    • That's a great deal for Duracell.

        • To be fair

It makes sense that batteries would skew negatively on an (independent) user review site. When they work as intended, it’s not really something people are ecstatic about and motivated to leave a 5 star review online.

Whereas if it leaks or misbehaves, that can be quite scary/concerning/emotional, and you may want an outlet or to share your experience.

          That’s my initial take anyways

            I completely agree with this.

        • My experience and what I've read from multiple sources is that the modern cost cutting manufacturing of Duracell is well below what it used to be. Had a number of items wrecked by leaking Duracell batteries with years before expiry. Company doesn't care. Wouldn't use them if they were free.

          • @2cheap: Same. Won't touch Duracell.

I've had a box of the SCAs AA and AAAs. Fastest I've been through a box of batteries due to them dying too quick or being dead already.

Best basic alkaline batteries I've had are the Varta ones, and believe it or not, Dick Smith batteries from the mid 2000s (had boxes of these which lasted for over a decade in storage). However the latter are obviously not available anymore…
