40% off Plans @ SafeToOpen

Sharing this one because I reckon a few people on here will find it handy — SafeToOpen is doing 40% off for NZ users at the moment.
It's a browser extension (Chrome and a few others) that checks websites in real time as they load — so if you end up on one of those fake bank, NZ Post, or TradeMe look-alike pages, it blocks it before you can type anything in.
The cheapest plan is actually a family one — covers up to 5 users, and each user can have it on up to 5 devices. So realistically that's the whole household sorted, laptops, phones, the lot, off one plan.
Good one to set up for anyone who isn't super confident telling a real site from a fake one — some of these scam pages are identical to the real thing now, even down to the logos.

  • How well.does this work for mobile devices? Will it cover all apps on your system? iOS and android? Or is it purely only a browser extension? As most mobile browsers don't have extension support esp on iOS

  • The webpage for this is clearly vibe coded / Claude made.

Makes me wonder about the extension itself

    • Yeah? Whats the tell?

  • OP is owner, not an employee. But yes AI slop all over the website and plugin screenshots. If it works great, but I do question the security on AI products. Plenty of other dns filtering products out there.

  • Malwarebytes Browser Guard does this for already - no sub required.

  • All their "resources" seem to suggest they have only been around for 2 months.

  • Company was registered in 2014, so they've been around for a while, not that registering a company is proof of anything with regards to the product.

The reviews on Google/Edge stores are over a number of years, the oldest is 2019, didn't bother to check if the reviews on the website match the store ones though. Always a bit sus when all reviews are 5* too.

Their website is dogshit slop, and that's coming from someone who uses AI heavily day to day, it's poor, unpolished, and in need of some serious editing.

I do really like the concept though, might check it out just for that alone, it could come in handy for older relatives who love to click on shit links.

A fascinating list of customers on their previous website: https://web.archive.org/web/20251129105444/https://safetoope…

  • Just a headsup, I think you are doxing yourself on the SafeToOpen Chrome extensions publisher profile page, both your address and mobile are there.

  • "I reckon a few people on here will find it handy" Tend to disagree. This website is for cheapies.
We want cheap / free stuff. It seems there are free options that already do this, and most on here I think would be pretty used to spotting a sus website anyway.
