  • What's the ~$NZD after Youshop costs and GST/Import fees?

    • not just gst, you'll get stung with the ripoff import admin fees aswel

      • Ha yea, true. Have updated my comment.

      • It's actually very, very, tight as to whether it'd be on one side of the threshold or the other.

Comes down to the cost of shipping, if it's $8 USD it'll be under, but if it's $10+ USD it'll be over.

I'd imagine it'd cost about $20NZD through Youshop, taking it over the threshold, tacking an extra $100 - $110 onto the price.

Total price would be around $500, so it's still not that bad.

        • If you go through Youshop you can usually change the "value" of the parcel so if it was $249.99USD you can state it as being $200USD to bring it under the threshold, this however, may not be considered… something.

Good phone … got one during the Black Friday deals for $199 USD.

    • You're correct, I just checked Camelx3. Plus the fact that the GST threshold very close, as mentioned by Shaw.

  • For those who want to check themselves, see Whats My Duty

Just on base price alone, comes out within $3 of the threshold. Over that and you can add on another $111+ in GST/Duty.

Another unknown is that tariffs are calculated on the currency exchange rate on the day the product enters Customs in NZ. So currency fluctuations between purchase date and entry date can also potentially push over the limit. So best to have a decent margin/buffer to allow for this.

Freight charges also seem to be added in when calculating tariffs.

Customs and NZ Post are usually inundated with work this time of year and have a bit of leeway with parcels (usually family to family) and they may let it through if its just over the de minimis or threshold .. then again, they might not.

  • I got one recently, paid $199 declared $165 in you shop, shipping charge was $22 but it took longer than usual to arrive and it was opened with a sticker saying 'opened by US WAREHOUSE' not sure why though as they never opened any packages before. Any one knows?

    • Well I watch some Border Security and I think they randomly chose your parcel to check.
