were cancelling so fast. I thought it better to wait at least received the phone before cancelling (assuming it's less than 30 days) to avoid possible problems. But people wanted to get in there before the billing date.

    • In terms of UE Boom 3 vs JBL Everest 710, it looks to me like you may be able to sell the 710 for more ($170-$180 vs $140-$150) if you get lucky. But it's quite risky especially since I expect far more people are going for Noel Leeming than for PB Tech and people have already come down to $121 for the headphones.

    • JBL 710's

      https://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/SearchResults.aspx?from=adv…

Also no you only pay for the days you are still on contract not the whole month, cancelled mine same day paid nothing extra for the plan.

      • Hmm so you weren't even charged a pro-rated fee from when you activated until the first billing date? This is what the 2degrees T&C seems to suggest should happen (16 d and 14 b) but maybe it's bit weird for the pro-rated fee.

BTW your search misses some results as some people put 710GA etc. This wildcard works better although I've found wild cards can be fairly weird with expired listings:
        https://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/SearchResults.aspx?cid=0&se…

The result without model number doesn't find that many extraneous results although admittedly the primary reason I use such searches i.e. that some people don't specify in the title what the model is, is not so relevant when you're looking to sell and not buy.

        • Depends, if he signed up on the 10th, and billing cycle is on the 11th, he'll only have to pay for one day's worth.

If i sign up today 11th, and billing cycle is 10th, then I'll have to pay pretty much one month's worth

          • @bigbosssnake: I was told you get billed pro-rata up to the date you cancel. The billing cycle is only when you receive the bill. So if you cancel after 1 day you will get billed by 1 day and will receive that bill on the 10th (or whenever you billing cycle is).

I haven't received my bill yet so we will see I guess…

            • @looseleaf: Not from my experience. unfortunately they will charge you for the month regardless, once you have passed the billing cycle, you're paying for that month's expense before they terminate your account.

              • @bigbosssnake: Hmm… I changed from the plan to prepaid and the 2Degrees person said I would only be charged for the day. Maybe it is different if you cancel outright?

I guess we will see what my bill says.

                • @looseleaf: They will only charge what's left in the billing cycle* - hope this clears things up! If you're charged for the day then your billing cycle would have been the following day

        • Nope weirdly i dunno how but actually save 4cents lol

    • As an example of how weird Trademe can be with expired listings especially when you have a lot of results these searches find UE Boom listings which should have but don't show up in my earlier search. Some sold for more than $150. (I think the search is limiting the number of results for some unknown reason and so throwing stuff out. Other times they let you see up to 2000 results so no idea why they're only showing 712 here.)

Title sort, same number of listings but seems to be showing different stuff and not just different sorting

Ultimate boom price sort, some of these won't show up because of no UE Boom, but some of them do have UE Boom in the title but still didn't show up

      Limited to the speaker category

  • I just phoned 2degrees sales, as I'm in a position where I'm already a 2degrees customer on the $30 open plan. because I would need to upgrade to the $40 plan to get the $400 discount, I wanted to know if I could downgrade back to the $30 plan without losing $400 discount. They said I would need to stay on the $40 plan for at least 6 months when paying off phone otherwise would be charged full cost of phone if cancelled, as I would be getting best of both worlds.

I was also worried about losing my current carry over data and minutes, but they said moving between plans I wouldn't lose them.

Seems other people have had different experiences about cancelling, maybe it depends on sales rep, or maybe because I'm a current customer wanting to change plans instead of cancelling.

    • I'm in the same position as you. Currently 2degrees customer on $30 plan. Was planning to go to pbtech just before i read your post.

Couldn't we just sign up for the new plan anyway with a new number? for instance it could be a work number for all they care?

      • +1

This is what I would recommend. There's been confirmation from multiple sources that you can cancel immediately, and I've done it myself.

      • I'm thinking the the call centre rep could be wrong and just trying to make me not cancel or reduce my plan afterwards, as it seems some people have had different experiences with reps about cancelling and retaining the discount. But I'm not sure it is a risk I want to take for the sake of potentially losing $400.

About your point, yeah I hadn't thought of that trying to have a new number, but I'm guessing 2degrees would link it to your current account as all details would be the same except phone number, and of that would have the same implications or not.

