I know a lot of listed places don't even accept Amex or a surcharge applies so really they should have updated the list so you don't get a surprise when taking out the card.

Last year new world fuel was on the list but the new world I went to didn't accept amex for fuel.

This is something I've come across too with a few things:
Pak n' Save Fuel
McDonaldsMcDonalds of all places should have consistency across their stores, it even shows the AMEX logo on the screen before it asks for payment.

Praying they release a PDF list of the businesses by region. The map is always so ass to use.

Yeah, I tried to use it today, so bad.

The list has a few super market eg. new world metro, should be an easy one to get.

Finally I can try some overpriced Burgerfuel stuff!

Did this work for you?

Do the businesses lose anything from this? Curious if I could ask for a $20 purchase at my local kebab place (on the list) to put my payment through as two $10 charges to get two $5 cashbacks.

Dont know but I did this at Pizza Hut last time. Asked them if I could split pay and they said yes
- 1

I've split paid an order between 6 cards before. Most businesses are fine as long as you go during a time that isn't busy.

Yooooooooo, smart!

I don’t think businesses lose anything from this, since the $5 is covered by Amex. It most likely comes from Amex’s marketing budget aimed at acquiring or retaining customers and merchants.

Oh, I checked the Map but didn't realise there was a separate tab for Online Businesses. I went to a butcher today especially because it was on the map, spent over $10 and made a note of it. Checked my Amex activity to check if the first 2 were credited yet, yip, and 3 extras I wasn't expecting. BookMe and Oamaru Blue Penguins were under Online Businesses (makes sense for BookMe). $25 credit all done, thanks American Express.

Also goes the other way with their list, some listed places don't actually accept amex and some accept it but weren't part of the promotion despite appearing on the list. I found this out with burgerfuel.

dam, that's annoying. American Express might give the credit anyway if asked? Dunedin Burgerfuel was on the last last time and I got the $5 back, but wasn't there this time.

I found out through their chat, but didn't push for the credit

American express did not credit me , when queried, they agent advised it is due to a third party payment processor ( windcave) which shows up as Merchant , They will relay this to their marketing team

Impossible to know what stores actually will give the deal
- 1

Omg… Is this why I haven't got any $5 back since 17th October but my partner got $5 using apple pay.
- 2

Yeah we're also missing a heap. Never had this issue with it before.

I was wondering if this was the case with the hold up. The thing is, even when the transaction description said "WINDCAVE*SUSHI PLATTER CHRISTCHURCH", I got the credit the day after.
This blows that explanation out the water.

Because AMEX support is based out of India and they have no idea what they're talking about. They'll say anything to close the ticket promptly.

Interesting. Last time I called it was the Philippines and they were super helpful fr.

@sim You thankless bastard :) lots can happen in a week after you log the case with them

For those who drink coffee and are wondering how to spend $10 quickly for your remaining credits, topping up online via the mojo app qualifies.
$10 top up, $5 back. Half price coffee.

There’s a lot of places on there I didn’t think would’ve been small businesses - e.g. Streetwise, Bottle-O, Re:Burger, Paper Plus, etc.
Worried I’m missing a filter on there? Otherwise this is a fantastic offer (& thanks for sharing)! Should be easy to get!
