    How do these deals work?

Do you have to be flying duty free, do you have to be in Auckland to collect within that sale timeframe etc?

    • Need to be flying out or flying in I believe

    • Need to order at least 48 hours before you fly as well

Don’t have to collect within sale timeframe - just purchase.
Need to have an international flight in the next 3 months according to the PB Tech website

    • Nz may be different, but when coming back from aus we claimed duty free on a laptop we purchased in aus
we were told that the laptop cannot be bought back unless its declared and gst paid back
so not entirely sure what happens in this case

      • I used to travel a lot, so checked this out. The rule is if you purchase overseas or duty free in NZ (On dept or arrival), then you should pay duty on anything over 700. (there are different rules for alcohol and tobacco).

This means if you buy something under 700, then you don't need to do anything. (Total amount of goods are 700 per person, not object)

Also if you take something out of the country, then you can bring it back in. They may ask you to prove ownership before you took it out. They are really strict on camera equipment for some reason.

So, that's the official view. I have heard that some people who buy overseas will wear or use the item before it comes back, and dont declare it. For example, if you buy a laptop, throw away the box, and scan the receipt and send it home. And dont declare on arrival. Technically this is breaking the law, but I have heard it being done.
