    • I wonder why the mini has a higher RRP than the full size ?

      • +1

Pink tax is a real thing, look at womens shaving razors vs mens

      • Full size doesn’t specify what key switches it uses. The small one states it’s MX Blue style.

  • anyone have experience with this brand?

    • Best to check the reviews first for the different products. Keyboard reviews seem okay, but the WiFi extender for example is bad.

Used this but in white was nice but two keys died within a year

We just bought this over the weekend for my daughter as a temporary fix for a broken Chromebook keyboard. So far it is great and an absolute bargain for $19.00

  • From the reviews though, I'm not sure it's even worth $19…

Keyboard looks nice and the lights are very cool. However, the keys are very cheap and plasticky, and you can't type a sentence without a lot of missing letters and even words. Keyboard would be awesome if you had time to carefully press down on every single key, and then spend 1–2 minutes editing typos out of a paragraph. Not worth the money at all, was very disappointed in this keyboard.

    • Where did you get that review from ? Couldnt find it on Mightyape - seems pretty positive for the mini and the normal size on MA. Having said that I don't have one so don't know.

      • Sorry, that review was on the full-size pink one, but I suspect it would also apply to the full-size black one and possibly the small one as well? Caveat emptor…

        • ah yup. Wonder why the full one is almost $50 cheaper in RRP … maybe the mini is better quality ?

@RJA7: Big one doesn’t specify what switches it has, the small one uses MX Blue style.

  • Their in house brand (unknown manufacture), ABS keycaps, unknown blue (clicky) switches, $99 RRP is very much inflated

Although it sounds like a bargain, keep your expectations low. I'd rather buy something solid that would work well for years. Like a keychron.

Yeah like most local retailers, they inflate the RRP. The keyboard does go on sale from time to time. I think I got it for $25 a few months back. Can't complain at that price and definitely not worth the full RRP.

  • Yeah I've never been a fan of the gorilla gaming brand but $19 is pretty decent

  • nice deal but keep in mind they are noisy as blue switches

  • I’m just surprised it hasn’t sold out yet with that many clicks lol

    • It's pink…

This will be a cheap as Ali express keyboard rebranded. As someone that worked there for a while, if you have good Ali express, temu or whatever search skills, you'll find similar cheaper.

    • reverse image search for Taobao is godsend

      • How fast is the delivery from tabao? NZ post delivery?

        • I buy up to 100kg of items at a time usually once monthly or once every 2 months. I use a freight forwarder. Shipping via cargo ship is the cheapest but it takes 3 weeks. My freight forwarder also offers Air freight which is more expensive but arrives in 4-5 days. Even with shipping it still ends up being significantly cheaper than the same items sold here.

          • +1

@saxasianguy: 94kg, 93m3 was about $300 via cargo ship, incl delivery right to house. It's not the cheapest freight forwarder I know of but It's my go to

          • @saxasianguy: Problem is they charge you extra for using overseas credit card.

If you really want to go even cheaper, you'd need to pay using one of the supported bank accounts in China or Taiwan. Alternatively, you can also pay using AliPay (basically the Chinese version of Paypal in a way), but to signup on that is a b1tch. You also need to either add a Chinese bank account to AliPay, or transfer funds to it. If you try to use Wise to transfer funds from your Chinese virtual account to your AliPay, it won't work. You need to verify your AliPay with a Chinese passport in order to use it properly. It seems like they've integrated the equivalent of NZ's RealMe into AliPay, so you can't just use it that easily as an overseas user. I ended up getting a Chinese friend who has AliPay to pay for me instead. Bit of a hassle. You save a good $30~$50 or sometimes more, compared to using your Visa. The prices are much different at checkout.

            • @NovaAlpha: Are you using Global Taobao or Chinese Taobao? Im using Visa on Chinese taobao and prices aren't much more than chinese pricing with chinese bank card…I do recall Global Taobao is priced more than Chinese Taobao by default

              • @saxasianguy: I think global Taobao. What's the Chinese Taobao site? I thought it's just a language change

    • I would be a bit concerned about a really budget keyboard from overseas incase it had a keylogger in it.

      • It's easily detectable with basic programming skills.

      • As if the one from MightyApe is not from overseas.

      • Not sure how that would work? If you don't install any drivers and block automatic apps and driver install on your OS, then it'll just use the basic native Windows driver. Even if there's some sort of chip embedded into the keyboard that logs your keystroke, how is it going to send out the data to a server somewhere? It's only able to interface with Windows via the keyboard driver, it doesn't have capabilities of making TCP/UDP connections from a keyboard driver. Unless I'm missing something here.

Besides, it's a rebranded MightyApe product, it even says on their packaging. There's gotta be some level of trust there.

There are also anti-keylogger apps out there if you're really paranoid.

  • Mine just arrived today. It’s actually 65% style not 60% and the blue switches are decent although noise might not be for everyone. The base is metal and feels solid, keycaps are ABS with some keys having paint chipped off. No weird smell either from a cheap keyboard.

  • They've got pretty good deals on the Logitech G435 Headset as well, white is $89 w/ primate or the other colours are available for $99 without primate -https://www.mightyape.co.nz/product/logitech-g435-lightspeed-wireless-gaming-headset-white/35266818

  • I just received mine today. Probably my 10th mechanical keyboard now. It's just so cheap I couldn't resist. Keys are quite nice to type on, nice blue switch clicky sounds.

They also have drivers here apparently:

To use F1~F1, you need to press FN+1234567890 combination, just like you would with some other keyboards and laptops. But most let you switch the combination in the BIOS or via their app, so that you don't need to press the FN+xyz combination in order to trigger. Can't seem to figure out how to do it on this. I could write an Autohotkey script to convert those keys to FN I guess. PowerToys has a Keyboard Manager feature that lets you remap keys as well, so that could work.

Anyway, keyboard is kinda nice, quite like it. But it's only good for light office work I think. Will just use it for my PS5 if I ever need to use a keyboard.
