Grand Opening Offer: Cost + GST on All Products Including Apple (Exclusions Apply) @ JB Hi-Fi South City (Christchurch)

130

Seems to be a good deal, especially as it includes Apple (yes I know this usually has no margin so might not get much off Apple). But might be better than the Noel Leeming Friends and Family Deal?

There is also a Facebook Event with discussion on this, but I don't seem to be able to link to Facebook events?

I wonder if JB's cost + gst is more legit than noel leemings?

I.e. is their cost essentially made up as well?

    • I imagine they all are to some extent as they exclude rebates they get etc. too

When lower hutt reopened their store i got a 65c2 for $2.5k
      Sony MX4 for ~$280
      Was cost+gst

Having 2 regional managers there helped the haggle/deal process

  • Anyone know what this deal might look like for MacBook Air? Or is it better to go through the education store?

    • I believe Education store would be cheapest.

  • I went to the last one for Botany and it was kinda shit. For that one they had in small text that cost is defined as the cost for single unit and doesn't include any discount JB Hifi receives for bulk purchasing.

    • Any info on Apple discounts?

      • I don't think Apple has a volumetric discounts.

        • I mean JB says the cost + discount also applies to Apple. Keen to understand how much that is / if anything

          • @mycomputer: All retailer’s have a 10% profit margin on Apple products.

  • I visited the wairau park one recently when they did this same deal.

iphone 15 pro was discounted by about $150 and the pro max about $250.

    • Damn that's actually pretty good!

It's really not, way too much money for a phone that's obsolete the next year.

        • Which a majority of people buy lol

          • @mycomputer: Apple sheeple.

            • +3

@KeepYourPantsOn: Shhh, don't tell them that. We need more sheep in the world to keep making bad financial choices, so people that are in the top 1% will keep getting richer.

anyone know what these deals are like with breville appliances..ie coffee grinder..etc

  • Weird that they're doing this days after they have actually opened (they are open now if you didn't know).

    • Probably a good way of getting people to actually come visit the new store

  • I'm intrigued how much a JBL bar 1000 will be. CSCS at Noel Leeming has it consistently at $1220 down from the $1600 rrp so thinking there's a decent mark up on that thing from the cost pricing.

  • The wairau park one had good deals, I got a sodastream which was marked at I think $99 being the cheapest anywhere, spoke to a staff member who said it wasn't reduced further but then knocked another $20 off as an 'ask staff' deal or similar.

    * AirPods Pro 2nd Gen for $350 ($479 usually)
    * Razer Gigantus V2 XXL Mousepad for $45.49 ($64 usually)

  • Be warned, the queue is massive.

Did someone already had a look inside and know if it actually is worth it?

    • I guess it would be an hour queue, 20 mins down for me

    • The queue was about an hour.

The pricing was hit and miss - some discounts were great, others not so much - but they had plenty of staff with price checkers so you didn't have to go far to get a price check.

I got the eufyCam 2C Pro 2K Wireless Home Security System (4 Pack) for $699 (currently $965 at PB Tech) and a $5 Logitech mouse

Other items I was tempted by but didn't get were the PS5 Edge controller ($399 down to about $300) and PS5 covers ($99 down to about $70). Console game discounts were disappointing (eg. Spiderman 2 $109 down to $102)

  • I didn't know JB hi-fi sells steam decks. I'd be fascinated to find out what "cost" value of one of those is as they have the 64Gb in stock at South City considering they aren't sold here to purchase from a wholesaler at cost price.

    • Dang, I would have asked in store if I knew they stocked them

    • ROG ALLY was $1199, $300 off. But I passed it.