Maybe starting an account under a name of a partner or family member, but again part of me is worried about if even as a 'new' customer they may rescind the $400 discount after cancelling straight away when eventually sending the final handset bill.

The other option for us is to consider we are only paying $10 a month more than we are already for a plan, so if we cancel after a few months it is still a good deal.

        • Yeah, as i was reading your post, your last sentence occurred to me. Worst comes to worst is that we just pay an extra $10 a month for 6 months which isn't too bad.

Yeah not sure whether having two numbers under same name would have implications, I'll give them a ring while i walk to pbtech.

Either way, seems like a very good deal, and im going to get it lol

          • @genesis133: Lol, let me know what they say to you, would be interesting to hear your experience with them.

            • @Hamster: Just finished everything in store now. They let me set up a new number, I just said I’ll be using it as a work phone. The guy even sold me a spigen phone case for 40% off so I grabbed that too lol

The pbtech sales rep said I had to stay on for 3 months before cancelling, Everyone seems to be saying something different. I’m going to try cancel once I pick up the phone

              • @genesis133: Based on unboxing videos the phones actually come with a case in the box.

                • @looseleaf: Oh really damn, sounds like i got scammed then haha XD

Not too fussed though, the spigen cases are decent, and rarely are they 40% off at pbtech.

    • When i called in to cancel the rep asked if i wanted to downgrade to the $30 plan, I advised that with prepay i get the almost the same deal for $10 less, she agreed and let me cancel.

But yea i got offered to downgrade to stay on the plan. this was on 02/04

      • Interesting, so you preordered earlier this month? Have you received the final bill for the P30 handset which includes the $400 discount? If not yet, how certain are you they won't try and sting you with full cost without discount?

        • The Total MRO is the amount you have to pay if you leave the contract which is stated in the terms of the contract.
The Total MRO price on the contract already has $400 deducted.

  • UPDATE: I just got my bill from 2D the amount to pay is $669.96 which is weird because my deposit was $29 making the total $698.96 so including 1 day of the plan actually turns out to be 4c extra saving…

    • Huntakillaz got the same thing. Weird but guess it's something to do with how they calculate

    • When did you cancel? I'm still waiting on the final bill.

      • I signed up and cancelled the same day last Sunday.

        • Will cancelling the open plan affect your credit history?

          • @Encounter Ekambaram: Probably in a complicated way. Having a plan and paying it on time (if you do) I think is likely to be a positive for your credit history. But having the small loan for the phone is probably a negative as long as you have it.

  • got one from Noel Leeming today - $1099 for P30 pro, headphones, watch - awesome… to confirm people are calling up 2degrees and cancelling same day/a few days later? even before recieving the phone?

    • 1099 for P30 pro and bundle is just insane if this open term hack does really indeed work. has anyone got the final bill from 2degree to confirm this??

      • For P30 yes, see above. No reason for P30 Pro to be different.

  • Just got back from Noel Leeming and signed up to get the P30. He said to come back tommorrow morning to pick up as they already received stock today.

They had display models and p30 pro was tempting, but still $400 more. Hopefully once I sell the extras the phone only cost me about $400.

    • How did you ending up buying it? did you change the plan on your existing number? or bought a new number?

      • I upgraded my plan on existing number. I did ring 2degrees again before going and spoke to someone who clarified I would still retain $400 discount if downgraded just paying total, and others here have confirmed the same. I also recorded the conversation with 2degrees just in case lol.

What did you end up buying, the p30 or pro?

        • Ahh I see nice nice lol

I just got the p30. Planning to pick up this morning and the ringing later today to cancel XD

  • Signed up at Noel Leemings today also. The sales rep said 3 months on the plan was required be eligible for the headphones.
Not sure if it's correct or not, but either way I guess you can quit as soon as you get the headphones from NL.

    • +1

He is BS-ing you or he is ignorant. The Headphones have nothing to do with signing up for a plan, as they are a pre-order bonus from Noel Leeming not 2degrees. As anyone who buys outright from Noel Leeming with no plan get the headphones, nothing to do with phone carrier.

  • Went to PB Tech Chch today at 5.20pm and someone just in front of me got the last P30 they had in stock. I was offered P30 Pro but not worth the extra cost.

