Best Fibre 500 Broadband Deals Lately?

Gidday guys,
I’m currently on a Slingshot fibre broadband plan that’s been $70/month from this deal, but it’s coming to an end soon.

I’m looking to sign up for Fibre 500, and have been checking around Broadband Compare. Here’s what I’ve found so far:

Simply Broadband – $80/month, open term, BYO router
Hotshot – $81.50/month, open term, $32 connection fee
Zeronet – $82/month (after adding $35 connection fee + $15 router delivery), 12-month term
Ashnet – $79/month, 12-month term, BYO router
Bryte – $84.50/month (includes $15 router delivery), 12-month term

Anyone using these or know of a better deal for Fibre 500?
Also, can I reuse my Orbi WiFi 6 modem (from Electric Kiwi) with these providers?

Keen to hear any reviews or experiences with these providers too. And any currently running Fast Connect deals?

Cheers!

  • Just my 2c, I was in the same position earlier this year and talked to Slingshot retention team afterwards. They offered me $82/month for 12-month contract if I stayed (was still 300/100 back then)

Everyone seemed to be on the $80-ish/month for 500/100 fibre so I took the deal.

Otherwise, Sky broadband seemed to be the cheapest, see earlier discussion here:

    • Thank you just checked and it's $85 if I'm not a Sky Customer, is there any Sky's deal running atm?

      • I'm not aware of any, but based on this person, you may be able to get discount. YMMV

  • I've switched over to Contact's $85 no contract plan with the $200 credit. Will leave and reassess after 4 months.

Was on the Slingshot $59.99 plan prior to this but like you my 12 month contract is coming to an end.

    • I checked and it's a bundle deal so I will also have to switch my power to Contact right?

      • You do need electricity with Contact to sign up to broadband, and the credit is applied to your electricity bill. However you don't need to be on the specific electricity 'Broadband Bundle' Plan

I too switched over to Contact's $85 plan last month as they offered $400 credit. No issues so far!

Thanks! I'm currently with Meridian on the 4-hours free plan, which works perfectly for us, especially during winter. So I’m not planning to switch power providers anytime soon. Will have to look at broadband-only options for now.

  • Have moved to simply from electric kiwi with the orbi wifi 6 modem. Didn’t need to change a thing on the modem. Just seamlessly changed over.

    • -1

was it a deal? as per thread

      • It’s cheaper than electric kiwi. OP wanted to know whether the orbi modem would work with the listed providers.

  • Got a call from a Glimp agent today. I only put in dummy info on their site yesterday just to check deals, but somehow they still managed to find my real phone number, which feels very dodgy.

He initially offered $85/month for a 12-month Slingshot plan. I told them I’d found cheaper options, so they dropped it to $80. I mentioned that other providers offer open-term plans and that I might be moving soon, so I’d prefer more flexibility at the same price. Then he came back with an extra $50 welcome credit if I signed up on the spot, which effectively brings the monthly cost to $76 (over 12 months).

On the other hand, Simply Broadband is $80/month with no contract.

Should I go with Glimp's Slingshot offer or stick with Simply’s open-term plan?

  • Take it you a have seen this deal.

It's a digital equity product, so tight eligibly requirements, but if you qualify it is hands down the best deal in the market.

    • Yes I saw this one, too bad my address is under Enable not Chorus!

  • Whatever happened to 6 months half price deals?
Used to average out the costs quite well

    • I think we're in a world now where businesses choose collusion over competition.

    • 2degrees bought Vocus.

    • The market consolidated. Vocus bought up all the disruptors then merged with 2degrees leaving only a handful of providers that are actually different companies.

      • this explains so much

For a limited time, going via Compass to Zeronet gives your 6 months half price. Still got the $35 connection fee though.

      https://compass.net.nz/

      Direct link - https://www.zeronet.co.nz/compass/

      EDIT: added direct link

      • Thanks! Make some calculation it's slightly cheaper than the one from Broadband Compare
        BBC - $78/m + $35 connection fee + $15 router delivery - 12-month term
        Compass - $74.25/m + $35 connection fee + $15 router delivery - 12-month term

      • Do you know if zeronet uses CG-NAT?

        • +1

Yes, zero net uses CG-NAT and they charge $11.99 per month for Static IP.

          • @zajnic: Thanks, enough to avoid for the time being

  • Broadband compare is running a 2deg offer for $80/mo for 12mo which you can stack the $10 Pay Monthly discount to $70/mo if you have a PM mobile.

Aware that many cheapies aren't running with a 2deg PM mobile.

Disclaimer: I didn't have a good experience with 2deg as an ISP, especially troubles with CG-NAT, but in terms of price this is quite good.

    • What is a PM mobile?

      • pay monthly

        • Thank you! Currently with Kogan and doesn't really use much so it wouldn't worth it to pay extra to go with that!

    • Plus -$5/mo if you have supergold

  • Update:
Just signed up with Simply Broadband $80/month (no contract) after a terrible experience with Slingshot’s customer service. No live chat—just an AI bot on FB pretending to be a live agent (literally told me she was human, then kept sending copy-paste replies). Called their number and waited 20 minutes just to talk to someone about cancelling.

To make it worse, she gave me the wrong info—said I’d need to give an extra month’s notice after my 12-month contract ends, basically making it a 13-month commitment. At that point, I gave up on even asking for a retention deal and just switched.

    • They have a 30 notice period. But do rush losing the connection if doing a transfer and the new ISP tries and setup on the same port that is getting canceled.

