After my Türkiye subscription ended, went into the NZ one at $29.99 but now it's going up to $39.99. Anyone have any other cheaper options or just suck it up for the benefits of no ads haha

To continue delivering great service and features, we’re increasing your price to NZ$39.99/month. We don’t make these decisions lightly, but this update will allow us to continue to improve Premium and support the creators and artists you watch on YouTube.

You will see the change reflected on your October 29, 2025 billing date.

While we hope that you continue to be a member, you can cancel your subscription at any time here. To check the status of your account and billing information, go to your Settings > Purchases and Memberships page.

    Just got the same email. 40 bucks a month is pretty ridiculous. What are people planning to do instead?

        Same here. I'll keep using it until I finally get the 'you're not all in the same location' email. $40/6 is still alright + it keeps my parents/grandparents entertained.

          Yeah, I'm exactly on the same boat, if they weren't using it much then I'd easily cancel but they are so for the sake of playing tech support I'll leave it the way it is hahaha

    Ublock Origin on PC, Android deals with ads, if you are only buying it for that.

      That works well for myself, though for parents a lil bit harder hence why the plan worked well for simplicity. But yeah might just take it on the chin. Same with Disney plus used to be 99 for the year now 220.

      I've swapped to using Safari + AdGuard to watch YouTube on my iPhone as ads were getting ridiculous, one playing every time I pause a video which with a small child is very often.

      Yep Ublock Origin and Sponsorblock are the 2 add-ons for PC and mobile that I can't live without any more, way too many ads.

            @Naimady: Its managed via apple, so uses apple credit. Most streaming services now targeting subscriptions that are paying with bank issued credit not from subscriber country, hence why apple trick still working

              @nevergofullretail: Hi, doing a similar thing but logged into YouTube today to see my membership canceled and when I try to renew it just says, “We couldn't verify your country.” Same issue even with a VPN on. Just wondering if you got a similar message?

                  @nevergofullretail: Yeah I do, I pay with apple credit, topped up with gift cards, iCloud account set up to do payment is in Turkey and my iCloud Plus seem to be doing fine. My youtube premium renews in 10 day, wondering if they give a 10 day notice before cancelling, is yours renewing shortly?

    Ha what a rip! $30 per month to $40 per month is a 33% increase. I never watch YouTube ads, I don't see any ads anywhere in general but especially not for YouTube. I wouldn't use YouTube premium even if it was free because it doesn't have sponserblock. I use YouTube revanced so I get sponserblock integration aswell as no ads at all. I last updated my app almost 3 months ago and it's currently at 1 hour and 58 minutes of segments skipped. Don't even know how you can watch YouTube with all the waste of time intros and like and subscribe stuff. YouTube revanced is too easy, never breaks at all, one of the most reliable.

      I’ve removed youtube app on my phone and use duckduckgo browser, it has a built in YouTube player without ads

          Guessing it means going to youtube.com on the browser instead of using the dedicated YT app.

    I've opened itune/app store account in India and I've been purchasing itune gift cards from Amazon India to recharge it, so I've been paying 195 Rupee monthly which equates about $3.80.

    As matter of fact, I've been paying most of my subscriptions this way, Apple Music, Apple TV+, Runna, iCloud etc.

        You need to use a new email to open up a new itune India account, then buy itune gift card from Amazon India to charge that itune account, so all the purchases you made through that account will use your gift card balance first.

      I do the same thing but via Turkey, however an email went out earlier this month suggesting they're about to start more aggressively policing region restriction so I'm expecting it to come to an end shortly.

      How are you associating that account with your apple device in NZ? my guess is you're family sharing the subscription with your apple device account? Because I wouldn’t want to change my device location to india , if signing in is required?

      What does iTunes account have to do with YouTube premium? it uses Gmail account?

        You apple device can have multiple apple IDs signed in, one at a time, you may download certain apps requiring payments through that account. The rest still go through your local Apple ID.

        You know you can pay Youtube premium through app store.

        It's on the YouTube app you share it with, I have a family subscription in nz on Android and I share with my family on iOS. It's Google family settings, not based on the app store or Google play, that's just where it's charged from

    May be try Indian one with vpn with wise . I have not done this but i do know its lot cheaper in India ( i am from India )
    I have recently set up small form factor computers and connected TVs in my bed rooms and kitchen installed LInux Mint XFCE UI/UX is great for Tvs and use firefox with youtube, youtube music with ublock and adguard home running and i also stream , self hosted jellyfin ( self hosted Media), audibookshelf ( audiobooks), navidrom (music).

    I’ve been stung by the big G. Had accounts over the years in different locations etc. YT Premium ended for me yesterday, won’t resub. Solution here, if you have a decent VPN. Use Macau as your location, no ads. They don’t have them on the service there. Have this setup on my Apple TV. Currently testing, seems to work ok. On my iPhone I’ve switched to brave browser, not perfect but it’s a free solution to background play and offline downloads. I went back to the high seas for everything else a while back when Netflix started cracking down. I’m almost sub free now, just iCloud+ Fitness+ and VPN account. Would love an alt to Fitness+ but it’s definitely worth the price for how I’ve used it over the years.

    i finally got the YT premium going via India prices. Here how i did it.. i got a ipad, created a apple id with india as location. this also helps to download india apps frm app store like JioHotstar etc. in apple id payments, used my dads bank account indian upi and added apple credit, subspcrped to YT preimum using this paymnt on the ipad and work great..no VPN needed…. i am also now paying for icloud+ using this and family share my other apple account in nz to get stores etc at india price. hope this helps..works only if you have someone in india to pay or ur own banking there…

        I believe wise won't work with Indian Apple ID, atleast it flagged mine for YT premium. Other option is to buy apple gift cards from amazon india and add it. If you have access to an indian account it should be fine though.

    just thinking out loud, if you have limited youtube channels subscrptions and sng playlist and easy way to import and export , then you could create a new acount each month use trial of youtube premium, hassle to do it monthly, but free if limited use? thoughts?

    I have just been getting bypass paywall clean set up on my phone these past few hours (turns out it doesn't work on some older articles) and after I did that I decided to take a quick look at YouTube. Once you install unblock origin through Firefox, the YouTube browser environment is very similar to the mobile app. If you then install sponserblock and use the UBO element picker to get rid of the shorts tabs, the website environment is very usable. I think if anyone can't use revanced then this is the next best thing.
