  • "Offer is not available for customers who hold or have held the respective ASB rewards credit card account in the past 12 months, transfers from an existing ASB credit card, or in combination with any other offers"

Looks like it's for new customers only. Bummer.

    • If your current ASB card isn't a rewards one you can still apply. Just close your existing account first. It's not a transfer then. I did this when I applied for ASB Flex.

  • $40 half yearly fee as well which isnt too bad. - Has anyone been able to get their first year fee waived ? - I was successful with ANZ when they did their promotion for Air points.

True Rewards is better, not only is the earn rate better but you can use them dollar for dollar in any amount in far more places.

But on the other hand you'd need to use it for $120,000 to make up the $300 difference.

Earn rate for Visa Platinum Rewards (which I have):
    $100 = TR$1
    $1 = 1 Everyday Rewards point

    AKA TrueRewards = 1% back
    2000 points = $15 = 0.75% back

    300/0.0025 = $120,000

So if you can use it A LOT, or keep it for the long term, then you're better off with TR, but if you barely use it, or don't intend to keep it long term, then you're better off with this deal.

You can take the bonus everyday reward first then change to true rewards afterwards.

    • Yes, true rewards when you get cash every month does mount up to something you want that is not related to just rewards from Woolworths. And it's not too bad a sting if you pay your tax bill with your credit card.

  • Hi guys, have just signed up to an ASB account for this deal then selecting the platinum credit card. Which option do i need to pick for the most value benefits? Like the $300 quoted is it true rewards or everyday rewards, kinda confusing

  • chur

  • Is there a minimum spend or term? Or could I sign up to get the rewards and cancel it straight away?

    • I didn't find anything talking about this in it.

  • Looks like you could maybe sign up, pay the $40 fee and cancel it before the next $40 fee and still get the $300 countdown credit?

    • this is the idea

      • I've applied today :D

The Business rewards has less fee than Platinum rewards so should I select the business option? Or do they require business register number or something to open this card? Thanks

    • +1

Of course they'd require your business name etc etc.

  • Requires a $30,000 per annum income for either of the cards. Unfortunate for any full-time tertiary students.

    • I think with the platinum cards 8k min limit 30k wouldn't even get you close to being approved too.

  • These Credit Card forms require way too much information…

    • Yeah, they asked for so much stuff. Was finally approved today.

  • Wow. How many people been approved for this? I just been declined, after sending everything including the blood type of my cat. I reckon I was declined because my balance will be paid off each month.

    • What's your rough yearly spend / income? I don't see how paying your card off consistently and on time is grounds for denial.

My partner recently moved from Australia and was declined by Amex the first time around due to their payslips not dating back far enough but was approved on the second application.

    • I was approved with a 6k limit AMEX and 2k limit ANZ free VISA already, both with no balance.

You're right though, they ask for a lot of information!

      • Well I was going to let this go but said hang on a minute I want my application reviewed and to escalate this to the head of the processing team and smack me sideways within an hour got an email back saying it was approved.

        ?????

        • Actually? That's crazy lol