Mercury 6 month free then $97 per month for 6 month (1 year term) works out cheapest for me. Free router hire. Works out to be $48.50 per month and a one off $14 shipping fee for the router. Coming off of the 12 month slingshot deal. Was a breeze to setup with mercury, I currently have power and gas with them which has been the cheapest in my area for some time so I don't think I'll need to switch in the next 12 months.

I've been on this for the last 7 months. Interestingly, the 7th month was charged at $52.84 (after six months free). Curious to see what the next bill says.

I am looking at changing plans, I came across 360 Net

    https://360net.co.nz/plans/

They have a 2000/2000 plan which after $15 discount is $104.99 per month for 12 months.

Anyone have thoughts? I am currently on $111 with One NZ 900mbps plan.

First off, you will have to get a New ONT if current one doesn't support hyperfibre. Some providers may charge for it. And that means someone has to come and replace it. Not to mention you would need a capable router as well which can utilize that speed.

Secondly, do you really need speed above 900? are you experiencing any issues or is there a need for speed lol? For majority of the people 900mbps plan is more than enough, heck even 500 should be more than enough for a family upto 4. 2Gig plans are more targeted towards businesses or household with 8+. I really don't see any benefits for a normal typically household in NZ to have that kind of speed. You won't see any difference on a 500mb or 2000mb plan on your mobile or laptop if you have a really good solid wifi network.

There are plans around $100 from many providers.

      • Damn I didnt know not all ONT support the 2000. Good point. Yea the 900 is enough, it was just that the price was the same 900 and 2000. So i was like might as well 😅😂 no particular reason.

      • good point.
just wonder, is 360net trustful? (BYO is not a problem)
Also would static IP big benefit for high speed?

And zeronet offers half price for 5 months which turns out little higher. HF2000 with 12m contract:
        zeronet - (67.5 * 5 + 135 * 7) / 12 = 106.875
        360net - 104.99

        (Updated, seems not good: https://www.reddit.com/r/newzealand/comments/1fo9098/are_360…)

In case anyone else is potentially interested, I've been with 360net for just over a year now on the 2000/2000, been mostly trouble free.
I went for it because I already have 2.5G and 10G networking gear.
It's definitely a pretty minimal upgrade over 900/500. Outside of synthetic tests, you're limited by the server (as well as storage and processor) speed - I seem to top out at 1.7Gbps downloading from Steam.

I was going to cancel when my initial $99/12 was up and go back to gig, but they offered me $105 for another 12 months which I took.

Haven't had any issues with the broadband itself, only problem I've had with them has been their billing. They've overcharged me and also not billed me at all on another occasion. Invoicing was pretty bad initially too, but they've definitely tidied a lot of that up in the last couple of months.
Customer service was also pretty good to deal with resolving those things though. They don't have an online portal or anything to look at billing info, it's all emailed currently, but CS told me there is one on the way.

Just signed up to 2degrees 500/100 for $75 and $50 joining credit on a 1 year plan. Telesales team reached out after I had filled my details in Glimp. Additional discount was available of on a Pay Monthly Plan with 2degrees.

  • Just got off a call with One.NZ .
I am already a customer with One.NZ for my mobile and have my own router/mesh network.

Initially they offered $10 off per month on the broadband plans and because they are combining the services, they can lower my mobile plan bill by $10 per month as well.

I then told them about the 2Degrees offer of $150 joining credit, and asked them if they had something similar.
After humming and reading some other doco, the sales person came back with their joining credit offers per below.

I've provided an average per month based on the joining credit. From memory when I did this last time at my old house, the credit is added to the account and then reduces each billable month until no credit left - but effectively it gives you 3 months of not having to pay the broadband bill and then you'll continue to pay full price for the remaining 9 months.

The sales rep also mention no fixed contract term if choosing the $10/month discount, but it seems like that got lost in the email comms they provided.

I will also look to add my partner's mobile plan to my plan as a companion for $35 a month, which gives her full access to my 50GB of mobile data and calls/texts/etc.

    Broadband Plans with Special Benefits:
    - Fibre Everyday – $96/month (Unlimited data)
Option of $200 joining credit or $10/month discount for 12 months
    $96*12 months = $1152 - $200 = $952 / 12 = $79.33 per month average

    • Fibre Max – $106/month (Fastest speeds available)
Option of $300 joining credit or $10/month discount for 12 months
      $111*12 months = $1332 - $300 = $1032 / 12 = $86 per month average

    Exclusive Mobile Bundle Offer:
Since you're already on our Endless Plus plan ($70/month with 50GB at max speed), you'll receive a $10/month discount for 12 months when you add broadband – bringing your mobile to just $60/month.

Hope this can help someone with a better deal.

    Cheers Dave

    • I was was with One NZ Mobile, on their old 15GB Plan for $45, and the wife was on the companion plan $35 for 15GB also.
Then One NZ decided to discountinue the 15GB Plan and want to put me on the 50GB plan for $70.
Didn't want to pay the extra, so decided to move to Kogan Extra Large Plan (32GB/Month), Bought the 2 for one which last 365 days for $490, which works out to be $20.50 Per Month for me and $20.50 for the wife. Kogan use the One NZ network, so no connection/signal difference between the two.

Im still with One NZ on FibreMax for $101 (with $10 discount), $10 discount only for the next 12 months, so interested into jump elsewhere.

  • Just got off the phone with Slingshot retention team.

Was paying $89 for the 900 plan now gone up to $115, 500 gone up to $100.

    Got offered $96 a month for 900 or $85 for the 500.

    • yup i got same thanks

  • Hotshot is $79.90/month, not $81.50. I've used them in the past and recently switched my parents' internet to them. Their support is alright and I haven't had any performance issues with them.