    • +1

That's weird because this is supposed to be a pre-order so there shouldn't be a stock limit AFAIK. You may just have to wait longer. I managed to get the P30 from PB Tech Henderson although they were out of stock of the 20000mAh and so offered 2 10000mAh. Maybe I could have gotten a 20000mAh because she was making sure I was okay (asked twice). So not sure what she would have done if I said no. But I decided wasn't sure I definitely wanted a 20000mAh and can probably sell one of the 10000mAh so just accepted 2x10000 mAh. This was at about 5:25pm but because of the contract we were there until ~5:40pm. (Closed at 5:30pm.) Then when I got out I realised I didn't get my SIM card, fortunately they answered when I knocked on the door.

The person actually told me I needed to be with 2degrees for 4 months, I just said okay. Also mentioned I was the last who'd get the deal. (Although Noel Leeming was open to 8pm and Even other PB Tech's 6pm.)

      • Yea, I was at the store at like 1pm today and they only had 2 colours of the p30 for me to choose even though it was a "Pre-order". Was told that was the only colours that is left in their stock for tomorrow release date.

The sales rep told me had to be on contract for a minimum of 3 months as that was what 2 degrees were telling them previously but said it might have changed now and they were never updated on it. They also told me that 2 degrees weren't very open on telling them when people can cancel out of their contract.

      • They run out of "VIP special Stock" with the added bonuses. If you wanted the phone itself, then all colours are available, my lady told me at the store.

  • Why did I just see this deal now?

  • So I can't get the Pb and NL bonus deals through online only? just saw this and want to know what my options are.

    • You can get the bonus deals but not the contract deal AFAIK.

  • +1

I got my p30 from NL, they don't have stock for headphones because many people buying this today. They also giving headphones for S10.
I am the existing 2d monthly plan user but no phone contract.
I paid 600 upfront to use credit card & collect fly buys. So i only need to pay 99 for the next 12 months. If I am not wrong, you could not able to pay the rest using the credit card(surcharge will occur)

    • Yeah makes a lot of sense to do that if you're definitely going to cancel. Surprisingly the first time I've seen this suggested either here or on GPForums or Geek Zone. Didn't think of it myself either although wouldn't work for me as I purchased/preferred the PB Tech bundle. And their credit card surcharge is worse than 2degree's one. (I don't really do FlyBuys either.)

  • I got told you have to be on plan for 3months at pb tech other wise they will bill you an extra $400. Cant say i was super impressed with phone rather have my lg g7 but with the bunddle and discount a good deal

  • Now that the pre-order period is over there are some very strange offers:

NL is now $300 off on a 2D plan and no watch
JB is still $400 off on a 2D plan and a watch (they may not have updated their website)
Harvey Norman is just the watch

    • I think you should be able to get the watch as it's a Huawei deal and the flyer they gave me with the T&C says it's for purchases until 31st May.

  • For those that ordered at pbtech and claiming the watch,

'receipt number' is the 'customer order number'?

    and

'serial number' is the 'imei' ?

Getting an error 'Provided serial number was not found.' - Anyone else with this issue?

    • How did PB Tech notify you it was ready? Or did you just pick up without notification?

      • They gave me a txt saying it was ready to be picked up.

        • Thanks, probably means mine isn't ready then. Unless PB Tech Henderson is just crap or the person doing my order entered my mobile number wrong. I may still try my luck since store isn't far. People seem to be doing that with Noel Leeming on GeekZone with success. Wonder if the staff there aren't always properly checking your order is ready and so are giving phones intended for other customers ;-)

          • @Nil Einne: I'm PB Henderson as well, thinking about doing the same thing. Will post up here and let you know how I go.

          • +1

@Nil Einne: Got mine, no text. Definitely check.

            • @ABCDEFG: Sadly not for me. May not have helped that the person serving me recognised me from yesterday as the last person to order although she did scan the barcode on my receipt to check. She did say they are possibly getting more tomorrow.

BTW, for anyone still having problems with the watch, according to this post from a PB Tech rep https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=97&topicid=247… some of the serial numbers weren't added to the database so you may have to wait a day or 2.

    • Serial number will be on the box once you get the phone. You cant claim the watch until you get the phone on hand
