The terms are a little confusing. Is it still free selling (no success fee) if the buyer doesn’t pay by ping?

But also the sentence ‘all listings will have payment by ping’ - does this mean ping is the only payment method or is it one of the options but enabled by default?

  • "List your general items on Sunday 15 June and get 100% off success fees when they sell!

For general items. All listings will have payment by Ping."

It sounds like it is no fees for general listing for casual sellers, but you will have to have ping as a payment option. I doubt that would limit your listing to take payment from ping only, that sounds too restrictive. If buyer uses Ping then they pay you the amount (less 2.19%).

NB: You could always try to dodge the ping fee, by putting in the listing "please don't pay with ping" or "prefer not to use ping"… However there is still a chance buyer may use ping, then you will pay the fee.

    • Just made some listings and it wouldnt let me select any other payment method than Ping.

      • Ohhh interesting. They are really trying to push ping. That's not good if someone wants to pay on pickup with cash.

      • If you "create a similar listing" you will be able to change the payment options as normal, including unselecting Ping.

  • Yeah you could say price is for NZ bank transfer only or something in the auction.

    • Be easier to increase your price by 2.19%, then not have to worry. I'll be jumping on this wagon and including fees in my prices.

      • iirc it includes shipping costs (or maybe its just afterpay) so factor that in as well when calculating.

        • Yeah I think it does. Most people are too lazy to even give shipping options these days haha. I do though, unless it's expensive then I just state a rough cost in the auction, loop hole that shit.

Have they upped the ping fee? I thought this was 1.95%.

    • it was upped a while back

  • Free 7 Day Job listing(trademe.co.nz) or 30 day Bronze Ad for $49+ today (Wed 11th June only) on Trade Me as well

  • I'd be reaallllll careful listing things with Ping as payment, that are high-value and prone to user-error. There is a dispute process which can be opened against the trade if the buyer deems the goods not as described.

    • Always a goo idea to take photos and videos of the product and how you pack it before you send it off to cover your own ass.

    • That policy(Buyer Protection) is pretty reasonable as a professional seller(essentially in line with CGA) and not much different to how the small claims court might rule, if you lost there you probably did for a reason your choosing not to disclose.

user-error would generally not be covered under buyers-mistake and be an excluded situation.

    • On the flipside, I wold never buy a high-value item WITHOUT using Ping. So there's that……..

  • Just relisted an item that didn't have Ping enabled before. I didn't tick Ping when it prompted me how I wanted to relist the item. It still told me that there was no success fee, and I can't add Ping as an option when I edit the listing, all payment options appear to be locked (if listed today).

This could be a workaround to have the success fee promo without Ping, but we won't know for sure. I'll have to update if I sell an item haha. But yeah try this at your own risk, you could be charged the success fee.

    • It always says there's no fees when you relist it, from my experience anyway

      • I just tried to relist and item on the TM app, and it didnt say no success fee, it seems to only work if you list a new item. I guess 2% is better than 7-8%

    • There could be work arounds, happy to pay 2% rather than risk the biscuit

  • This is kind of hilarious how they're failing to enforce payment methods.

If you create a new listing today, payment method will be Ping ONLY.

If you "create a similiar listing" from that first listing, you can choose whatever payment options you want, including unselecting Ping.

If you renew an old listing today, you can't change the payment options from what they were last (including adding Ping if it wasn't there before). I tried this, and I can change the payment options to whatever, including unselecting Ping.

    • But they don't need to enforce anything? They could just check if the listing had Ping enabled at the time of sale, if yes then no success fee, if no then charge success fee

      • That’s not my interpretation of the necessary conditions of this promotion.

        • Hence why I said could.

I can confirm that the payment method by which a buyer uses doesn't matter, as long as it is listed today. I listed re-listed items and unticked the PING payment option and no success fee is charged.

  • I assume its free selling but Ping must be enabled.
If there's a sale via Ping then 2.19% fee else no fee charged for Bank/Cash

    • All new listings have ping enabled by default today and its the only payment option. They've removed the other options.

With relists you can still choose the payment method and its still no fees if ping isn't used.

      • Really?

I've been using MyProducts and it lets me enable all of them, so been enabling ping and bank deposit as well for new listings

        • Yeah. Theres posts in the trademe community pages about it.

I guess they couldn't work out how to force it in myproducts or couldn't be bothered as most casual sellers dont list that way anyway.
