FYI: 20pc set of the same on Temu for ~$30 so DSE is actually cheaper

  • I've always been a little interested in one of these, but I'm not sure if there is enough torque to loosen a screw with loctite or rust, for example. Or tighten something that you want to get quite snug.

Does anyone have some anecdotal experience to share?

Or tighten something that you want to get quite snug.

This is based on using a friend's electric screwdriver set (one use only) - I found that getting screws in really tight and certainly better than I could do by hand was no problem at all. Couldn't tell you the make or voltage though.

I'm not sure if there is enough torque to loosen a screw with loctite or rust …

Getting a screw out that is rusted (or glued!) in, would be a crap-shoot, since they can be next to impossible to move. I had some that were in so tight last year that even with a socket set, including extension arm, the only thing I could do was break the heads of the screws off (which is not ideal).

This is more for like assemble and stuff, such as PC building, furniture assembly
Getting tough/rusted ones you'd either manually do it or use an actual power drill

I have one of these, love it.
      https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005007736795279.html?spm=a2…
It maxes out at 0.5Nm of torque (1/10 of this DSE one at 5Nm)

I paid $60 for mine, I'm going to join First and buy one of these DSE ones because it's genuinely dirt cheap, the 40 pieces would be $20 shipped.

If you need POWER, you would buy an Impact Driver with 150Nm of torque or more:

Fixing fine electronics (like replacing the battery on a cellphone)? Get the AliExpress one
Working on computers? Get this or the AliExpress one I have
Putting together a bookshelf? Get this one
Putting together a deck with screws? Get an impact driver

Is there a way to get this at the discounted price without the hassle of joining their first membership?

    • +2

Don't think so. Just have to remember to cancel membership before the end of the trial.

I've got this exact screwdriver from Temu and it's actually pretty good.
Usb c charging is very convenient and so far it works as intended–I've used for putting together flatpack furniture and drilling some screws into particle board.

  • Nice one! Thanks for sharing

I bought this the last time it was on sale and have been using it ever since. It’s been fantastic—powerful and reliable when it comes to tightening screws. Even if it stops while in electric mode, you can manually continue tightening with the same tool. The motor locks in securely, which is great. Since moving into my new place, I’ve assembled several pieces of furniture without any issues at all.

  • got one, thanks op

    Does anyone know:

If you have signed up for 'First' once, then cancelled before it renewed, can you sign up for a second (or I guess subsequent) trial for free, using the same DickSmith account, or is the only option to go through the hassle of creating a new account?

Last time I tried with a new email, new credit card still it got it flagged and couldn't get it working.

      • +1

Did that on the same network and device? Same delivery address? Curious how did they detect this.

        • +1

I am not sure how they found out. Same delivery address, different network & device though.

          • @ace310: Delivery name or card name + address most likely. Use a fake name for the delivery address - misspell your real name slightly if you think you'll need it to prove you're the recipient

      • Last time I tried with a new email, new credit card still it got it flagged and couldn't get it working.

So I guess that means that any previous free trial on an existing account would preclude a new free trial?

  • Thanks.. I hope its good for taking apart pc's/pc parts too

Bought one. Had to say my wallet's sprung a leak since I subscribed Wakrak.

    • Did you go with the monthly or yearly subscription package? /s

      • +1

Isn't it daily subscription 😂. After subscribing you never go to sleep. If you snooze you lose haha.

How did you subscribe to Wakrak?

Does the Wakrak subscription have a free trial, and do I need to remember to unsubscribe before it renews?

EXPECTED DISPATCH DATE: 6 JUNE 2025

    That's disappointing but I guess it's cheap.

Scratch that, it's June now, I had it in my head it was May.

    • AHAHAHA xD.
      I feel that

Can someone help me out please. How to I sign up for first membership if I signed up before? I'm using a different device than the one I signed up with and on a different network, different credit card, name, phone number, email address, the only thing that is the same is my physical address.

    • Order it for next door and then call the courier and change it

    • Thanks everyone I'm all sorted now ;)

      • How did you sort it?

  • For some reason I get unlimited First trials with same account

  • Thanks - got one too - is there anything else useful I can do with my first membership before I cancel?

    • +1

If I recall correctly, there were discounts on monitors for First Members not that long ago (can't remember any specifics sorry).

If you look, perhaps there is a way to find deals with big discounts (sorted by percentage) with First?

      Do post any gems :-)

  • Just copped, thanks @Wakrak

  • Ordered one, Thanks Wakrak

  • Good gift idea?

  • Mine arrived today, very good and the case is great. Definitely happy with it. Little bag of screws is an odd inclusion, but I guess you can never go wrong with extra screws.

Just a shame there's been no other good deals before I cancel this First membership.

Weirdly I got a little flyer with it advertising they're giving away prizes to randos for the AU site, and found the AU Kogan First site is significantly better than the NZ one, tonnes of deals which are presented on the main page. Meanwhile little to no benefit on the NZ site.
