If you cancel auto-renew or your plan does not auto-renew (for example, due to insufficient funds) or you change plans, the discount will no longer apply. The yearly large plan is better value when it's discounted by 40% since you typically get 15Gb for $16.50/m. But this plan isn't bad if you're fine with 4Gb data. It also has the advantage that you get it for 2 years at that price, so you don't need to play discount roulette every year.

Thanks for your comment - the website is really missing prominence on the details on how long the auto renew price lasts!

  • Hmmmm, might set my kids up on this. Easy enough to set up / manage for 2 others?

The 2 degrees "hack" posted in earlier kogan posts works beautifully and much much cheaper overall.

I recently switched over to 2degrees but had a couple things go wrong. (Works good now though)
I topped up the $34 for my first two week plan but for some reason it said I didn't have enough credit to buy the $34 combo.
min top up is $10 so I decided to put $16 (to use on my next 2 $8 plans) and it worked after that.
I assumed that when my plan was about to run out it would send me a text or email like most providers do but nothing. I also couldn't see any indication of when my plan would finish on the account page on the website.
I forgot about it and only realised after my data stopped working so my $16 credit was gone.🤦‍♂️
I have set up the $8 plan now though so hopefully everything should be OK.
I also set someone else up with the same and I bought the $8 plan on their account before the $34 plan expired but somehow 26cents was taken for data as soon as the new plan was bought so maybe turn data off before switching plans.

      TL;DR
      1. Buy $35 credit to buy your first $34 plan (mine was bugged and said $34 wasn't enough)
      2. Set a reminder for when you need to switch the plan over
      3. turn off data before switching plans

      • What plan is that? The only plan I can see is $35 carry-over, but it comes with only 3GB

        • The plans referred to are prepay not pay monthly
          https://www.2degrees.nz/mobile-plans/prepay

          • @bigcheese: Thanks, so it's a fortnightly combo. I just looked at the monthly ones in both prepay and pay monthly and didn't see any $34. Do you need a combo after the first fortnight for the carry-over data to work?

            • +1

@sunshinenz: Yes, the fortnightly plan initially for $34 and 40GB of data.
Then the $8 monthly carryover combo.
If you need more data you can just change back to a higher carryover plan for a fortnight or month.

This is not something I have done but is what others who have are doing.

For what it's worth I've found that kogan mobile's speed is noticeably faster than the 2degrees hack. After I use up my ~40gbs I'm gonna head back to kogan if the timing aligns.

If you don't mind the monthly admin & a revolving ph#/mnth the Kogan starter pack is $5/15GB/talk&txt/mnth, just be aware to find the hidden button on the account dashboard to turn off subscription as it's basically a honeytrap. Pretty simple once your used to it.
