Enjoy the sub 100km towing range and never-ending reliability issues. You wouldn't believe how many of these I see come through the insurance companies with complete drivetrain failure that the dealer can't rectify within the first 25,000km…

Should be able to get more than 100km of towing depending on how aero the trailer is. Aerodynamics and speed make the biggest impact on range when towing with an EV. Towing a very aero trailer in a 50kph zone would allow for a lot longer range than say at 90kph on the open road. Not sure on the reliablity of the LDV's but electric cars often have far less moving parts to fail compared to a combustion engine!

      5 year / 160k warranty (8 year / 160k on battery).

All vehicles have reduced range when towing.

And? Do you understand the inconvenience of having a vehicle at the dealer being repaired all the time? (and even having to swap vehicles because the dealer can't even repair yours!) And that's for the major stuff, what about all the little things that break and then you can't be bothered fixing…
What's the point of having a ute when the range drops to borderline unusable when you load the tray or tow?

Say what you want about reduced range for other vehicles, but I jumped in my Hilux last week and towed a 2 ton load over 600km on a tank…

        • I think maybe you don't understand what most utes are used for. Basically just driving around Auckland, not towing anything.

Sure there are a few outliers like off road or towing, but the vast majority are just light use on sealed roads, not towing…

          • @felixfurtak: I think you must live in a city! Out in the regions they are the lifeblood of industry, and they get worked hard.

        • Depending on the spec, your Hilux should have over 1000km in range, so towing probably cost you 30-40%, which is generally the reduction you would expect in either an ICE or EV vehicle. A Hilux will usually have a 750kg unbraked trailer capacity, I assume yours is braked?

          • @cartheyn: Haha that would be nice but no, my Hilux is generally in the 750-850km per tank range, and yes definitely braked at 2 ton. Most of the current small ICE Ute's have a braked capacity of 3.5 ton compared to 1 or 1.5 ton depending on source for the eT60.

So more like a 25% hit for towing 2 ton, vs the eT60 which is more than 50% at 1 ton, and from what I've heard it drops of a cliff above that.

    • Get a 50% reduction in range according to tests, ie 162km range

A whopping 50% reduction at 1 ton which is nothing for a ute, and isn't the eT60 rated for 1.5ton? I assume the range reduction would scale exponentially so that is why they give a figure for a 1 ton load. Many people need to be able to tow 2-3ton. The Hilux is rated at 3.5ton.

    • Please do tell us how many have failed as I'm sure we would all like to know.

Well they've sold 53 so far this year and I've seen more than a dozen MY 22/23 eT60's kicked back to insurance for irreparable issues. Keep in mind I in no way see all of them, which is why I'm so shocked at how many I have seen and the low mileage of failure. By the way it's the same for the eDeliver vans. I've never seen it before with any other make/model.

I have had very poor experiences with the local MG dealer who is also the LDV dealer. YMMV. The review on this truck from Ecotricity is great tho.

  • Not understand why cant they make 4wd version

    • Because it'd make the range worse than it already is.

    • That's because somebody might actually take it through some mud.

I need to tow and looked at this. Just getting Model Y instead, which can tow 1.5 tons (thats all I need, you may need more). Bit more confidence vs this model that isn't too popular. Also probably easier to resell

    • Model Y does have heaps of space and good tow rating. I'm surprised a few more trades haven't started using them really.

      • I saw two fencing contractors building a wooden fence the other day, both with Tesla's, wood inside the car (ie with the boot open for transport). Was the weirdest thing.
